Only if you want it to run properly

If you want it to run poorly and lose lots of power and possibly burn holes in pistons from running too lean then it doesn't really matter

Might as well save up a little longer and get a Mikuni fitted at the same time, or bung a high-flow kit in the stock carb.

popelli is right. it'll run, but you better re-tune it, because it'll run on the lean side of things. Especially the Twincam 96 (07 and later) runs hot already, so running untuned might be a bit risky.
Slip-ons are not as problematic I guess, since the EFI can correct the changes to a good part. Dunno about carbed bikes tho ...

the cv carb is not that bad and can be made to work properly

money spent on a mikuni would be better spent on a mild bolt in cam andrews ev27 or similar, give more power everywhere with no adverse side effects, this would give more bang for your buck than a mikuni carb

As much as I would agree the CV carb is held in a somewhat positive light by a good number of people, I am of the opinion its a smelly piece of poo and should be the first item ditched.

In its standard form shes a choked up mess, and when messed with there is no guarantee you can make her work to the desired efficiency. And yes I know there are people who are happy with what they can get out of it, I prefer not to settle for less so to speak.

Messed around with my last one for months with little cause for joy, Then bolted on a Mikuni and shes a new bike,

So, To me it makes sense to invest in a Mikuni rather then spend money on a high flow kit for the CV (absolute rubbish without one) and then potentially spending more money getting someone top tune it all to the pipes, again with no guarentee the CV will do as good a job as can be done (it simply won't)

Buying one in from the USA is pretty cheap.

Faster warm ups, smoother response, steady idle characteristics, and reduced "coughs" or hesitation compared to any stock set up. Wake up your engine's potential and feel the hidden performance within your Harley. Also a great way to renew any Harley carburetor that has been neglected or incorrectly jetted.

Combined with any exhaust and air cleaner upgrade, modification of your Harley's carburetor is a must to achieving a true Stage 1 upgrade. Unlike race kits which require expensive dyno tuning or installation of odd hybrid parts, the Stage 1 Carb Tuner Kits from CV Performance utilize your carburetor's built-in tuning capabilities.

Cost is $53 USD plus delivery

You will also need to sort out the air-flow.
