Hey Swix,
A group of friends and I have been throwing the idea around for a while now. It would be great to get a charity involved and some sponsorship but I'm not sure how we would start going about it. Anyone have any ideas?

You could PM Zukin. He and his lovely wife did a tour of NZ on 250 trailies last year for the Relay for Life. He might be able to pass on some info.

Good fun- I have never done it on a scooter, but I have done the entire country several times on a Sukuki A50.
Take your time, if its a two stroke put the best oil you can in it, (actually better do that if its a four stroke!), and just remember that motorways and high speed back roads are not good 50km/hr country !
p.s. If you select a charity that I think is worth while, I'll chuck in an FFM scooter helmet for you to raffle or whatever.

...and on a similar note re: charities, I think that the Magnetos Scooter Club might see their way clear to sponsoring you too.

When living in TeAnau,
I met a couple from England who toured NZ on a pair of scooters, they had bought them new in Aucland after arriving in the country,it took them a week to get to TeAnau. They said that apart from the big rigs on the open road, it has been the cheapest holiday they have had, and some of the most fun. They said they took the scooters into offroad places with no problems.
Their origional idea was to buy a pair of push bikes to tour on , but the scooters were cheaper that the bikes.
They were getting the scooters serviced at the local Lawnmower shop.
seemed appropriate to me.
But proves it can be done

I'm fairly certain it has been done quite recently - I remember seeing something in the paper about it, and thought "sod that". Mind you, my friend rode his Penny Farthing throughout NZ, in fact all over the world.... so if he can do it you can do it!
Wishing you best of luck!
