On this Friday (Anzac day) The Wanganui Ulysses club are having an Ambulance ride all proceeds go to purchase equipment for St Johns Ambulance Wanganui.

We meet at the racecourse in Wanganui from 12 noon and the run commences at 1pm $10 per bike. St Johns will be doing a sausage sizzle for those of you that require lunch.

The ride for the day will be riding around the old 10 mile race circuit at Patea. "Breaking news"? Well I've been advised one of our Wanganui classic bike racer Bill James is be bringing his 1950's AJS 7R single race bike to lead us around the old track,, With the megaphone on it will be music to the ears!! In the 50's The guys used to race up to 4 laps of it. (40 miles) and in several places reaching a hundred miles an hour. After riding it yourselves you will certainly take your hats of to the Rod Colman's and Hempleman's, Len Perry, John Dale, Sid Jensen to mention a few that used to race around it. With those shitty brakes, and skinny tyres, of the time!!

Afterwards we will end the ride at the Waitotara hotel where food and drinks will be available at public bar prices.

Come and join in the fun. The weather forecast is looking good. Ambulance run badges will be available for $8.00 each we have 25 struck so it will be a first in first served basis.

Hope to see a good turn out. Last year we had 80 bikes take part. This year we would like to see a hundred or more bikes. A back up vehicle will follow the ride around. Should anyone have a breakdown. Or run out of gas, this will be frowned on so make sure you have a full tank or enough to get around the course. And of course the Ambulance shouldn't be far away, should the unthinkable happen. Heaven forbid.
Cheers all
Huck

Bugger, extra time in lieu is ok but not the same as having the day off.

Makes me laugh when all the larger firms open after 1pm on Anzac day, shit our favourite pastime is shopping.Realise that some business' need to operate 7 days,i.e gas stations, dairies etc.

South of Patea take the turn off to the Whenakura hall.

The hall is where the ten mile circuit starts.

A great turnout again for the Ambulance charity ride, 70 bikes this year a few down on last year. But the price petrol is nowadays we got a good turnout. Thank you all that attended. We collected just on $800 for St Johns Wanganui. When St Johns tells us what they need in the way of equipment. I shall let you know just what we purchased for them. Today's riders were a well behaved and responsible bunch of riders, No offs!! and no breakdowns. And no one run out of gas. See you all next year. Happy and safe riding until then.
Cheers
