View Full Version : Someone just stole my bike! (Ellerslie, 19 April)

Maverick
19th April 2008, 15:36
10 mins ago from outside my front door in Ellerslie!
Heard an engine and thought "that sounds like my SV"
Ran outside and it was gone!
I had the keys inside with me, just rang the cops, but I'm not holding my breath.
:angry2::angry2::angry2::angry2::angry2::angry2:

EDIT:
MVRIK, 2003 Silver SV1000S
Has Stainless Yoshi twin pipes and Oxford heated grips.
The control box for the heated grips came off a while back and is stuck to the dash with a mountain of silver Duct Tape.
Has a worn out bridgestone BT021 on the front and a reasonably new Metzler M3 on the back.

Time for increased bike security or a new pad with a garage. You could always move to Invervegas - less bike crime.

Good luck and how the heck will you get around without wheels! Public transport eats poo.

Who knows? I have no idea.
I live in a pretty secluded culdesac driveway and it was parked hidden beside my sister hatchback, so i reckon it was cased out beforehand. Even if they had followed me, they would have to have been right up my arse to have seen where I went.

Sounded like it was giving it balls, i'm pretty certain it was inline 4, have sent out a txt to all my mates out these ways to keep eyes peeled.

V-twin with twin yoshis on a thou is a pretty distinctive noise.

I think you had a lovely bike mate. It was noticed. The whole thing will have been sussed out by these cunce, and they knew when to strike.
My parents were burgled by a local lad many years ago, he watched Mom and I walk up the road on Friday evening, came in a window and stole money from where my parents hid it. Hint here, never hide money in your bedroom at night with the lights on and no curtains closed and then go for a walk up the road at dusk and leave a window open...LOL.

It will be someone local you can be sure, seen your bike, thought $$$$ to feed his habit, doubt it was a theft for funds to feed children good, healthy food somehow.

Are the cops showing any interest in this?

That is pretty flipping scary that it was taken in such a small window of time.

There has been FAR TOO MANY bikes stolen lately. SOMETHING is going on.

Someone mentioned (think it may have been skidmark) that they may have a container sitting around and ride them straight inside, close the door and send the container off overseas full of bikes. Would certainly explain why we have not seen the bike or parts for sale of our stolen bikes.

Gutted for ya mate. My K6 has an immobiliser to discourage these theiving SCUM from oppurtunist theft. Next bike ya get, or if ya get the SV back I suggest ya get an immobiliser fitted. No way can the engine run without the right key. All they can do is push it IF they get past the locks and chains!

Takes about 10 seconds..."tools" required can be bought cheaply at any local Super Cheap.

On the really old uns if you pulled the plug from the ignition wire bundle apart and switched off the lights, you could kick start them and they would run.

On modern bikes I doubt that that would work.

Edit: Just deleted how the arseholes do this ...

At the risk of sounding sentimental, (or Semi-mental)
Its not just the theft of the "bike" thats so upsetting.
Sure you could say its just a machine, but to me it was much more.
It was my freedom, my stress release from work every day on the way home, every time I hit that starter button it was music to my ears, and I thought "Man, I am so lucky to own this bike".
It was a part of my life, and indeed it became a part of me, the loss of which hurts far more then the theft of a mere machine, some compilation of metal, electrics and rubber.
I love being a biker, even when it rains, even when its raining so bad that your cordura doesnt keep the water out!
But now I'm bikeless, so what does that make me?

The fact that Maverick has the same type of bike as me is a coincidence.
His misfortune just shows me that scumbags can take a bike that has its steering locked etc in the time that it might take for you to walk inside your house and back.
I used to put a switch on the fuel pump of my rx's, twice i had it stolen and they bailed out of it about 2 3 hundred metres up the road when it ran out of fuel.

a large amount of bike thieves simply lift the stolen bike into a van.
your immobiliser has limited benefit in this scenario.

Hey Maverick I just watched your youtube video. A beautiful bit of movie making and also a very useful way of knowing what your bike looks like. Have you changed anything since you made that? Did it still have the same screen, indicators, rear setup, etc?

My partner has a silver SV1000S so I tend to be pretty tuned in to the details of any I see around the place. I also told him your story so that's two sets of eyes peeled for you.

Best of luck.

so in the end what came of the "C4 under the seat wired to a radio receiver" plan? Guess you didn't make it happen then.

Mmmm, yeah because it's not like you see XXXXXX bike motor! etc etc.

they just seem to dissapear, maybe somebodys exporting them.

Not meaning to take your thread off topic Mav...

But they can't export them, unless they take them through illegal routes. Which obviously seeing as how they just stole a bike, wouldn't be surprising lol.
If they were to export via legal way: bikes into a container, they get checked by customs. All the engine, chassis and VIN numbers get registered. So they'd come up as stolen.

What can I say that hasn't already been said? The more I hear of this shit, the less I think of crims, cops and courts.
Hoping you get a speedy resolution, Mav.

There has been FAR TOO MANY bikes stolen lately. SOMETHING is going on.
There is a bigger market for bikes now. 250's especially are attractive because of the bigger demand. A litre bike though... very odd.

Unfortunately not quite true. Think about the sheer quantity of containers circulating the planet.
Only a small amount get physically checked.

Good spotting! I hope you called the police to let them know!

Woman at work just told me her 4x4 got stolen from outside the pumphouse (insert witty north shore 4x4 joke here) and then 20 minutes later saw it drive past... 2 hours later it was back to her.

Hey Maverick - prolly doesn't help Mate - but you have my sympathies big time, checked out your vid, what a premo ride - esp with those Yoshi's, great taste, and can relate to your "more than a bike" sentiments.

I lost a GT750 Waterbus last century and still sometimes wonder where it ended up.

Where do these cunce 'get off'?

Anyway, eyes peeled Bro, would love to spot the Death Wish Thief, chin up!

It was actually me that spotted it, on the way over to Flatcap's. It pulled up beside me at the Mt Albert / Pah Rd lights and the first thing I noticed - no gloves!

I just looked at the rider and he just didn't look right on the bike (serious bike, amateur rider kind of thing)...but I hadn't really looked at Mav's description, and being a scooterist, a bike's pretty much a bike. But I clocked the yoshimura cans as it pulled away and then - no plate, and that uneasy feeling at the back of my mind got a bit stronger.

The light finally came on a bit further down the road, so logged onto KB at Flatcap's to check...so sorry, a lost opportunity.:weep:

So moral of the story is- read the stolen bike threads properly.

BUT. Making that turn is not a "popular" option...I would expect anyone heading into town from the east of Royal Oak to take Manukau rd from the roundabout so I think it is a reasonable assumption that either-
a) The bike is being held somewhere in North of Onehunga or
b) It's being held on one of those roads of the bottom end of Pah Road.

I'll be going for a tootle around later on.
