Okay, Hamilton has staged a V8 Supercar street race and Macau has a similar street race with all sorts of machinery, from single seaters to touring cars and Superbikes racing along what seems to be an armco lined tunnel.
For a variety of reasons (I'm being diplomatic here) it'll never happen, but in an alternate reality if they included Superbikes at the Hamilton event would you be prepared to race in it?
Yeah, yeah, dangerous as fuck yada yada, but as a purely hypothetical question, as a racer, would you be prepared to have a crack or not?
Sure you can potter about at 8/10's, but see the pic below from Macau....does it look like he's not trying?

Well they already do this around Paeroa, Wyndham and a few other places so why the hell not?

pfft, race bikes don't have sidestands, he just having a wee rest. In the early ninties I did demo laps on a GSXR1100 F1 bike around the wellington street race circuit. Going down Jervois quay I went down one gear in the braking area and it was s slippery, the back locked up. :Oi:
The one time the vic club ran a race round that track, I entered my 400 street bike complete with commuter tyres just to make up the numbers and support the club. I ended up kicking butt
I do not think I'd like to race a street circuit the same day as cars are racing there though.

The armco here goes right to ground level - better than posts to slide into. I am guessing they have given some consideration to motorcyclist safety?

What an awesome spectacle that would be.
Wouldn't do it in a month of sundays, but I have been known to take the art of being a chickenshit to olympic levels.

They used to have a street race in Hamilton. It was round the lake on the foot paths. Not much room for overtaking.

I'd have a go. Some pretty cool corners on that Hamilton track. Some of them a bit dodge, but a couple of the really fun looking ones had good run off so you could go nuts.

I'd rather twang into and/or through a flimsy wire fence or against a hay bale than smash into a solid barrier. The street circuits in place also have a reasonable amount of run off at most of the corners meaning you can just bail, do a U-ey and live to fight another lap. There is no second chance, and no alternative with armco, you either make it around the corner or you're screwed, especially at Macau where there is naff all run off at virtually any corner.
And Puke is safe?
Correct me if I'm wrong but Puke has one problem area in particular, but an armco lined street circuit would be like that problem area the whole way around.

You're a crazy bastard Mr Bradford....and you're 8/10's is quicker most peoples flat chat so I think we'll remove your answer, just to restore some statistical credibility to the survey!
It's never gonna happen, but just imagine the sound of a superbike field echoing amongst the buildings. I dunno if I'd have a go....if I can just get a couple more races under my belt I think I'd be up for it. The hairs on the back of my kneck would be standing on end, my knees would be knocking like castanets against the tank, and I'd have to dive off the dummy grid for the 10th nervous piss in the last 10 minutes but I think I'd be in.....hypothetically anyway!

I remember the street race around the lake - crazy over the top of Ruakiwi Rd and around Lake Domain Tce - bumpy as hell and NO run off/protection!

Dont remember the exact years but in the early seventies (and perhaps before) there were motorcycle street races in Hamilton in roughly the same area as the current Supercar circuit. Remember Ginger Molloy there on his "motarded" Bultaco dirt bike. Also remember a guy on a then brand new beautiful Z1 900 Kwaka smashing into the haybales at the roundabout at the end of the straight between the Founders Theatre and Frankton.
They even had sidecars. Was an awesome spectacle.

It would sure be a spectacle but street racing is not usually mixed. Id be a little concerned that with the amount of rubber the cars shed plus fluids it could potentially be a nasty cocktail?

Nope...not in its current form. Racing for me is a balance between level of enjoyment vs risk of serious injury. I know there are plenty of other guys on here who would do it and I know I'll get called softcock etc.
