Get in touch with Robert Taylor on this site. He is the Ohlins importer/distributor/technical guru. The Ohlins damper unit for the TLS makes a huge improvement

Theres a Hagon damper or Bitubo which gets rid of the seperate damper altogether,both work well and alot cheaper than an Ohlins although theres always the "nothing is as good as an Ohlins" thing.Best place to get an opinion on all of them is TLZONE.NET

If you had a rider test all three options as you state above and he wasnt allowed to see what was fitted Id lay money on which one he said worked the best. There are very sound reasons why Ohlins dampers are more expensive than the others stated.

I have no doubts on the Ohlins being the best at all and among those worldwide with the same affliction i have for my my old thing the consensus is without doubt the Ohlins is a fantastic bit of kit i do however have my reservations as to whether a fair few sport bike riders would have a clue as to what was suspending there arse and in alot of cases fitting the best or most expensive wont change anything except the way they perceive there riding ability.Both the Hagon and Bitubo achieve much over the at worst 11 year old rotary dumper and for alot less money.Just suggesting other options that do work for a bit less dosh.

I hear what you say but in fact nearly all riders do notice a huge difference when a top shelf piece of suspension kit is fitted and optimised to them. Should know as I have fitted a hell of a lot over the years. If you are spending 2k on a bike a high performance rear shock gives you a much much better bang for buck than a noisy exhaust, for example.

When purchasing dampers its a little like buying cars. You can buy a Hyundai or a BMW, for example. One works okay and is drop dead boring, the other works really well and is drop dead gorgeous. Mediocrity or excellence.

I to hear what your saying and am fucked if i am going to argue with you as i have the upmost respect for your knowledge and expertise on the subject of suspenders and thought i would chuck in the other 2 as an option.Being an old basterd bikes wise in my years i can honestly say the most enjoyable part for me then and now is hanging with the latest and greatest on an old has been on the roads that matter,even with budget suspenders lol.

I'm in 100 % agreement with Dr Robert on this one - if you've got the money, then spend it on some top quality kit

Robert did both ends on my TL back in 98 & the transformation was amazing, bare in mind that mine was a new bike with less than 1500 k on it when I had it done... They were fundamentally flawed from factory...

It sure as hell wouldn't hurt to go through all the swingarm bearings, pivots & linkages to make sure there 100% first, also pay close attention to where the damper body mounts to the frame they had a habit of cracking the top mount - the reason for which escapes me just now...

Talk to the man - he's only a couple of posts up !!!

Best couple of grand I ever spent...

If you live and work in Australia then I suggest you support your local Aussie distributor and his infrastructure that feeds Aussie mouths. I have a gentlemans agreement to not impinge into the Aussie market and vice versa. That precludes dutch auctions and keeps it all orderly with respect to backup and honouring warranty etc. Thats perhaps an old fashioned ethic but an ethic it nonetheless is.
