She is enterring the mens Dutch champs this weekend ....
New Zealand's world No 1 Katherine Prumm will attempt to write a piece of motocross history when she attempts to become the first woman to qualify and participate in the men's Dutch championship.
Prumm, who has been based in the Netherlands since mid-March to prepare for the five-round world championship this year, will pit herself against Holland's best at the third round of the series at Rhenen on May 1.
The 19-year-old from Pukekohe, who also expected to race a number of world MX2 championship riders at Rhenen, said she had completed tests on her new Yamaha YZ250F run by the Van Beers racing team.
"After tests in Italy and in the sand at Dunkirk in France, I want to sharpen my race speed in preparation for the first round of the women's world championships on May 11 in Bulgaria.
"I have been in Europe for quite a while now and we are just looking for some races to contest before going to Bulgaria.
"I have been doing a lot of training and getting the bike set-up.
"Rhenen will be a big challenge and something I am really looking forward to.
"I am not daunted by the track but obviously the level of competition is going to be very high and there will also be some of the top guys from the world championship in there also.
"To qualify would be an achievement and I will certainly try my best."

For immediate release:
Katherine Prumm confirmed for Flanders trophy in Tongeren-Berg.
Women’s MX cup world champion, Katherine Prumm, has a busy scheduled ahead of her. The Yamaha Van Beers racer has also confirmed her participation in the Flanders trophy to be held on Sunday 4 May in Tongeren, Belgium.
The 19-year-old New Zealander, will also attempt to make history by being the first woman to qualify for a Dutch championship when she takes part in the Jumbo MX2 Dutch championship on 1 May in Rhenen in the Netherlands.
Both these events are seen as good preparation for the opening round of the Women’s FIM world championship which will kick off in Bulgaria in less than two weeks time and Prumm intends to make the most out of racing against some of the best MX2 men racers in the world.
“I'm excited to be racing in Tongeren and hope to learn a lot from racing in the Inters MX2.” commented the Kiwi. “The competition will be some of the toughest I have faced and I am using it as training and for learning. The hard-pack surface will be good preparation for Bulgaria. I have no expectations of where I will finish as I have not competed in the Belgium Championships before. My goal is to learn a lot and be out there giving it my best. If I give 110% then I will be happy and hopefully I can do well against the men."

Have you HHMedias' report?
KATHERINE PRUMM INJURED IN FINAL PRACTICE.
On Tuesday Katherine and replacement Kiwi mechanic, Matt Comisky, went to a local MX track in Belgium for what was scheduled to be her penultimate practice session.
After doing several fast and faultless laps, a jubilant Katherine declared that both rider and bike were all set and ready to do battle on the weekend.
On Wednesday, she continued her training, as per scheduled workout and travelled to Helescine, a hardpack track, for a final workout. The track was reserved for GP riders only.
Katherine elected to do a 20 minute moto and with excellent times and only three laps to go in the final practice moto, hit the tabletop at an acute angle. The front wheel washed out and as she low-sided, the 'inside' right leg landing awkwardly and being forced to take her and the bike's combined force and weight.
She was aware of an audible 'pop' and tearing sensation as a knee structure gave way under the impact. The bike slewed off the table top at its highest point and careened off the track at right angles to it and down the embankment.
Because the knee began to swell immediately and was almost instantly accompanied by pain and a feeling of 'fullness' behind the knee, Katherine knew this was no trifling injury.
Katherine had experienced this audible 'pop' sound and sensation once before but involving the left leg in 2006, whilst she was leading the USA WMA Women's MX Championship. That required a total knee reconstruction and a forced retirement from her USA campaign.
An urgent consultation was arranged with a local orthopaedic specialist well known for his skills by the MX community who confirmed the worst. Total rupture of the right ACL ligament with accompanying joint instability. There is only one treatment and that is surgery.
Katherine has elected to try and ride, depending on the degree to which the swelling and pain subside in the next 48 hours. She is hopeful that the knee will be stable enough to allow for competing the first two rounds which are on consecutive weekends.

Katherine Prumm's world motocross campaign has been thrown into doubt on the eve of the start of this year's five-round championship in Bulgaria. The 19-year-old Yamaha rider from south Auckland, New Zealand, has crashed just three laps from the end of a practice session in Belgium on Wednesday and has seriously injured her right knee.
The two-time Women's World Cup winner landed awkwardly from a jump, her bike landing on her, and she felt a tearing sensation in her right knee as her leg took the brunt of the impact.
Her knee immediately began to swell and she knew the injury was serious.
An inspection by an orthopaedic specialist confirmed she had ruptured her right ACL ligament. She will require surgery, possibly total reconstruction of the knee joint, and the doctor had recommended that she does not ride.
"But she's a head-strong girl," said her father Erich, speaking from Sofia, Bulgaria. "She's determined to line up at the first round. She will see how she copes with the pain over the next 48 hours at take it from there.
"If she does ride, we will make sure she is well braced and strapped because her knee will be very unstable. She will ride practice at the GP and see if she can tolerate it.
"She says she's worked too hard for this to give up now."
Prumm's mother, Helen, agreed the outlook was grim.
"I have heard it might be a wet weekend, so that will be a problem for Katherine too. She's devastated. She has done so much hard training and said she has never felt so good on the bike as right now."
Prumm's build-up to her title defence had been progressing well before the latest set-back.
"I had my best season ever this year and finished 12th overall in the MX2 class (against the men in the New Zealand nationals) and my best race finish was 10th as well as taking my third women's title. My goal for the season in the men's was top 15 and I was really proud to have achieved it," she said.
Just last weekend she raced against some of the best MX2 men on the planet, competing in the Flanders MX Trophy in Tongeren-Berg, Belgium. She finished the day 16th overall as GP rider Wyatt Avis won the MX2 class.
Prumm had managed 15th and 16th in these two international MX2 motos.
Now it seems her world has come crashing down and it remains to be seen if she will be a starter at this weekend's women's season opener.
The five-round 2008 women's championships begin in Bulgaria on Sunday, with rounds to follow in Italy (May 18), France (June 15), Germany (June 29) and the Netherlands (September 7).
Meanwhile, there will be a two-pronged Kiwi assault on the women's title this year with Manawatu motocross rider Nikki Scott looking good for her first tilt at the title.
The 18-year-old Scott, who rides for the Auckland-based West/Red Baron Kawasaki team in New Zealand, has joined the French Bud Racing team for her European campaign.
Scott will be riding a similar Kawasaki bike that Prumm used to win back-to-back titles in 2006 and 2007 after finishing second in 2005.

Just found this report............
“Everything had gone really well recently and I could not have been better prepared for the first Grand Prix,” she said. “I was three laps away from finishing my practice moto when I lost traction on the ramp of a jump which put me at 90 degrees. I came down at strange angle and my right leg was off the pegs and took most of the impact. I felt something go ‘pop’ and I knew pretty much right away what had happened. I could ride back but when I stopped I had some pain and could not straighten the leg.”
“A scan revealed the broken ACL, thankfully it is not as bad as my left knee which I injured in 2006 but at the end of the season I will need a reconstruction,” she added. “Obviously it is not the way I wanted to start the world championship but I will try and do my best at the weekend and see what happens.”
Sounds slightly better than first reports....she’s one tough girl
Let’s keep our fingers crossed that she can win this weekend and ride till the end of the season.

More from HH Media:
Nikki Scott - update from her mother - Colleen
"The track was one they used for the French GP in 1987 - it was at Arbis. The racing went good and bad. It was a major drama to get her a start as they were worried about insurance, even though MNZ had given her a permisson to start at other international events with evidence supporting her insurance cover, but Karim, he is a 'superstar' in France, pulled some strings and convinced them to let her race but she had to race the grade below MX2.
They were still pretty fast, the fastest was in the top 5 lap times of the MX2 class - burglar ! Anyway, she qualified 6th fastest and was looking the best she has on the bike.
Race 1 and she got a good start, was in 7th, moved into 4th on the second lap and was pushing for 3rd when the rider in front of her brake checked and she hit his rear wheel. She dropped the bike and was in last when she restarted. got up to 15th, rode really well. There was about 45 in her class.
Race 2 and they werent to happy about getting whipped by a femme, so they squeezed her at the start, knocking her off. She picked up and rode awesome and got to 12th place, they crowd were going crazy, they absolutey adored her
Race 3 was a disaster, it had become so dusty you couldn't even see them on the track, she got a midpack start and got into the top 10 quickly, but dropped it on lap 3, she got restarted and was pushing hard, (she was only 1 of 2 in this class clearing all the jumps) she launched at the step-up and the rider in front of her braked and changed his line causing Nikki to take drastic action to not hit him, she ended up landing on a fence. She got up no damage done, but it was not worth continuing on, so she pulled off.
So they got to see the good and bad of Nikki's ability, but the French crowd loved watching her race, she was their favourite rider by far, they are very passionate people. After every Moto hoards of people would just come and stand and watch her.
She got this awesome cup for just riding and entertaining the crowd and they would love to have her there anytime.
We are looking forward to Bulgaria, if she can stay on 2 wheels she will do well. Au Revoir Colleen & Nikki"

shes the deaf girl aye? was reading something about her on the DRD site.
'Fiolek got her first bike at age three and has been participating in motocross since age seven, training herself to ride and shift by feeling the bike’s vibrations.'
thats amazing that shes riding at a top level, with that sort of disadvantage.. give you abit of a fright when someone passes you anyway ;)

Any feedback on her knee injury?
No, I've looked at a bunch of places and other than them saying it was a ruptured ACL that needs reconstructive surgery ... nothing
So she probably has got one of those fancy knee braces on with extra strapping and a shit load of pain to deal with.

I heard down the grape vine that Katherine is coming home this week to see her surgeon, before heading to OZ for the next round of their champs and then back to WMX in a month for the next round..... Very tough she is......

I cant beleive she can even ride with a torn ACL. That ligament gets replaced with a ligament from the back of the knee when reconstructed. I've done the fibular i think it is, outside knee ligaments in both my knees competing in mx, and they are self healing (takes a fair while though), and thats painfull enough. Hard to say what she should do, i reckon she should just have the reconstruction, but Katherine knows best. Good luck to her.
I'm really suprised that Nikki is not getting better results, she wasn't really that far behind Katherine in the nationals last year.

yeah, she's got it all ahead of her, no point in risking further damage so early.
it must be at the lower end of the scale for a torn acl to still be riding!

Katherinie Prumm was 2nd overall. Her right knee is causing her much discomfort and she will come home this week. Germans were eagerly awaiting the return of Red Bull KTM's Stephanie Laier (coached by Pit Beirer and Stefan Everts) and she did not disappoint with a strong 1-1. She was 22 seconds ahead of KP in Moto 1 and 17 seconds in Moto 2. Last week's winner Livia Lancelot went 7-3. Nikki Scott went 21-18. Overall on the day KP was 2nd Nikki 21st. Yamaha RACE REPORT 18/05/2008
Prumm makes the podium in Italy
Double FIM Women's World Cup number one Katherine Prumm took her Van Beers Racing YZ250F to second position for her first podium result of the season at Mantova for the Italian Grand Prix and the second round of five in the first ever FIM Women's World Championship.
The 19 year old underwent a scan during the week that confirmed the ACL in her right knee has detached but made the decision to compete in Mantova regardless and aim for her first podium. After taking third position in a wet practice - indeed the whole weekend would be hit by rain, creating a rougher and slower sandy terrain - Prumm launched out of the gate inside the top four of both motos.
The first race saw her trailing winner Stephanie Laier for second place and she enjoyed a brief but entertaining tussle with series leader Livia Lancelot in the second moto until the French rider stalled her machine. Prumm, naturally, still lacks a little confidence and speed in the corners but took another runner-up position to Laier to strengthen her position in the standings.
The points table has narrowed and Prumm lies just two behind Lancelot. Prumm heads back to her home this week and will begin a programme of physical work to build-up the required muscles in her knee to help compensate for the missing ligament. She will not be in Europe again until mid-June to prepare for round three of the series which will take place at the Teutschenthal circuit for the Grand Prix of Germany.
Katherine Prumm, Yamaha Van Beers Racing, 2nd:
"It was good to make the podium this weekend but to be honest I am not so happy with my riding. My confidence had taken a hit in Bulgaria and while things were better this weekend I still did not find the speed I know I am capable of and that I do in practice. I fought with Livia and she did not have the best day so it is positive that I am back in the championship hunt. Despite the knee I want to be here fighting for the championship. I will work the muscles I need to and I hope I can build my confidence to get faster. It is good to see how the championship is progressing. I was surprised when I came over for the first GP and found a lot of the girls are now members of teams and it is great that the manufacturers are supporting us. It was a big change for me to switch to Yamaha but I love the engine of the YZ and every weekend I am learning something new about the bike with the different conditions that we find."

From HH Media:
Women's World Championship:
Saint Jean d'Angely also hosted the 3rd round of the Women's World Championship.
Katherine Prumm was also under pressure with her damaged knee. In the Free Practices she was 3rd and 4th and in the Timed Practice he was 5th.
In Moto 1 she was 3rd behind Germany's Stephanie Laier (Factory KTM) and France's Livia Lancelot (FFM Kawasaki). Laier was 24 seconds quicker than Prumm and Lancelot 10.
There will be an explanation coming because in Moto 2 Katherine was only 3.5 secs behind Laier and 12 in front of American rider Ashley Fiolek (Honda).
That gave Katherine 2nd for the day and (fanfare !!!) a 2 point lead in the Championship from Laier.
I had an unconfirmed report that Nikki Scott had a huge crash in practice on one of the bigger jumps and has broken a wrist and arm.

YAMAHA RACE REPORT 15/06/2008
Prumm championship leader after second podium result
Prumm in St Jean
Yamaha Van Beers' Katherine Prumm obtained the red plate as leader of the inaugural Women's World Championship after taking her second consecutive podium with runner-up position at the Grand Prix of France; round three of five in the 2008 competition.
Double World Cup winner Prumm took her YZ250F to 3rd and 2nd positions in the two motos across the rocky terrain at St Jean d'Angely, watched by 30,000 spectators and now fronts the standings by two points with trips to Germany and Holland remaining.
The 19 year old followed Stephanie Laier and Livia Lancelot in the first outing but battled with her French rival (and the many backmarkers) closely in the second moto to win the tussle for the second step. After injuring her knee before the start of the championship Prumm has steadily amassed points to reach the top of the table. Her French results were gained with the extra hassle of suffering a sprained wrist during practice.
The ladies are back in action in a two weeks time at the Teutschenthal circuit.
Prumm in France
Katherine Prumm, Yamaha Van Beers Racing, 2nd:
"It was good to go home and see my family after the last GP. I had spent two months largely on my own in Europe so I went to New Zealand and had some time there, won both motos in the Australian championship and came back ready for this GP. The extra training I had done paid off here. I have been trying to build up the muscles around my knee to compensate and felt more confident. I did not have the best start to the weekend on Saturday because I over-jumped a section and landed in the corner, pulling some ligaments in my wrist. I was wondering what else could go wrong this season! I got myself together and put it out of my head. I pushed hard during the races and although I made some mistakes that I shouldn't have, it was a good day and I am pleased to be leading the championship."

Yamaha Press Release: (Some new stuff here.)
KATHERINE PRUMM BACK ON TOP.
After Round 2 of the FIM World Womens Championship at Mantova in Italy, Katherine returned immediately to Auckland, to consult with one of New Zealand's most renowned Orthopaedic Surgeons, Barry Tietjens, who saw her within three hours of landing. He had previously operated on her other knee. Now, having the benefit of an MRI scan plus the knowledge that the knee had withstood 2 GP's he still argued that ideally she should undergo immediate surgery.
However, as she had made the decision to campaign irrespective he agreed Katherine should optimise the conditions she was now faced with and embark on an immediate proprioception and quadriceps building exercises. That is avoidance of "open-loop" exercise like running and increased "closed-loop" exercise such as cycling and swimming. (Proprioception is the sense of the orientation/positioning of one's limbs. Without proprioception, we'd need to consciously watch our feet to make sure that we stay upright while walking - AH).
She has decided to put the knee out of mind and focus on the task ahead of her.
Going into Round 3 of the FIM World Womens Championship at St Jeane d'Angely in France, Katherine was in 2nd place by only 2 points behind the French national, Livia Lancelot (Kawasaki Racing).
The 900 klm trip from their Yamaha Van Beers base in The Netherlands (Holland) took 8.5 hours through some of the most beautiful parts of Europe. The town of St Jeane d'Angely is surrounded by a rural landscape and is some 150 klms north of Bordeaux and the Spanish border. It has a population of about 8000.
The hardpack track is called Circuit du Puy de Poursay and is characterised by some big jumps and generally quite rocky. It is the first time the track has been used as a venue in the Women's World Champs but has featured regularly in the Men's World Champs. Last year saw fellow New Zealander Josh Coppins take the win there.
Saturday followed the usual format with two free practices in perfect weather conditions. It was during this free practice at a 25 metre tabletop, that had a particularly short down-ramp, where Katherine over-jumped, causing her to land on the edge on the flat part of the track. She landed with such force that her clutch hand bent backwards under this force and immediately swelled. This was partly because of her ACL knee injury, which prevents her from locking her knees together and allowing the clamped knees to grip the sides of the bike firmly. She, fell and found the rest of the practice difficult to complete.
Katherine saw a sports medicine physician who x-rayed the swollen hand and fortunately found no fracture, but diagnosed ligament sprain. He prescribed elevation, compression, magnet therapy, anti-inflammatory gel and tablets.
This was followed by Qualifying timed practice at 6pm. It also establishes the all important start position for the next day's racing. Katherine had the fastest time and thus pick of first gate for Sunday.
On Sunday, 30 000 spectators watched the racing in less than perfect weather conditions (19C) with overcast skies and the occasional light drizzle. Having applied ice throughout the night and sporting a strapped up wrist, knee strapping and braces, Katherine felt as prepared as she could be given the circumstances.
In Moto 1, despite Katherine having pole position, Lancelot took the holeshot. Katherine made a mistake at the first corner, which cost her dearly. Lancelot crashed soon after allowing Steffi Laier (KTM Racing) to take the lead. Then followed some exciting racing between Lancelot and Katherine with both riders passing each other but being unable to make the passes stick. They caught up with the lappers early and as the track had been heavily watered, it meant single file for much of the circuit. Although the blue flag was used, many of the lappers refused to move out of the single traversable and safer line. In 1 lap Katherine lost about 5 seconds due to these obstructions. Twice Livia and Katherine nearly collided and took each other out.
In the final stages, a frustrated Katherine took a risk, which unfortunately didn't pay off. Mindful that time was running out, she made her move on a particularly messy muddy part of the track and caused her front wheel to wash out with only two laps to go. She recovered quickly but had now lost the opportunity to hold onto 2nd place.
Moto 1:
1st Steffi Laier, Germany, KTM, 26:18.203
2nd Livia Lancelot, France, Kawasaki, 26:28.770
3rd Katherine Prumm, New Zealand, Yamaha, 26:42.672
4th Maria Franke, Germany, Kawasaki, 27:16.290
5th Larissa Papenmeier, Germany, Suzuki 28:07.075
In Moto 2, the hardpack, generally rocky track became more difficult with a light rain causing areas of the track to become quite slippery and difficult to negotiate. This was compounded by the fact that once again track officials had left the water sprinklers on too long, creating pools of mud in some of the poorly drained areas leaving a glassy slippery surface.
The moto began with Katherine getting a good jump but was elbowed wide at the first turn, causing her to exit in 5th place. Getting on the gas, she pushed hard and quickly caught up to Laier. In lap 3, Katherine took a chance by taking the much less traversable and hence hazardous inside rut, which she had used with some success in the previous lap.
This time however, the front wheel slipped out underneath her, causing her to crash and she lost a valuable 12 seconds. This allowed Lancelot, who was carrying a lot of impetus to get past her on the jump. The now charging Katherine managed to get her on one of the downhill's and take command of 2nd place again.
Running into lapped riders allowed Lancelot to get back past Katherine. Katherine managed a great pass soon after and then hurtled after Laier who had established a comfortable lead, having had the pick of lines. In the last two laps Katherine had reeled in 10 seconds and with one lap to go was nearly on her back wheel but ran out of time.
Moto 2:
1st Steffi Laier, Germany, KTM, 25:52.269
2nd Katherine Prumm, New Zealand, Yamaha, 25:55.784
3rd Ashley Fiolek, USA, Honda, 26:07.354
4th Maria Franke, Germany, Kawasaki, 26:13.460
5th Livia Lancelot, France, Kawasaki, 26:44.884
"I had ridden my heart out and there was nothing more I could do" said Katherine.
Lap times reveal that Katherine had the fastest lap time in Moto 2. In both races, Katherine had the fastest lap time in the second half of the timed circuit. The first half had two large tabletops, which she was unable to do as both knee and wrist injury caused severe jarring pain on landing. Her inability to perform these two jumps cost a lot, adding at least one and a half seconds per lap to her times.
GP of France overall:
1st Steffi Laier, Germany, KTM
2nd Katherine Prumm, New Zealand, Yamaha
3rd Livia Lancelot, France, Kawasaki
4th Maria Franke, Germany, Kawasaki
5th Larissa Papenmeier, Germany, Suzuki

Yeah there was some on TVNZ last week. Don't know why people always say it never gets coverage. Didn't watch it though cause I was out riding myself. And once I know the result I don't find the coverage that interesting anyway.

The MX world championship round that i saw televised on TV1 last weekend was the shortest and most pityful attempt at televising world class motocross that i have ever seen. I was fairly gutted with the coverage to say the least.
Fortunately i got to watch Rossi clean up the circuit bikes, so it didn't totally ruin he afternoon.

HH Media report on Nikki Scott:
Nikki Scott is on her way home from France. I have been exchanging emails with her mum Colleen. "Just to confirm, Nikki did have a huge crash (actually 2) in the timed practice, but she has no broken bones although she is pretty banged up. She spent hours in hospital as a precaution because she had taken a hard knock to her head. She has a black eye from it but the good news is her head scans have come back all clear.
She is disappointed because she was feeling good after the first 2 free practices. She was 8th in the Free Practice 1 and 10th in Free Practice 2 - the second without doing a clean lap. She had the same problem as Josh Coppins with her off track excursion and getting the plastic fencing stuck in her back brakes so she only completed 3 laps. She has a sore shoulder and she is going to a specialist this week, will keep you posted with the outcome."
