HELP with my Hornet

Hi all,
Well, i really need some help or ideas from some of you out there who may have heard of this fault before.

I was just riding along, everything was fine, i went to indicate left and for some reason the hazard lights came on, front and back. So i pull over, try to indicate right, left, right left, wiggle the button, check, double check, triple check, quadruple check (you get the idea) that the hazard light switch was off, turned it on and off a few times just to be sure, but i still have the same fault.:crybaby:

So basically i can't indicate cos the hazard lights come on.....wonderful, on my bike that i've had for all of 5 days........

Anyhow, anyone with any suggestions they would be gratefully received.

did you buy the bike new?
if so will be under warranty and can take into a honda dealer.

otherwise sorry, i'm crap with electrics.....

I would be taking the switch block to bits and checking out the wires,moisture may also have played a part,failing that off to the shop i guess.Ive a Falcon Ute that when lights were on if i indicated left than the lights went out altogether..the fix for your bike will be a lot cheaper methinks.<_<

Switch is faulty. If under warrenty dont even put a spanner on it. Take it straight to them.

Ahhhh i had this problem my self , did they flash really fast/slow all of a sudden sometimes ect, as well? This is a load problem I ended up changing my indicators any way and adding a extra eath it fixed its self, Now I got the GSR-r light with led indicators, had to get a whole new flasher unit to slow down how fast it was blinking,

Check your earths ect and let me no. Sorry I can be much more help.

Ill swap you some cool indicators, and my rims for yours ???? hahaha jj

no its not, Unless it got water in there it doesnt sound like the switch.. But by all means if it was purchased from a shop take it back to them or at least call them and ask. They should pay for any parts if you need them.

How about you take it back to the dealer and tell them to fix it. You bought a Honda because its reliable and its not acceptable for this to happen after 2 years.

Note: Hijak's bike is not brand-new, and he bought it in Wellington (then rode it up to Auckland), so the dealer warranty may not be a good solution.

True Check everything but id be checking the basics like a fuse and earths first the work my way to the switch. 1st time it happened to me was the earth. the it was a load prob with the bulbs. Ended up scrapping it all and getting the new headlight with indicators. I never had a prob with the switch, Same thing I think happened to gijoe, and my mates 96 hornet.

The timing of the indicators is fine it's just that they all go at once.

I just got back from work and tried tracing all the electrics from the bars to fuses to the little box under the seat that controls the timing to the indicators and then to the lights themselves.

All the fuses are fine and in order. All of the connections 'seemed' fine. I unpluged them checked and then put them back. All of the sealed boxes appeared to be watertight and free from water.

I'm not sure how to check the earths....

Everything was sweet on the ride up from Welly. I washed the bike the next day which may have given water the chance of working its way into somewhere and today was the first time that i'd ridden it since that wash and i'd done a good 10km before this started happening.

I spoke to Welly Motorcycles and they're cool for me to take the bike to a shop up here to get it looked at and fixed at no cost to me, so i spoke to Colemans and they can fit it in......on Monday.....and i was planning on going to the Tron for the racing this Saturday.

Maybe i'll call Cyclespot and see if they can fit it in...

yeah if you had direct water on it maybe, im just saying from what happend with mine it wasn't the switch.
Good idea take it in to the store and get them to look over the whole bike.

Well yeh. what do you mean by you checked the flasher unit under the seat, how did you check it??

Ooh bugger, feeling your pain, if you still haven't pinpointed the problem, gimme a PM and I'll see what I can do to help (and yep, still need to see to the lights still! :pinch:)

By checked i mean that i unplugged it, looked at it to see if i could see any water leaking or possible entry points for water, plugged it back in and tested.

That's about the extent of my electrical knowledge.......
