Ok i do not condone running around the streets violating property.
But look at this guy for wasted talent, took him 30 mins, it's run at 6 x speed, amazing to watch it take shape though.

Some of the stuff these guys produce is absolutely amazing. Its important to draw a line between graffiti art and tagging though.
I particularly like the work of this guy:
93108
93109
I believe he goes by 'Daim'.
And anything with a message is cool:

Daim? more like dahamnnnn, pretty awesome.
But yeah the guy i posted up, the intertwining design he did all going over and under etc, with creativity like like he could go places in the actual art world, and make a truckload of cash i reckon.

If he is an "artist" then why mask your identity? That's nothing more than better than average graffiti, there are a million more of this guy out there, nothing that special to be honest.

Yeah but hes not doing a simple tag either its not just a word, he has put alot of styling to it.
He masks his identity because it is illegal where he is doing it.
You wouldn't post a video of you doing 300kph down the southern motorway then walk infront of the camera with your helmet off would you.
If he got done it could be used as evidence etc otherwise.
You hide your identity when you are doing illegal shit.

Hence he is a tagger (with a bit more style than some), NOT an artist. Tagging is tagging.

Sorry man but that is bullshit - there are legal ways to do Graf Art.
He does it cos it gives him street cred. I have met a few Graf Artists in my time and they are all legit now - they get asked to commission work not deface someones property.
They say that it is completely stupid doing graph on other peoples things, only a moron would do that. Its like giving away your talent. The only people who do that are either a) talentless or b) morons.
The main difference is that the talentless scum that just write their name everywhere get nothing and the good guys who don't deface anything get the big bucks.

I said he had talent, its just misguided, yes with what he is doing now he is nothing but street scum.

Well there's a British Graffiti artist called Banksy and he does some pretty legendary stuff. All has deeper meaning if you knew the location around where he's doing it, but he likes to take the piss out of political control.

Ohhh Reeeaaly, and what do you classify as an artist?
Those guys who do the decent looking graff work in my eyes are graphic designers. Use of text and colour/imagery to express themselves or a message. Just because it does'nt fit into your little idea of art, which is probably pretty coloured tea cosy's and a mountain range on canvas dose'nt mean there not artists!

Funny how it's art on someone else's property.
If they don't have permission it's vandalism.

I can see how tagging would piss people off, but the real graffing isnt really seen across windows and on peoples garage doors now is it.

Exactly: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Art/Paintings/Portrait/auction-148973695.htm
It is art, its just the fact that 90% of it is little shitheads who just scribble unreadable crap (not art) on peoples property. Heres a photo from my last trip to West Auckland. This walls been constantly covered over - at one point it was looking pretty cool - but those afforementioned ruined it.
There is talent out there, and for once I agree with Skidmark (I cant believe Im saying this) its just misguided.

Well, if you cant tell the difference between the graff art that takes talent and the crappy looking scribbles that are plasted everywhere, then no wonder your confused. I think as long as your eyes are able to function then you really should be able to tell the difference.

A scribbley little vandel thinking hes gangster, vs somebody with talent, in regards to the guy in post 1, i do not condone the vandalism, i just think he has artistic creativity that needs guidence, to even come up with the design is very creative, but where hes putting it isn't the best.

Keep ya beret on cupcake, I answered this already, the difference is he has covered his face, he knows its illegal. An artist has permission to display their art on whatever canvas they choose not the other way around.

So on that basis you would have no problem with someone drawing 'art' on the tank of your bike with out your permission with a spray can.

LOL, the only vehicle I recall being graffed is the rental van company that commisioned artists to spray the whole thing, looks fekin awesome too! Oh, and a couple of ok sprays on trains, most are shit tags though.
Cant say Ive ever seen a cage or bike done dude.

The best come back i have seen was a wall that had some bullshit tagging on it. We all know that this nob had written is "Tag" on the wall. But the brilliant part was someone had printed a A4 and taped it up under the tag.
The final result was that "XXXX" (cant remember his useless name) "Loves gay anal sex!" (as written on the A4).
I laughed all the way home after seeing that. Should happen more often.
Sad thing is if Graf Artists got a clue they could earn $200/hr as an airbrush artist.
I like Banksy - and i think he differs from most of them as his stuff is political so it needs to go on streets.
These guys i think are retarded however. (http://www.globalgraphica.com/main/archives/2005_06.html)
Will see if I can track down the nice stuff i found in Melbz

Just to show how much this style of expression can be accepted as "Art".
I reckon it's far more interesting on the street though.

My question was not if you can recall seeing a bike done but how would feel if 'art' was sprayed onto your bike from a spray can without your permission.
But your lack of an answer has answered my question.:2thumbsup
