View Full Version : A ride with a warm fuzzy end.

I was at loose ends today and decided that Betty needed a bit of a blow out. The morning weather cold so dressed for the ride, ensuring I put the wet weather gear in the box secured on my pack rack, along with the usuals; wallet, smokes and keys to the house.
Headed around the mountain, as this is a ride I had not done yet, stopped in Opunake for a fag and a warm of the hands, then off up Surf Highway 45, got blown a bit around the road, but thoroughly enjoyed the road, scenery and had the cob webs cleared.
Arrived in NP, found a bike park, took the gear off and about to reach into the box and hell crap not zippered up! Gone is the wallet, and the (shit) new packet of fags! Oh hell, what to be of me now.
Had enough gas to get here, now what am I going to do for gas to get home!
Scratched around the box and found 6 bucks, on reserve so calculated that I could get 3/4 of the way home and ring a friend to get me some gas for the rest of the journey.
Called into Caltex at end of main street, put in $6 and then went inside to ask the quickest way out of the city.
Explained that I had lost my wallet etc out of the box and the woman Bev behind the counter asked a few questions: how far home, how much does the reserve go?
Then she absolutely flawed me, from out of the blue this wonderful woman who has never met me before, told me to put another $6 in "just incase!"
Pardon I said, "yeah she said, go and put another $6 in and I will spot ya".
Well thanks to that wonderful generosity I made it all the way home!
So out there somewhere I need to "pass this on" so that one day I can also help another 'bikie' on their journey.
Awesome warm fussies all the way home for both of us, Betty with more juice to go, and me with a great memory of the kindness of humanity again.
Life is good today. Thanks Caltex.
:woohoo:

Must of been a mum with a son/daughter riding and run out of gas syndrome.
What a bastard losing wallet, hope it's picked up by an honest person.

Should have been an ideal day after yeaterday, saw a few bikes heading to Mokau around lunchtime(12.30ish)today,about 6 or so,the coast that way looked absolutely beaut, postcard type views,so the surf highway would've been great too.

They say karma comes back so you must deserve some(not losing shit),but the petrol attendant is just re-iterating life is good at times.Perhaps she had a meal when you were cooking and was suitably impressed, like most of us.

"yeah she said, go and put another $6 in and I will spot ya".Gak, she beat me to it!! Aint people lovely!

There is more to life than money. I had an old shitter car - it went ok but it was worth nothing. I couldn't sell the the thing, and I was all ready to give it away to some solo mum or someone, rather than sell it for the price of its' battery and second-hand tyres. Some goof offered me good money for it, so that ruined that plan, but I was quite looking forward to it.

Six bucks is a good price for such quality feel-goodness.

Names are personal choice eh,my lawnmower gets called all sorts of names when it won't farkin start, and day is fine, when could be riding. That's why I'm nice to my bike,it starts.

As a ride idea for those interested check out the ambulance ride in Wanganui forums, anyone keen we can go down and meet them .

I have her phone number, I know her name. If she is ever in my vacinity I will repay her, but I feel that it needs to be 'paid forward'.
I have offered her a coffee when she is next in the area, though.
