A friend and I are going to spend a week riding our enduro bikes (Suzuki DRZ400s) around Coromandel in the near future. We are looking for as much off road riding as possible. We are aware of the ‘Wires’ tracks around Thames but wondered if any of you might know of any other pubic trails or landowners contact details who might let us ride over their land etc.

Also of interest would be the contact details of anyone you think might be able to help us out further.

Many thanks for you your time.

if you have a read of this and it grabs you- Then give me an email and we will see what we can put together!

Tour details: Gold Discovery Tour
Full tour itinerary and what to bring are in the attachment.
We do the one day version of of our popular Gold Discovery tour on the last Saturday of each month. However rides are available at any time for groups of two or more riders. And are easily modified to accommodate riders of all abilities. Quad bikes are welcome but must book early to reserve trailer space. Passengers on Quads receive a $40 discount. We start and finish the 1/2day and 1-3 day Gold Discovery Tours in Waihi at the base of the peninsula.

Have a look at the attachments and read the itinerary. The meals during the day at award winning restaurants and wineries are included in the price. Evening meals, breakfasts and accommodation are available at a selection of venues in each town. I can arrange beds from $25 - $90 per night. Just let me know where your tastes lie. The two providers we prefer are www.bularangi.com in Waihi and www.papaaroha.co.nz just north of Coromandel town - check them out! We have a $50 per night deal with both.

The basic price of the tour is $250 per day /per person. ( The end of the month ride is reduced to$180)
Rental bikes, evening meals breakfasts and accommodation will be extra.
The price for groups of 6 or more people for 2 or 3 days is $180 per day per person. (riders booked for 2 and 3 day tours booked and paid for 30 days ahead will receive a $25 Wheels of Thames accessory voucher to spend on day 1 when we visit their store.)

We start / finish the tour from Waihi but will pick you up and drop you off at any point between Waihi and Coromandel Town.
Depending on Forestry activity, we ride either from Matarangi turnoff into the pine forestry (20 minutes north of Whitianga) and after 4 hours exploring old pioneers tracks and abandoned gold mines around the rhyolitic volcanic cone, Castle Rock, a fabulous lunch awaits at Peppertree Restaurant in Coromandel Town.
Or we start at Coromandel Town and ride Flays Road (a paper road- no licence or rego required) which crosses several farms and runs through the tussock and it-tree along a spectacular highcountry ridge offering coast to coast views. Then drops down into the small village of Colville. We return back the same way for lunch at http://www.coromandeltown.co.nz/peppertree__restaurant.htm in Coromandel Town.
Then its 10 minutes up the road toPapa Aroha, for 3 hours of fishing. You can choose between; Musselbarge Frenzy; Uninhabited Island surfcasting; or Sea Safari. For details: click on the Papa Aroha link below and go to Softbaits with Pete.

The prices are $250 p/p on your own bike or $360 p/p on one of our entry level hire bikes. Or a little more for a high performance Enduro Bike.
