Problem With Nolan N102 helmet

For the second time now the plastic plate which covers the visor mechanism in my Nolan N102 helmet has fallen off. On the first occasion I had to buy a new plate - of course I couldn't JUST buy the plate (which was lying in a ditch by the side of the road somewhere!) I had to buy the whole kit with two plates and all the cogs and fittings. Now its happened again and - yep, you guessed it - the plate on the same side has fallen off! :argh:

If I have to buy the whole kit 'n kaboddle again I'll have two left-side plates and a whole bundle of fittings.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Is this a problem with this model of helmet or just with mine.

Grub has had this happen once ... we cought the kit ... but not again .. but time will tell!

mate that would piss me off something wicked.....is it the one with the built-in comms? I was looking at that not sure of proper model Id but I dunno if theyre a problem....

Was the kit you bought to replace the left or the right plate? Cos if you want a left side plate I'll be happy to give you my spare! And of course if you have an unwanted right hand plate ... welllllllll ... :devil2:

Havent had any probs with cover plates on mine or the wifes yet(done 5000kms with them). I did have an initial prob when putting in the coms kit though. Sent it to the distibuters in New Plymouth & they replaced & installed the kit & had it back to napier the next day free of charge-very impressed. I was taking a look at the particular cover you mention though just the other day and was thinking that could be a possible piss me off problem.

No probs with the side plate, though I did lose a front vent cover when I opened it incorrectly. AMPS replaced the cover free of charge "must be a design defect" said Lou.

Mine is the wine coloured helmet and I have lost two left-sided plates. The first was to an accident (that part of the helmet hit the fence post - helmet thrown away) the second was noticed after a road trip. someone else moved my helmet and I think that's when it was dislodged as I'm ultra careful handling it.

So yep, I have a spare wine-coloured right hand side. We didn't have to buy the cogs and all the mechanism though, just the two plates left and right - and they were cheap. If they made you buy anything else you were ripped.

Yup, the N102 is the one with comms available as an extra - awesome, just awesome. We have two bikes and group ride chaatting to each other bike-to-bike using the bluetooth kit. Range is up to 100 metres and crystal clear. We now have our phones linked by bluetooth into the helmets too and clarity is amazing. There is less background white noise when Nasty calls me from her helmet than there is if she calls me from the car, officce or street.

I don't believe panel retention is a "problem" if you treat your lid with care. Nasty hasn't had a panel come off at all.

Where did you buy the replacement plates from? My helmet came from Motorad (then Sawyers) and I bought the replacement kit there for $45. It was called a "pivot kit".

Yeah does piss me off. Without the plate the helmet is much noisier and shoots a jet of cold air right into my earhole! :crybaby:

Don't have the comms fitted to this one.

I also have had this problem. just check the pannels each time you go for a ride, its a design fault.

and for the love of a duck, why do they have THE MOST COMPLEX system for taking off the visor?

I can think of a couple of reasons
- You have a shade visor so you don't need to change visors like other helmets
- With the pinlock anti-fog system, changing visors is likely to dislodge it and make it difficult to keep the fit tight.
- The face-lift system is one of the nicest designs around in the way that it opens out and up, maybe that adds to the complexity but they've decided its worth it?

Yeah dont get me wrong, they are a super nice helmet to wear.

But trying to clean the inside of the visor is a total bitch.
