came back to bike today as a parking warden was just walking away . the lady in the shop nearby said she just saved me getting a ticket as he was going to ticket me for parking in what used to be a bike park

i have been parking here twice a week for the last few months and now its been changed to a car pay and display park - check out the photos for how well the changes have been notified

its the bike park on madras street near the lichfield intersection. I can now park in one of the other nearby bike parks which are normally full since they are not just 1 hour parks. Or my other option is to save myself a walk and park around the corner in the free 60 minute car parks on lichfield street taking up a whole car park

i know what option i will be doing - well done CCC.

I'd write to Mayor Bob and ask him what's going on and make sure you include the pics. That's not clearly marked and it's still got yellow bike park markings around it!
I know if I got a ticket in there,I'd be disputing it.

Those markings are roadmarking notations, they're solely to show the b-type crew what to change it to.

If the motorcycle parking signpost is still up, it's still a motorcycle park, the only way a ticket would be enforcable(enforcible?) is if there were no-parking cones in place when you parked there.

Yeah try Bob, he was once a biker (and still could be??) so should be sympathetic to your request/query letter ;)

Bastards. How about we do that protest they did in Melbourne - all bikers got in the city one day and took all car parks with one bike to show the council what happens when they take their bike parking and pavement parking privilages. It took the council 2 days to change their policy.
I'm up for it.

i dont think i actually got a ticket - do they place them on the bike or mail them? the shopkeeper said she argued with the parking warden for me. anyway there were no cones or anything apart from the spray paint that i didnt even notice until she pointed it out

i did go back and check the sign and that has been changed to pay and display 2hr. the mc sign has gone.....

If the parking wardens follow the instructions of a can of yellow spraypaint then get your own can, tadaa! instant bike parking where ever you want it :devil2:

Rang the council, its not a m/cycle park on their maps and there is no real info, waiting for a call back.

Ok I got a reply it appears the park is moving down the road a bit, outside the new bike shop. I raised the fact that often the parks in the area are full and the number of registered motorcycles has increased in the last 2 years, I was basicly told that if a club was to raise the issue with the council they would look at increasing the number of parks.

As KB is not a club it would be hard for us to raise it but there is the possibility to do so should someone want to.

And currently if you were to receive a ticket on this park write in, until the marks are gone and it is repainted it is still a motorcycle park.

A couple of things came up about the fact a couple of parks are full for the wrong reasons, and I pointed out that perhaps they need to consider the increase in scooters on the road, the consultant I spoke to was not aware that they could be ridden on just a car licence which perhaps skews their figures a bit.

Sure, KB isn't a club. But are they really after a club, or just a group of like-minded riders?

Well one could hope, we would need to seriously need to think things out and have logical proposals, but this is KB :Pokey::argue::dodge:

wow you are onto it JMemonic ... i havent even got round to emailing my complaint yet. i will get onto it tho as the more complaints the better

any idea of the new bike shop? all i can think of is the dirt bike accessory shop which i think is on madras

parked around the corner in the free 1 hour carpark the other day while the crossed out bike park stayed empty...... wonder how long it takes before someone gets fucked off and tries to move my bike so they can park there

what were the wrong reasons they brought up?

what were the wrong reasons they brought up?

The usage of these parks for the parking of shop bikes, the usage by cars.

I mentioned the fact I had seen a scooter in Bedford row several times that was parked sideways across the park thus effectively stopping 2 more bikes from using it and the fact the parking officers did nothing about it.

OAB's idea that we are a group of like minded riders might work, if folks have suggestions, preferably those who live in Christchurch or the surrounding areas and use Christchurch as a destination that we could put forward to the council.

Personally I would like to see a few more parks scattered around the city, and perhaps dedicated parks in council operated facility's, also the addition to the city plan that all shopping mall car parks must reserve at least 2 car parking bays and have them turned into motorcycle parks (and they must be accessible)

I'd take a guess and say that the scooter rider was a part timer and drove a car more often if they're parking like that.

I also noticed the other day that the bike parking that used to be in High St,outside the cafe and almost outside where Galaxy Records used to be has been removed...It has been a while since I've ridden a bike,so it may have been like that for years now?

Yeah that one has been gone for a while now, and the one on Cashel street around the corner.

got my reply from the CCC earlier this week

" Do not worry the M/C stand is only being relocated, it is our preference and also that of most bike owners to have M/C stands close to M/C shops, previously there was a bike shop at this location however it moved some time ago.

A new Bike related shop “Dirt Bike Gear” has opened up one block North of the old stand location on the same side of the street, it was decided to relocate the M/C stand to this location as the furniture shop at the old location could use the additional car park for customers and the Dirt bike shop one block to the North could do with a M/C stand.

The new stand will however be a P60 this is to stop bike shops putting their bikes on the stands for extended periods for promotional reasons.

Sorry for the inconvenience the trouble is it seems to be taking a while for the P&D contractor and the signs an marking contractor to get organised, so at the present time it is neither in nor out so to speak. I have checked this morning and understand the signs are up at the new location but the paint is not yet on the ground. I will chase the contractor along."

Nothing moves fast with the CCC, at least you got a reply as to the 60 minute parks shame if you want to park and go shopping, it will need to be watched closely as I am sure we will notice next summer a larger number of bikes or scooters filling stands quickly.

just complained to the council again. still waiting for the markings 6 weeks later

the 2 times i have gone to use this mc park this week a car has been parked there - i hope they havent been getting fined for this as its still looks like a car park. most of the time the old bike park is empty since its still painted yellow

maybe next month they will get onto it
