View Full Version : Finally got my big ol' Hornet!

Well the deed was done yesterday (Monday) when I stopped off and got some money from the bank for the purpose of acquiring a new bike. Obviously since I did not need the loan, I was granted it post haste.

A quick call to Richard McF at Botany Honda and I threatened to cut him off at the knees if he didn't have my pre-selected Hornet ready for me to ride out! :devil2:

"Come drop off a deposit and you can pick it up tomorrow" he sez.
"Not good enuff ow! I will be riding it out today!"

And the deed was done, Donor was kind enuff to drop me off to the house of bikes and we promptly made Richard's life hell with our inane comments, general hullaballoo and prevarications! Didn't dicker over the sticker price $10995 is well cheep cheep and I'm crazy that way, did say I wanted the ORC covered for a year and they came to the party! :niceone:

Of course he being general filthy biker scum promptly joined as well!

Well, got the Hornet, Dave was good enuff ta slap on a free tank scuff pad and a tank o'gas.

What to do, what to do ...

I scrubbed in the tyres via Whitford/Maraetai, dropped off at chez Donor's and showed it off to his missus and I got back my little bag o'tricks.

And rode off into the sunset towards Tauranga ... met up with DMTND and Unit, shoot the breeze and I pootled off towards Rotovegas and turned towards Taupo (rode by Meeky_Mouse's house but no lights on!), turned around and rode back up to Dorkland... 672km on first day of ownership! :scooter: :woohoo: I guess I better book a 1000km service tomorrow, since I intend to go riding again in the morning!

Oh yeah, I did say to certain miscreants that I would be getting my big ol'hornet in Mar/Apr ... :nya: I think people by now should be realising that I always do as I say and always say what I will do!

Piccies below!

Keeping the big round eye? Or are you going to mess up the wiring and buy some twin spots?

So THIS is why you have been quiet. I knew you were up to something!
I demand we do a good solid ride, I'm stuck in West Auck until tomorrow, and that means no riding for me :( But every waking moment after that, we will be riding. Just to let you know.

That bike looks fucking fantastic by the way. Expect a visit very soon.

:o Er chur chur eberyblody! Actually, I will be making a call to Botany Honda right now to book in the 1000km service for today. There are some roads out there now that the big ol'Hornet needs to see, since his little brother, the little ol'Honda has been chatting to him about! :innocent:

Now... just the CB600s to collect ... both the original model and the new Eyetie designed one! :innocent: :msn-wink:

In reply to Tri boy.

Even buying a used bike in good nick, when i bough my c model zxr, i remember the first night, going out to the garage every 10 minutes, just to drool, have a seat, and know it was all mine. Like a kid at christmas.

I was like that every morning i came out to ride that bike too.

Just looking at it sitting there gleaming.

Sigh, eventually i will have another toy.

Skid.

Got the 1st servicing done! Hassle free and good friendly service from the lads at Botany Honda. Rode the bike back via Whitford-Maraetai and Twilight road ... seems McJim can't let that go! Need to find some new material Jamie!

Bought some bling for it by getting another Innovations Puncture repair kit, with all my pootling its a must for me! :sweatdrop

It also appears I am officially gay now that I have joined the Honda Riders club due to my purchasing a faggy ghay Honduh bike!

Handles just like my little ol'hornet but on steroids, just better braking, acceleration ... :innocent: I dunno what all these other peeps are on about with the setup of the stock Hornet being all wrong, handles like a dream to me!

Might just install a Scottoiler since I don't want to keep stopping every 500km to spray chain lube on!

Thanks again everybody for the kind words and positive comments! I'll be shopping for another new bike in 6 months time methinks!

Interesting about the Scottoiler, was wondering about it myself (no, not for the ginny!!!) Another new bike in 6 months time bud? you gotta get yourself a chick or two or three to spend all that $ on:lol: Oh, that's right, you're officially outed now ;)

So is it really just like a bigger version of the lil one to ride..
I mean do you notice the bigger size, weight.
And how much faster???
Twice as quick accel wise?
Poss first big bike for me or a 600 Hornet.

Yep, shure is! You do notice the taller height and its not as convenient to move around like a little ol'hornet ... but in trade you do get much, much faster, much much more power ... interesting to watch vehicles in your wing mirrors become tiny little specks! :innocent: .... but thats neither big nor clever! :sweatdrop

It handles very much the same too! I was pootling around SH22 and various other twisties and found it to handle very much the same! Sure taking in allowance for more weight etc. but in the ned, feels like an old child hood friend who has grown up alongside you! :chase::baby:

I'll be getting the 600 models as well ... just to make sure I have the complete collection  And as for the piccy below, I think these are spiffing seat warmer bling for hornets! All Hornet riders should consider adding these to their rides! :devil2:

Someone should set up a "How many days until GiJoe adds under seat LEDs so it matches the little ol' Hornet?" poll, I rekcon... :dodge: Also high on my list to change would be the stock mirrors and exhaust, followed by air filters, power commander and tune... oh shit, sorry man... :o

Got the 1st servicing done! Hassle free and good friendly service from the lads at Botany Honda.

You jumped the queue and got your service done on the day? I had to wait nine days to get my 1,000km service done as I got no such favour from them (even though I was told "Just bring her in, it'll only take an hour."). The worst bit is that I was on annual leave for the sole purpose of playing with my new toy and had a piffling 300km to play with. That... irks me somewhat. I guess I'm going somewhere other than Botany Honda for my motorcycle needs from now on as that really does get my on goat. It didn't before as I didn't think there was any preferential treatment but it sure does now.

Edited this post a little after a wee bit more thinking. Anyhoo, enough with the negative vibes. It's nice to see you on a bigger machine, we'll have to go riding soon!

Hey - now that's a sweet looking ride

About those mods - in the last 6 months my new bikes had:
Bars (twice! - go for alloy if you are changing)
Grips
Mirrors (4 sets! - still saving for the ultimate Rizomas - sigh)
Turn signals (ick Mr Honda)
A trim to the rear guard (and a winter eliminator project planned)
Crash knobs (get on to e-bay - very cheap)
Mods to the stock muffler outlets last week (approved in writing by Blue Wing no kidding )

more planned ............but saving for a new rear tyre estimated to be required by Spring.

Dam these naked bikes are fun!

Get out and enjoy it.

Actually the Big Ol'Hornet makes it quite easy! I've done the same trip many times on the little ol'hornet and to confess, I enjoyed the challenge of riding the little ol'hornet more!

I think you're best off sticking to smaller bikes from now on, you'll only frustrate yourself if you go and buy a Goldwing or ST1300. At least with the Hornet you have to stop every once in a while to fill the tank, lube the chain and pick the bugs out of your helmet vents :D

I've had mine a couple of weeks over 6 months and just turned over 5000ks last weekend - I suspect by the end of this long weekend you will have caught me up!

You had better start saving for a new rear tyre!

Yeah, I had to replace the Hornet's original rear tyre after 6000kms.

Well coming home from "A day in the life of gijoe1313", the ride today and then a night time ride all over the fricken place, he decided to also lump his photos onto my laptop! So I thought I'd upload one to show the poor fricken thing that he's abusing and rarely cleaning!

Behold, the Hornet that can't keep up with his owner.

Got a Battleaxe 56 on the rear, that what you guys had? Looking at the wear already, I can see what you mean!

Ooh, may just enquire about getting a batch load of tyres ala DMNTD ... since the little ol'hornet can use them as well

Yo GiJoe - I often have a late night - give me a text if you pass by again (as I'm sure you will be!), and I might be able to join you for a part of your pootle!
