hi all,
doing my BHS test tomorrow.. the guy is coming to me so thats my transport problem sorted..
need a few things clarified though
the 18m in over 10seconds, is this done stopped at the start of the 18m, or roll on?
my bike seems to have a dead zone between stalling and going to fast to take over 10 secs.. but its probs just me
and how long is the slalom course usually? and the cones are 3.5m apart and .5m off set?
how many have been asked to do a fig 8?
Thanks
Reido

Not sure about the 18m thing?...what exactly is that? Is it slow speed controll?
The slalom is a piece of piss really, when i did mine (cant remember how far apart they were) but they were spread out and it seemed easy enough, but he closed the gap after each time so the gap got smaller. He will talk you through it, you wont be asked just to go do it, its all explained, just listen and you'll be sweet...good luck.
Doug Swanson was the bloke that I did mine with a few years ago.

roll on. Sounds like you need to adjust the idle up a wee bit and take the slack out of the throttle cable. The slalom is about 10m long ish. Yes. Yes, I did a figure 8.
What you need is lots and lots and LOTS of dead slow speed practice. Balance balance balance balance !! Go as slow as you can and practice until you are completely wobble-free. Relax and breathe and clear you head. You will be fine. Everyone passes it. No rocket science.

bit of a late one but what i did when i did mine was had my foot on the back brake so i didnt have to feather the clutch as much and it was smoother aswell.

they dont want you to fail and will work with you to pass you. I hadnt ridden b4 and completed with a pass in an hour and a half. Just listen well and do it. Good luck.

"Emergency" braking is only at low speed on the BHS course; and figure 8 is a compulsory part of the training and test as far as i can remember. For slalom between the cones keep focus up ahead at a distant point, not on the path through the cones. Is a piece of cake.
Good luck.
i passed, had my learners for a week now =]
on Thursday i had a 3 hour riding course with an instructor
cost an arm and a leg but it was worth it

Congrats on passing, well done :)
Maybe post up about your experiences and answers to your own questions for others to learn from?

lolz good idea,
cones were offset side to side, was actually rather difficult on my CBF250.
fixed my slow ride problem, bring the clutch in slightly, steady throttle, and rear brake.

When I went to do Mine I rode mine there.
Found out they didn't even have a bike for me in the first place so I was pretty lucky.
Now I didn't even do the course. just watched every one else everything looked ok. Flew through everything then it got to the slalom......... I COULDNT DO IT! Seriously i couldnt even walk my bike thru
( the test was inside a factory and i kept going into the wall) , the instructor asked what was wrong and i said mate my bike twice the size of your gn 125 F****** let me wait untill someones finished and let me use the gn for it, after that I was sweet got thru first time even tho I had never ever been on a gn

:niceone: That's the way to do it man. Once you get the hang of that you can crawl along in Auckland traffic all day, don't have to keep putting your feet down, clutching in, doing another start etc.
I remember the very first time I rode to work/anywhere. I live in Mangere Bridge, which was the first place to have those ridiculous motorway on-ramp traffic lights (where they let just two cars out at a time). Engine not so good -- naff coil, very poor low-speed carburetion, and a complete numbskull riding the thing. Doing a clutch start once was tricky, let alone 10-12 times in 20 metres. Ended up stalling, had to do a running bump start down the side of the cars. Nice trucker let me in.
Fun times <_<
