View Full Version : Anyone else have "one of those days" on their bike?

I love my bike. I love riding my bike. But this morning as I rode out of the garage (sqeezing between the car and deck wall) the bandit had a touch of the "wobblies". Eerk thinks I. Got to the end of our long drive and something just spooked me and the same thing happened. Had to stop for a few seconds to collect my thoughts. As I took off up the road I kept thinking to myself (don't laugh, I actually did say it out loud) "Get a grip". The rest of the ride to work was fine, and all was good thereafter; but I must say it crossed my mind to just turn around and leave the bike in favour of the car.
Who else has had that weird sensation of things just not feeling right? (My bike has just been serviced so it's highly unlikely my spidey senses are picking up anything wrong with my girl....) :(

I get it a bit. I rode to Napier and back a few weeks ago and the ride was epic, took every back road that I knew and I could do no wrong. Next day hop on to go to work and it all feels rather clunky. Sometimes happens on trips as well, I just start out slow and wait for everything to dial in, takes about 30 minutes dependant on hangover. :niceone:

Go for a ride thinking this doesn't feel right and turned around then parked the bike up.

I felt an unnerving cold feeling the other day....
.... my fly was open.

Oh yeah...definitely get that too!
Admitedly, it's happened way less since I did my track day, or after every long rides.
Sometimes, I guess your brain is just not that keen to deal with it...and yes, I have definitely been telling myself to "get a grip" out loud in my helmet to snap out of it. The ride was never that great though. I'm just glad hubby hasn't installed an intercom thingie, or he'd be confirmed in his belief that I am mad...:p

Heh! Happened to me on Monday... After my awesome nearly 400 k's on Sunday, I hopped on and the bike and I just didn't 'gel'. Went back home and left it for the next day! LOL

Hey, I was going to take the piss, but you're cool to everyone else, so instead I'll be serious (just for a second).
If I get days where I get a bad feeling, or just don't seem at ease with the scoot, I park her up. If I'm tired, heads not in it, I park her up. If I get that horrid feeling of impending shit happening, I park her up.
My logic is always out-voted by my gut feeling - this is what I use when I ride, that's what has saved me countless times on the road. So I listen to my inner voice, the gut feel.
Is that too touchy feelie for KB?

I had a funny feeling one day at work and elected to take the bike home at lunch time and bring the disposable cage (1994 Nissan Bluebird) back to work for the afternoon.
On the way home that evening I got T boned by a Mercedes benz.

Go figure. If I'd been on the bike I'd be just a memory by now

I know what you mean. I sometimes wonder if perhaps bikes can sense that we aren't taking them out for a good ride, and know that we're just commuting to work, so they decide to pack a sad. :)
Seriously though, yes I've had days where it just didn't seem right and my gut feel said "no". The last time I ignored that gut feel, I dropped the bike. :(

Everytime I take the bike and it feels a bit weird, I go straight to check the tyre pressure, and it generally solves the problem, even if I only need to adjust 1 psi.
I have also given up a few rides when I didn't feel right on the bike just to be on the safe side. Might not be an easy option if you commute, I guess.

Exactly!
We all have a built in defence mechanism called our gut instinct...Many people don't trust it, but maybe we should. Animals do, why shouldn't we?
Glad you listened to yours :D

 Thanks for that badmikeboy :msn-wink: I'm ok with the occasional yoo-rine taking, but having said that, it was very sweet of you to be serious. I appreciate it.

sometimes i get on the bike - and it just doesn't work.
it's usually that i'm tired (i have two little kids and they make my sleep very fragmented sometimes) or i'm distracted.
so i go home.
put the bike away, and ride again the next day.
that may sound a bit pussy, but i've been riding for 26 years and have only fallen once on the road - and that was in the domain hitting a white line in the wet.
i'm of the idea that it's a great hint that you are vulnerable that day, and tomorrow will probably be better.
YMMV, but that's what i do.

Yep.. even after 17 years of riding.. I still have the rare odd day where things just don't "gel"! I feel like I am riding like crap.. eg; screw up corners, hit every pothole on the road, miss gear changes, freak out at a tiny patch of gravel, etcetc. Have been known to tell meself, out loud.. "fer ferks sake woman.. sort ya blaady shit out!!" Generally that sort of day would happen if I was very tired.. or distracted bout something else & not really concentrating on what I was supposed to be doing.. RIDING! :spanking:
Most days however.. we puuurrrrrrr together!

somedays it would be better if you just stayed in bed. Nothings going to go right, and getting on the bike isn't the best move.
Still, when you have to keep telling yourself "focus, get a grip" is better than just zoning out ... now what was I meant to be doing?
