at The Media Club, 191 Armagh Street.
$10.00 entry
Hear this well known speaker and entertainer, very familiar to
motorcyclists through Canterbury and Westland.
Phil will share with you his experiences of the journey to break the
world land speed record “The Flying Kiwi”
This will be a fun and humorous evening, the bar will be open, supper provided and an assortment of motorcycling items will be raffled and get your bid in on the silent auctions.
There will also be some door prizes, lucky numbers at the entry. Phil will also have his book “The Worlds Fastest Sidecar” available to purchase so, bring along plenty of money.

I thought you'd need two people (i.e. a team) to complete a sidecar attempt... :whistle:

Phil was the person who organised everything behind the land speed record attempt I believe. However, they were two riders: Phil Garrett and Glen Hayward. Glen was 4 km/h faster than Phil on the measured distance IIRC. As such Glen holds the world record and Phils speed was entered for the NZ record.
I believe the book you are referring to is "Flying Kiwis - A quest for speed" by Kerry Swanson and Andrea Spinks. It's worth a read IMHO and you can pick it up from a number of places - most certainly from Street & Sport motorcycles on Manchester St.

and just for a wee side note: land speed record holders should NOT attempt to race buckets... its a dangerous game in the little league eh Glen? all that power :devil2: :chase:

Land speed atempts you are allowed to use 60kg of ballast instead of a passenger

Ok I went to see Phil at the Media Club tonite, Phil was brilliant and I had no idea how much planning etc it took to complete the mission. $224000 and 300 volunteers helping out.....wow! Awesum!!!
