Feel sorry for his family. Shark warning signs had been up for two weeks, he still went out and now the shark is to blame. The 'officials' do not believe that two were involved, just the one, very aggressive. Not a nice way to go at all.

Its called the balance of nature. If a preditor kills any other species we have no problem with it. It goes not show that we are not the top of the food chain. I do feel sorry for the friends and whanau for their loss and trauma experienced. :argh:

Shark kills man as part of natural process - KILL SHARK!!!
Man kill other man as part of drink-driving/speeding etc - take his licence off him for 18 months and MAYBE send him to prison for 6 months but NEVER kill him.
Moral? Introduce drinking/careless/bad drivers to shark, - and be prepared to rescue shark.

idiots.... a shark kills someone in saffa land and well thety look at the nets but i have never heard of such a big shark hunt??? Does aussie have shark nets. if so then it's the govnment/public to blame if not it's the government/public to blame. Leave the poor shark alone. Feel sorry for the family but will killing the shark change things/make them feel better.... doubt it. PROTECTED SPECIES is just that .... protected no govournment should be able to overthrow that just to appease the public.
BLOODY IDIOTS :argh:

aparrently thier game wardens or whatever have been given the go ahead to dispose of the shark when they find it (according to tonights news) %#$@%$@#%$@#%$#%#$!%$! pisses me off i think i should go cull the polititions. If there were like a million bizziol GW sharks i suppose there wouldn't be so much a fuss. it would be like a tuna accidently killing a person so they kill the tuna. But a protected species AND after the guys were warned.... grrrrrrrr

I agree with pretty much everything said so far.
Looks like a prime example of nature at work. Can't really blame anyone except the shark food. Not the sharks fault for wanting to eat. Not like there was any maliciousness in it. We're the only one's who are like that.
I can understand why some prefer animals to humans.

Yep, humans are doing a great job of stuffing the world up. Culling wild animals because we encroach on their territory and cutting down forests for expansion and resources. Its only a matter of time before mother nature says enough is enough.

And how will they know which shark is the culprit ? Will they just string up any old shark to appease a few bathers/boaties ? (I know the family are against the culling)

He think about it.... we thrill at Great Whites from cages with blood and gore all around to attract them (it's called tourism), we then go out and have a nice swim or a surf. Ain't no one heard of the 99 monkey theory? even though it has been debunked? Reckon crocodiles jump out of the water instinctivley? maybe some did originally but a whole lot more do now, and it isn't genetic, perhaps trained? Great whites own the ocean, and thats the way it should be.

Well they are pretty scarce and they have the size etc of the animal. Still it's bloody stupid. According to the news they were monitoring it yesterday and then when the permission was given to terminate today they couldn't find it. So not only are they idiots but they are idiots who think that they have a right to kill something for doing what it does naturally. Sure lions have to be killed when they attack humans because they develope a taste for human flesh (due to the high salt content and how soft it is) and so they attack more humans because they start viewing us as a delicacy and stop hunting other game to hunt humans . But i don't think sharks are the same. Gets me really angry. Boy ignores warning, boy dies, feel sorry for boy, blame shark, shark was there in the begining and boy knew about it. If they do find and terminate the animal i'm gonna be really really pissed. :brick: :brick:

I think the main reason big cats continue to attack and eat people once they get the taste for us is that we're so damn easy to run down and catch - you've seen how an antelope can run and jump to escape - you think we can do that? We must be the Big Mac of the big cat world - convenience food.

Yeah, but hopefully with slightly more nutritional value.

Poor shark! All that effort expended for a low nutrition, scrawny, skin and bone food source. Humans are low on the food chain for sharks. For the effort expended, they prefer something tasty and nutritious, like a seal or dolphin or tuna. - lots of fat and flesh. Thats why most sharks tend to bite, then spit you out and fuck off! Whoops, that mouthful of shit aint a seal!. Shark musta bin real hungry!

When man enters the water he enters directly into the foodchain, and not necessarily at the top. I have encountered a lot of wildlife in the water over many years of surfing from Orca to SeaWalrus and everything in between. It's their world not ours.
statistically You have more chance of being run over by a bus than taken by a shark..(no consolation to the victim unfortunately)
