Placeholders for PDed posts?

Is there any way to put a placeholder or indicator to show that a post has been sent to PD or combined?.
A couple of threads I have been reading thru have suddenly got confusing, with the discussion talking about posts that are no longer in the thread, or the result of combining some similar threads.

I truly dispair for anybody who doesn't know or suspect that what they have posted was pointless drivel.

If you think you've had a post moved, look in the "Find all posts by" facility in your User CP.

That's not what he said. he wasn't talking about his posts. He said he was reading a thread, and a post still in the thread was incomprehensible because, unknown to him, it related to a post that was no longer there.

Post 1 . "I have a BMW"
Post 2. "Well boo sucks german bikes stink I have a ducati " Moved to PD
Post 3 . "We,ll your italian bike is crap.

Result when reading

1. "I have a BMW"
2. "Well, your Italian bike is crap"

Reader : Huh ? BMW isn't Italian. WTF.

The real problem is that when a post is moved or deleted the post numbers are resequenced so there is no apparent gap.

I understand. Moderators do endeavour to exercise sensitivity around context when dealing with "problem" posts. That is one reason why whole threads are occasionally expurgated to PD, because selective "gardening" has become largely impossible.

How about leaving drivel posts in the thread, but hiding them, in much the same way as posts from people on one's ignore list are hidden. So instead of

"This message is hidden because ******** is on your ignore list"

you would see

"This message is hidden because the moderators consider it to be pointless drivel"

Yes, I know, people would click on the "View Post" link, but after a while you don't bother.

The ability of the average online forum user to come up with ever-inventive ways of taking up the precious time of some poor programmer somewhere in changing things to and fro without good reason never ceases to amuse me.

The real solution to the problem is for people to stop posting pointless drivel! The endless band-aiding ideas for trying to limit the damage done by the pointless drivel being posted will never solve the problem perfectly, simply because they are just band-aids.

Unfortunately, truly meaningful and contiguous discussion requires that none of the participents therein be goddamn fucking stupid.

You know, it could actually. Before you connect to the internet you have to answer a series of questions designed just to see how goddam fucking stupid you truly are. But then the internet woulds be a droll place, what with no idiots to mock (because as we all know, mocking idiots while pointless can be quite good fun).

I have a feeling that at leat some of who i consider to be the more annoying aren't actually that stupid in an IQ sort of way. though many probably are...

you'd need EQ as part of the login test.......

[edit:] but really, it is quite easy to tell when something is out of context, and then deduce that is was deleted by either a mod or the poster themself. If you can't manage that then you'd prolly also fail the login test.....
