Hard to believe that the FJ could need another engine so soon! It's only an 89! thought those things were good for 300,000 miles. Been a bit slack on the maintenance have ya??

Hey Ambler,

Not too sure to be honest as for whats wrong well.......it Started to make a tapping noise in the valves at low revs I thought poss slack cam chain so put it in, had them replace cam chain and adjusted the valve clearances, rode it home from shop when it started to making knocking noise. trailered it home and took it back next day, Mechanic called back and advised that he thinks that the no 3 piston is dodge and had some movement at TDC could be bent conrod or something,
So without stripping down he couldnt be sure but thought it might be more cost effective to look for another motor as sourcing parts for this model may be difficult.

Any thoughts, wont know till I get it back and have a look

Nah quite the opposite actually........ride it like a nana and have had it well maintained. she hasn't missed a beat even when I picked it up from the mechanic he was saying how strong their motors are.......really gutted to be quite honest

thanks for the reply

I'd like to say yes as they seem to be a very well established and reputable business, Unfortunately for me this is the first time I have used them so there is that thought in the back of my mind but I wont know until I get it back and have a look........

This man is a god on Fj 1200s, I know its in England, can't do much about that but if you fax him your breakdown symptoms or better still join up, you'll never be short of help and advice and they have more FJ 1200 parts than you will ever need.

Gudgeon pin on No. 3 maybe ??? movement on ONLY No. 3 means NOT main bearing gone, No biggie if its only TOP end needing work. Parts aren't THAT rare. Get a workshop manual and do it yourself, but read it CAREFULLY.
