Hi there

Took a trip back up through the Pohangina Valley today. Went through there a year ago today, but took the wrong road and ended up on the gravel road on the western side of the river.

Good to get on the right road today. Passed about 10 bikes heading south on the Pohangina Valley Road. Really nice up through there. Went up through the Wairarapa through Ponatai and Alfredton and through the Gorge. Really cold through the Wairarapa, so it was good to come through the Gorge into some sunshine.

The only bummer was just south of Apiti the road is REALLY ROUGH, not just gravel, but big chunky rocks - hard work on a road bike! Had a close moment when a cyclist couldn't control her bike in front of us and wobbled into our path.

We still haven't come across the cafe that is somewhere on the Pohangina Road.

Pilgrim's Rest is the place you are talking about I presume on the Pohangina Valley East Rd, or you can go to the Waterford at Raumai which is closer to Ashhurst.

Try Google Earth - if I've got them right they are about here:

"Waterford " enter -40.2107336137, 175.776469006

"Pilgrims Rest" enter -40.079533053, 175.911362464

Hi Merv

How you doing?

Wow! GPS co-ordinates for when we need a cup of tea! That's really handy, one problem though our GPS is still on Santa's shopping list!

We will try to pay a bit more attention next time we go through there. We have to come across these cafes sometime.

Just have a look on Google Earth though, you don't need a GPS for that and then memorise where they are for next time up there.

CCA is the go for us tomorrow as per this thread http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=61381
