Just curious as to what everyone else is up to at Christmas?

I dont have any family to worry about (All of them moved to Aussie) so I dont have to wake up early or anything. Hehe, then I can watch some TV (Is there anything good on a Xmas day??) have my sausage roll and a coke and then go out for a ride to see what the rest of the world is doing.

Its good not having any ties or commitments but sad at the same time. Yep, and time to crank out the smallest violin in the world for me.

Have a safe and merry Christmas all, and to all a Happy New Year!

Racing at Wanganui (well sign-on xmas day, race boxing day). Better than watching the telly. If you're looking for something to do then trundle down to wanganui - there'll be plenty of likeminded souls there.

(er. just noticed you're in blenheim. might be a tad difficult to ride over the straights)

I'm working through. Taking a few days off to go camping this weekend before the rush, then saving my work leave up for a February break, or mebbe skiing next year.

Other than working, will be sitting around, drinking beer, eyeing up the front yard and thinking about a new fence, finishing off Neal Stephenson's The System of the World. Taking the kids to beaches.

Very unexciting.

Rising with the first light on the day of birth of our lord Jesus Christ. Praising our father for the blessed things that the year has brought onto us, praying that all man kind can finally place its misguided intolerances behind it and be capable of turning to our brothers and sisters and embrace them in the love of the holy ghost.

Then get really pissed, insult the family, start a fight with the neighbour and shag my wifes best friend - i love xmas!!

Rising with the first light on the day of birth of our lord Jesus Christ.

Sigh.

Jesus can't possibly have been born on 25 December. Believe it or not, we've even covered *that* on the forum before, so I'll let you do a search for the details.

Parising our father

Is that where you hit him around the head with baguettes and runny cheese before beating his record through rush-hour traffic around a ring road?

shag my wifes best friend

Try having your *wife* shag her best friend.

Covered it already? Wow you guys are deep. For what it's worth - Jesus was apparently born in March according to the Old Testiment. December 25th was the Pagan day for celebrating the end of the year and paying homage to mother earth. The Catholics adopted the day in an attempt to appease the Pagans and several centuries later the rest of the christian religions that were spawned from Catholisism began claiming it was the day Christ was born on.

I know this is a fact cos a bloke down the pub said.

Me? I'm doing the "Grand Tour" of the North Island starting on the 27 December. Welly night at Paul in NZ then up to New Plymouth to see a guy I have not seen in sixteen odd years. Through to Tauramanui and Auckland, meet the wife. A trip up to as far north as pos then back to Tauranga where I want to meet up withand old friend that I have not seen since I was fifteen or sixteen. Scoot down to the National Park, Chataeu and Mt Ruapahu where I worked as a ski bum. Waouru Taihape Taupo and the central North island not necessarily in that order. Back to Tauranga and then off to kauwarau (paper mill) worked on drilling rigs in there and at Wairakei in the mid sixties. In short ladies and gentleman I'm going back to some of my old haunts. Most of the people that I knew in those days are long gone, so if you see a black Guzzi with a white sheepskin saddle Skyryder's about.

Christmas day... Wake up, open presents with siblings and parents (I'm still living at home), bum around most of the day, then go to the annual family gathering for dinner (usually granddad does a roast lamb on a spit).
Quiet, but I'm looking forward to it :)

Yeah not too sure what we should be doing at Christmas for them. Any suggestions? What are the normal Kiwi things to do / eat over christmas?

And what is up with the typing today? Some words start typing backwards and its getting annoying?

well we will be staying home for the first time in 20 years, normally we go to my Mums place, this year the kids all wanted to have time at home with just hte immediate family, which is great, we will eat far too much and just hang out together, if it's fine we'll be swimming, if it's not we'll be watching videos and playing video games, no excuse for having a crap day!

I f__king hate Christmas.

The ONLY redeeming feature is watching the kids have fun with the wrapping paper.

The rest of the family give me the sh_ts. It's just an excuse to compare the biggest winners and losers in the familial circle, and to publicly expose everyone's particular foibles.

Thankfully, I will be spending it with Heather, William, and Jacob, the only people I know who are unequivocally happy to see me every day.

Bah Humbug.

I hope you all get lumps of coal.

Mrs H gets Christmas Day off this year, which is a rare treat. Most years I get to wave her farewell at about 2:00pm as she heads off to the "Jellimeat Factory".

We're doing the family-lunch-at-home thingee, together with some family friends. I get to make my Famous TrifleŽ and over-eat. Woo hoo!

If all goes well, Mrs H and I may get a chance to slope off later in the evening and have a wee fang...

Your more than welcome to stay at my place if your heading past Whangarei and on your way to Kerikeri or Kaitia. With a bit of lucky and planning I could make sure I have no work that day (self-employed), then "Roxanne" and I could show you the back roads up here.
X-mas: Lunch at Older Brother place, followed by "Clan Gathering" for dinner at Parent's place. No escape for me as I live just a 100m away (bugger, I wanted to go to the Cem Circuit MC Race too).
No plans for New Year yet (anything will do as long as it is not more family).

This is the first year I haven't had to rack my brains trying to find a present for my mother,or fit our visit to her around our other plans for the day.The strong whanau of my childhood has faded away, just one auntie left and I might ring some cuzzies at some stage just to let them know I'm still around.A day that is mainly about our family, although the eldest daughter will be going to OZ Xmas eve.We will have to make an appearance at the inlaws at somestage - I will be my usual beligerent grumpy self and pick a fight or make snide remarks to one of my brother in laws, then stomp off to be by myself for a while (which is all I really want) We buy so many presents for the kids that we have to spread out the giving over several days - it's not uncommon to hear me say...ho,ho,ho,merry day after boxing day,and hand out more presents. This is the 4th Xmas in a row we have spent in a different house,we get around....

My god Im not the only one with a completely mental family. I would love to say that everything will run like a well oiled machine as we move from one family function to the next. But it just doesnt happin like that. We have the obvious awkward moments where someone has said something that someone else doesnt know. Then theres the "Oh your leaving already" Followed by the pauses and mumbling of we off to the other partners family. So it ussually works out that I end up eating 2 Chrissy lunches and three dinners. Ussually I have offended one of the family, which I find out on Boxing day, WHEN it is all repeated. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH :brick:
