After doing the Coro Loop yesterday Blackbuell and I cruised home via Kaiaua Kawakawa Bay. Those of you familiar with those roads will know how bad sun-strike can be in the late arvo at this tim of the year.
Well that turned out to be the LEAST of our problems.
We had just gone through Kawakawa Bay and were heading up the hill into a lefty. Mike was overtaking a wagon when another car came around the corner from the opposite direction. It was no drama, he was still able to complete his passing quite safely.
WELL the driver of the station wagon seemed to take offence and took off after him. I took off after the wagon trying to etch its plate into my memory cos it looked like the driver was gonna try and run him off the road.
Mike was aware he was being chased so took off at high speed. I stayed behind the car watching in utter disbelief as it went sideways around corners on the wrong side of the road in the attempt to catch Mike.
Then the ultimate, we came up behind another car with on coming traffic. I thought that would stop him but no! The wanker pulls out into the path of the oncoming car. The car he was passing slammed its brakes on and pulled off the road to create some space and didkhead driver carried on.

Got to Clevedon and there was no sign of Mike. I had a good look at the occupants of the car as it pulled into a parking space.
NOT what I was expecting.
A middle-late-aged couple with a little dog in the back seat...wonder if it had thrown up? I would have the way he was driving.

Anyways Mike appeared and I told him what I had witnessed. We both stood there shaking our heads. What the hell was the driver THINKING?

A slightly crazy end to an otherwise awesome day LOL

I've often seen that kind of behaviour. It's a very New Zealand phonomenon unfortunately. I still can't explain it.

Happened to me after I overtook a car on Kahikitea Flat Road on the last ATNR.

I didn't dare take off at high velocity due to the high likelihood of cops further up the road, so the guy just did his best to scare me by zooming by on my left about a foot away as I rode at the speed limit before driving in front of me for a few kilometres, waving his fist out the window.

Whatcha gonna do, eh?

Some people need a seriously large dose of Zen.

Some of us old folk have got things that have come loose in our heads! :blank:

Like the small print on fireworks says, "light blue touch paper, do not hold in the hand!"

We just go off sometimes! Cheers John.

The odd one takes offence sure, but the key is, dont put yourself or anyone for that matter, in a predicament where you may cause the person in controll of a car/bike that you are passing to react in such a manner. Passing on a left hander going up hill with sun strike? (thats how I read it) not the best manouvre really is it? There will be somewhere safer to pass soon enough. Im sure Mike was in controll of the situation and may even agree it was a little tight, bit of over reaction from the car driver sure, seems like he thought Mike put a few lives on the spot......ah well, everyone lives to tell their side of the story I guess. Betting the car driver has his own views.

Had one of these festery bastards come up to my bike yelling about you crazy young buggers etc!

I took my helmet off and they could instantly see I was probably older than their own father.

Things went quiet then and they slunk off!

We had not done anything except pass them just back down the road.

Silly bastards just seem to believe all the bullshit about motorbikes being dangerous.

Bikes are not dangerous, people are! Especially people like them! :argh: John.

similar experience coming back from the Chch Sound of Thunder one year:

we come up behind a car and try to pass, he chops it down and nails it while pulling out a bit to make it hard for us.
Finally we get past but the lunatic chases the bikes (loaded up with tents and passengers etc)
Eventually we come to a bridge with no traffic and the driver comes full steam up behind, passes the first few bikes then swerves into the front bikes taking one out at the end of the bridge.
Bikes stop to look after the fallen, then 2 take off after the car but don't catch him b4 Kaikoura.

Drop into the local pig station to be told that a local had already been in and complained about dangerous bikies chasing him and his family (yes, he had children in the car). Cop bastards told us to fuck off or they'd book us. (and some cops out there wonder why the fuck i have no respect for them)

Luckily we got the asswipe drivers reg plate. He received anonymous calls for years at the worst times of the day and night i believe; not enough payback for the GBH he deliberately tried to kill or maim a group of bikers.

he was OK, shaken but not badly damaged. His bike must have cost a couple of g to fix though: Gordon on the big Kwaka

no point killing the bastard, you'd end up being the one in the slammer.

better to have him know that we know where he lives and live in fear for years and years of that retribution that never comes.

pity there was no way to get one up on the asshole coppers though

EVERY time I have been victimised by some scum lowlife and went to the pigs about it, they were like "(pregnant pause) well, what did you do to deserve that? long silence ensues..."

"Fucking useless cunts" only begins to describe how helpless we have felt at times.

They called me up yesterday while I was out with my daughters, and told them to get lost and hung up on them. Supposedly I "had to" come down to the police station and sort some shit out. I couldn't give a cup of crap. next.

sure, i could have easily organised retribution from some of the very serious people i knew when i was at the helm of an organisation that regularly dealt with gangs; but that's crossing a line i refuse to cross.

i reckon you start down that path and you never get back out; you end up being hated by old friends and family, a crim or dead or spending most of your life looking out at the world from a small room in a big place where pretty boys are raped and victimised.

again, better for the prick to live in fear for years and years, and he did

Many years ago when I was still a student in Dunedin, I was riding my GSX1100EZ back from a trip into central Otago. It was fairly late at night when I come up behind an old Ford. He was going fairly slow so I dropped down a gear and overtook him.

The car accelerated behind me and started flashing his lights and tooting his horn. I began to freak out and decided the best course of action was simply to speed off into the night.

My fuel was getting low so I pulled in for petrol about 30 minutes after the incident. As I was getting ready to leave, the old Ford came hooning into the service station forecourt. Oh shit! I thought - this won't end well.

The driver got out and walked over to see me. He was a huge maori bloke in mud stained jeans and a shearers singlet. He stood beside me and asked "Are you the biker that passed me about 40 kays down the highway?"

"Um yeah" I replied.

"A pannier fell off your bike when you overtook me. I tried to flag you down, but you zoomed off!"

He was telling the truth ... and I never found the pannier I lost on that lonely Otago road.

OK, I've had a few of these, the one I'll talk about is this....
I'm 1.97 meters tall and my pillion for the day was about 1.98 meters tall (NZ volleyball rep, Samoan and HUGE), and we were on a RG250  Anyway, we were coming up the southern side of the takas, and went to pass a car on the passing lane, about a 3rd of way up. This pillock decided he did not want to be passed by a overloaded demented bumble bee (bad paint job, don't ask!) and swerved out into the right hand passing lane and forced us out to the other side of road. I made the pass stick. When we got to the top, we got off the bike and walked to the side of the road to wait for him. The look on his face was pure horror as he saw us (naturally we were sporting mean badd arse looks) His wife took one look at us, turned to him and absolutely let him have it, complete with bashing the side of his head. As she looked to be doing a better job than we could do, we just stood there pissing ourselves laughing! :woohoo:

Main thing is that no one was hurt. Must have been scary though! :shit:

But some people out there  fucking hopeless bastards doesn't even begin to describe it.
E.g. I was driving in the cage from Blenheim to Nelson at one point. I got to sit behind an old red sedan doing something like 70 km/h down through the twisties and was of course slightly annoyed by this, but of course you bide your time and wait for the right moment. Coming to the passing lane I accelerated to 120 km/h to overtake and lo and behold Mr. Fuckwit Snr accelerates to something like 130-140 km/h. Of course I could just have put my foot down and be gone - but I was just stricken with disbelief. At the end of the passing lane - he slowed down to about 90-95 km/h. In the car - an old fella and a young kid (I'm guessing granddad and grandson)... I hope the grandson won't follow his granddads example otherwise we're stuck with another stupid cunt on the roads for years to come!
