Hot diggety dog, the time on the "L" plate has flown. Was hoping to have put 10,000 on the clock before the 6R, however is not to be so will have to settle for 9000 and some change.
The day picked itself, as is it is first day I am eligible to sit the restricted, so booked for that day, without looking ahead on the weather forecast and picking a "predicted sunny day".
Is booked for Lower Hutt, so will update this with a report on how things go.

Nice one, I only clocked 6k GT250R L plater. I did the 6R in lower hutt (AA near queensgate). The lady was real nice and everything only took 15 mins. Just make sure all you lights work and you have all the legal bit at pieces on your bike. The test itself was incredibly easy although she did ask me to do a U-turn but didn't seem to care that I put my foot down half way through :P

Just quoting as a kiwi, hehe.I mean AC/DC are aussie(original lineup)and they wrote a song called "Dirty deeds dun with sheep".
A guy at work bought a new GT250 for his license etc,has done a few km,managed to drop it in wet grass verge the day after he picked it up,new paint and stickers all well now,and wicked exhaust he put on,sounds shit hot.
He had last Thursday & Friday off to go ticky touring up north ,not sure if he went though with shit forecast.

Good luck Dingoz, not that youll need it - you should breeze through.
One thing to not e tho and it may have just been my hyosung that was like it, make sure your microswitch that controls the brake lights is clean, mine got a little dirty and would stick at times thus meaning it was going to fail me at test time, pretty sure the guys at TSS just sprayed some silicon or similar at it to clean it out.

Do a little dance.....
YEAH BABY.........:Bye Bye Bye to the Yellow
The 6R Dissected for AA Lower Hutt
1. Allow more time than the recommended 30 minutes to complete the paperwork before hand, as they are usually running late. And murphy's law says that the customer in front of you will be the difficult one, that takes more time than anyone else.....
2. Book your test online, it saves lots of time......
3. Relax about the test. (easier said than done for some people I know, but nothing serious to worry about with the test).
Right so onto the story...
Arrived and did the paperwork. See Point 1.... Tester guy came out, and said Hi, gimme your licence. Handed me a radio with earpiece, and we walked out to where I had parked the bike.. (Bike carpark, just up from AA Lower hutt - no more than 50 metres from the front door).
He checked over the indicators and brakes. Sighted the WOF and REG, and said I'll go get my car and be right with you.
He dissapears and I chuck my gear on, and make sure the earpiece was situated correctly. On the bike and waiting for him. He shows and this voice issues from the radio. Off we go. A circuitous route ensued, through roundabouts, left turns, right turns, controlled and uncontrolled intersections. After about 10 minutes he says LEFT TURN AND PULL OVER.....So me does, into the narrowest f....n street in Lower Hutt I think.....
He pulls in behind and says, give me a minute to do some writing and then I'll get you to do a U-Turn without putting your foot down, and we will head back the otherway.....
I glances right - cars parked on the right hand side. ...shit...I glance over the car I had parked behind...........o darn....cars both sides of the road for the entire length of the road....(sneaky bastard had this planned I tell ya...:)...). See point 3 above.....
Right he booms from the radio. U turn and then turn left at intersection. Start the bike again, cross the fingers and check the mirrors, head checked, indicated, head checked again, and snap, one u turn in just enough space to pull it off - no touchy the ground......
So it's more lefts and more rights until we hit a 70km zone. He says up to 70 please, so I oblige with a small squirt...... Round some corners bit of a straight. ( Cheers to the retard in the blue station wagon completely on my side of the road overtaking on double yellows, forcing me onto the shoulder of the road and into gravel.........:nono:.............Once flicking around and getting outta the gravel and back onto the road. (tester had to follow onto shoulder as well).....He says pull over up ahead, as the test is over......
I was thinking fark it..... Oh farked that up...........
So I dutifully pull over in the layaway area, gets off the bike and takes the gear off. He jumps outta the car, with his clipboard, and says " That was interesting wasn't it"..........:gob:.. I thought, interesting how..?. But decided to play the game, and replied Yeah little bit. He starts madly ticking and writing on his clipboard. And goes hmmmmm... Looks up at me and goes hmmmmmm again.....WTF, I'm thinking..
Then he goes and hands me piece of paper with 6R on it......:done:
Made a couple of observations about lane placement, but otherwise said nothing to fault me on. Says well done and buggers off in his car...
So all done. "L" is now officially removed from the back of the bike.. Kinda looks weird actually, as it's been on there for 6 months, but won't notice come tommorrow.......
The tips for the test.
1. Keep to the speed limit.
2. Make it obvious that you are turning your head when doing checks.
3. Check your mirrors and lane placement constantly.
4. Use your indicators for longer than normal.
5. Relax it's only a ride with someone telling you which streets to turn at.
So now it's onto the course for the full. And the 6F test in 3 months...:)

Good Sh!t, well done. Does anyone know of anyone who has failed the 6R and why?
DingoZ
24th April 2008, 17:37
Yeah the guy in the line in front of me was back for his re test. Having failed it a few weeks back. Not head checking. Incorrect lane position, on a consistent basis, and went over the speed limit and over the margin that they use...
So at least it proves that it does happen on occassion.

Well done, told ya the ewe turns were a piece of piss for aussies.
When I did my test(wheel just invented)the cop took me round the block, practiced the u turn as a mate had to do it,he told me where the cop would take you, which was in country area at a T intersection, did complete circle without foot touching ground.Could go as fast as required.
The good news with being mature is ya don't have a huge wait till full comes along.

Alright! Been waiting for that one to happen - go the 6F. Does still going for long rides count towards the 10,000 still - somehow? Mind you, we don't need a reason ....

Reason, Reason. Since when have we needed a reason. Hell the wind can blow a strange way and thats reason enough.
Someone can whisper bike ride, in the next town and we will go.
Funny enough I didn't even make the 9000km mark. Fell short by a hundred
Not too worry though.
Just gotta make the k's up some other way...... Shit that sounds like a reason to go for a ride......:Pokey:

Did my restricted today, was pretty easy. The guy only gave me 93% though! He said somthing about being too far too the right, the road code said ride in the right hand wheel track though.
Also I missed some of his directions, he was pretty ambigous though saying go right at the next left? what does that mean? he wanted me to go left it seems!
Can you do a course to lower your restricted licence period to only 3 months can you? I've had my learners for about 3-4 years so it would be handy to get my full a bit sooner. Is it very expensive? Does it affect it if you've had a few fines?
DingoZ
25th April 2008, 01:12
Over 25, and do a advanced riding course, from a registered provider, or through LTNZ. Pass that and take the certificate with you. And you can sit the full after 3 months. Don't do the course and it's 6 months on Restricted for over 25's
Course costs will vary depending on the provider. The one I am going on is about $130.00 for the day. Then there is the cost of the test to add on top of that. But entirely worth it to get the Full without having to wait the whole period of time...
And no the defining thing for the period to be shortened is AGE,completion of an advanced course, and the time of 3 months....Fines don't come into the equation

I sat my restricted yesterday as well, after 5 years as a learner..
I donned my L plate for 2 hours yesterday ..gay !
Can someone tell me how long you have to be on your restricted for before sitting your full ?
Can you do a defensive driving course and get it down ?

read the post above yours..
"Gay" as you put it is not having your L-plate on and having to pay $400.00 when you get caught..unless of course you have the money to waste like half the idiotic population that think they can flaunt the laws and get away with it, cause it's only a fine.....:spanking:
"L" plate on the back costs nothing....:Pokey:

Good call, that's why so many people owe $$$in fines.
As an aside you would think that having got to learner stage of the license you would know the requirements to get restricted, then full license eh.
Simple really if you don't know what time frame or can /can't do on the license you have, maybe you don't deserve one.
Common sense really, when I got my bike license I knew the restrictions on pillion, speed, and how long it took to become full, albeit only 12 months in those days, unless a defensive course was done and passed.
