Hi all

This is traditionally the time of year the "old" calendars get pretty skinny so we're all keen to see what 2008/09 looks like.

My focus has been road racing for the young /novice riders, particularly Streetstock, my notes on the events reflect this.

Please note that many of these meetings are "provisional" which means in many cases the date has not been confirmed by the circuit owners/managers. So it pays to be sure of the dates and details as you get closer to the time, via the respective organizing clubs. And yes it was me who went to Ruapuna last week, unloaded 6 bikes then found the circuit wasn't available....
I should have phoned to check.

There's plenty of variety in these meetings, so I'll briefly describe them to see if they suit your interests.

May 24th
The CAMS AGM is primarily for Classic, but has Streetstock and training from 9.00 to 11.00am, after which the full meeting begins, but still includes Streetstock as a class. It has a "moderns" class also, and will have a race especially for teenagers on Classics, as we did last year. Again, the sponsored prize will be entry to the big Classic Festival at Pukekohe next year. Contact me if you need an entry form. Juniors (under 17) $30.00
May 25th
Regular Southland club event. Contact them for details Usually Classics, Moderns, Streetstock, Clubmans
May 31st
V8 Utes / Bikes. Entries from Motorcycling Canterbury. Go to website. No Streetstock
June 7th
Battle of the Buckets. A full day at the "B" track, only 3 classes: Min RR, Streetstock and Training. Plus a special Bucket endurance race, and the NZ title for the 50cc GP will be run. A very historic and special title so get all those 50cc bikes out. Entry forms from the Bucket Club
June 15th
South Island Cup round 2. The "United Nations" of our clubs with all classes involved. Great fun.
Motorcycling Canterbury members get free entry to the Teretonga meeting. At the same meeting it will be the opening round of the Sportzfotoz Cup. A series for young riders with experience limited to Streetstock only. See the sponsor www.sportzfotoz.co.nz for details.
July 19th
The opening round of Canterbury series. The first 3 are at Levels, then it moves on to Ruapuna going through to about Feb 09 For classes, see notes at the bottom of the calendar.
August 16th
Rnd 2 Sportzfotoz Cup.
August 31st
Paul Nixon passed away about 5 years ago, this meeting is in his memory. A mighty fine man and good mate. At Teretonga
Also "Have a Go" at Ruapuna. A day to help out new riders looking to try our sport.
Sept 20th
Formal training, all abilities / classes
Sept 21st
Final round of the South Island Cup
Sept 27th/28th
The Victoria Club (Wellington) hold a series, this is Rnd 5 and a full 2 days at Manfeild. Last year a group of 10 went up and it was a great weekend. Long races and plenty of them. It's the first weekend of the school holidays so no rush back. You would need the Friday before off though to travel up. Special low entry fee for Juniors, but a bit dearer overall though as they have transponders.
With a bit of planning travel and Ferry costs are manageable. Last year we did it for about $200 per person and bike.
A great experience for Streetstock riders and a MUST for those looking to go North for the nationals competing in 125GP, Pro Twin etc. Details and entries from Vic club website
Oct 26th
Greymouth Street Races
Good classes for Classics, Post classics, and Min Road Race. Streetstock race in F3, but I would recommend this for only the most experienced Streetstock riders. Street circuits in general require a lot of skill, consistency and a very sensible head on the rider....
Nov 8th
Otago Have a Go at Levels. For Otago members only. Pre entry reqd.
Nov 8th
Sportzfotoz Cup final. 3 Circuits, 9 races, it's all over! This series is a must for all the young ones. A big thanks to Paul and Jenni at Sportzfotoz.
Nov 22nd
CAMS meeting. A feature this year will be a trophy race for pre war bikes (pre 1946) This will be a great event.
Nov 28th,29th,30th
A real festival of a weekend. A rally, beach racing, road racing, speedway, street racing, most classes but a focus on historic bikes
See notes for Greymouth re street racing
Jan '09
National Championship.
Dates not confirmed but likely to be the 3 consecutive weekends later in Jan in the south Island, the north later (Feb/Mar)
Streetstock as the support class for the South Island rounds.

um... er... well.... I guess stace, I know I've won races there more times than you've won Aussie and NZ titles.
I would have won there this year also in the first race, but a blown water hose cost me that one, and burnt my leg.
Anyway, Manfeilds for those boring LCRs to fight on. Let's bring on Taupo, we'll see some LCR pilots cry then aye!!:woohoo:
I wonder how many LCR's will be winning races when they are 20 years old?? :dodge:
One thing you forget Stace, is that you don't have Bob on the side to give it the correct 'Hover'......... :2thumbsup
Anyway, enough of the false bravado, and trans-tasman bullshit. So, are you gunna win again this year at Wanganui??:sweatdrop

And this has what to do with race dates?

The up and coming nationals are going to be damn interesting… all this piss taking and my penis is bigger than yours crap talk on KB will lead to some “interesting” battles I reckon.

Personally, I’m getting tired of the LCR debate… everyone has the right to ride and race what they like… as long as its race legal.

Anyway, back on topic: July 19 – King of Levels… hope to see lots of KB’ers there.

(Me too Joni - why can't people just realise that I'm never going to race an LCR - so why do they keep pestering me about one???)Anyway, back on topic: July 19 – King of Levels… hope to see lots of KB’ers there.

Hey Scriv,

Its good to see that you remember that you have won some races, I am sure it would be difficult if we were all racing against you on the same sort of machinery that you are on.
Why is it that you guys are so good in the south but real crap in the north?
The only way that I am at Wangas this year is if you would lend your dinosaur to me - I have no ride for Wangas. I do how ever have a ride for the Nationals and I hope you and Bob come out of retirement so that I can have a go at racing against you guys again.
I know you said last year that the National Series was a big load of crap and that classic racing is where you and Bob should be but it would be awesome for my team as well as the other aussie LCR Teams that are coming over to race against you guys.

Why is it that you guys are so good in the south but real crap in the north?
The twisty S.I. tracks suit us on the shorty. Up north, we just don't have the straight line speed of the LCR's, due to the extra weight we're carrying. Have you not seen the speed at which the LCR's pass us in a straight line?
The only way that I am at Wangas this year is if you would lend your dinosaur to me (dude- I need it in 1 piece for Taupo on the 27th) - I have no ride for Wangas. I do how ever have a ride for the Nationals and I hope you and Bob come out of retirement so that I can have a go at racing against you guys again.

Can't do the Nats this year. Can't afford the time off for 3 weekends down south - bummer!!

LEVELS 19th JULY 2008

Hi Guys - I have been keeping an eye on Canterburys website and the entry forms for Levels came up in the last day or so. Entries by 17th July so get on to it NOW!
There is a mention in the entry form concerning supplimentary regulations but I cant find them.
Entry forms here -
http://www.motorcyclingcanterbury.org.nz/forms.php

I am assuming that supplimentary regulations are the same as for the SI Roadrace cup which means sign in starts at 7.15 and riders briefing at 8.45 - if this is correct or not can anyone confirm please. I have made a call to Geoff Cain of Canterbury to see if this correct but got answerphone.
Also check out the Machine Examination Excluder Sheet to make sure your bike is legal.
See ya at the track!
