Glenorchy is 50km south of Quenstown, and a wicked 50k at that. So whos planning on doing it?
7-9th January which is kinda a week sooner than usual, as new years day is on saturday.
A small group of us make our way to Queenstown on Friday and have a decent feed and a few beers that nite so its just a small ride in on Sat after a cooked breaky. Home againg on Sun either via central or the west coast depending on weather
Heres a shot of the early arivals looking down on the Dart river.

Just read in todays Southland Times that the GY rally isnt on in Jan 05, Bugger we always went there so how about somewhere else having a go at running a rally at central otago. The luggate domain would be a good venue, weather is always good there. Pub close by, central location for west coasters and the red and black riders. What do you reackon guys. Cheers Toddy

Just got a hold of the Southland Times and it's TRUE!!! no Glenorchy Rally! and after I jacked-up leave to get to it too! :brick:
I screwed up date-wise, thought the 05 was the day of the month instead of thinking 2005 - doh!
Toddy, any chance YOU could jack-up a piece of the domain for KBers and mates to use on that weekend? - maybe even on a 'stand-by' basis in case the Glenorchy guys find a new venue at short notice.
Anybody else who reckons they can get a patch of land for us all to use and have our own 'mini-rally' is welcome to do so - you got my backing (with the proviso the Glenorchy guys don't come up trumps with a new location for their rally).

I'll make inquiries with the motor camps at Bannockburn (near Cromwell), Luggate, Hawea etc and see if they are capable of handling 20+ bikers, I'll post what response I get, anybody else that knows a friendly farmer from say Fairlie to Cromwell is welcome to give it a go to find a suitable site for a collection of bikers to get together that weekend.

One of the most excruciating motorcycling moments I ever saw was at that rally.
*Scene*
Garden bar at the Glenorchy Hotel
Garden bar immediately adjacent to and with clear sight of the main street
Approximately 100 bikers in attendance
*Aaaannnndddd......Action*
A fellow leaves the bar, hops onto a an early GS Suzuki or similar.
Pack rack fully loaded with camping equipment.
Pulls an impressive wheelie but starts to overbalance to one side.
Lands crossed up and bins to cheers and general applause.
Wisely leaves helmet on with visor down and picks up bike with assistance of friendly bystanders.
Tries to start the bike on the starter (all still directly in front of the full audience - none of whom have had to move to see the full show).
Last seen trying to push start down the street and round the corner.
I never saw that bike at the rally (not to say that it didn't turn up but it makes a nice ending).

If Mrs SDs Fairlane is ready we might go to the Whitestone Rodders 30th Anniversary bash but most likely we'll head for the Vincent Rally.
C'mon guys, surely SOMEBODY can come up with a Claytons rally somewhere on the second weekend in January? :spudwhat:

The missus and I would be keen to support a ride down that way if someone if organising one... we've got a couple mates that were thinking of comming down to Glenorchy with us this year and I'm sure they'd be interested also.
What a pity the rally is off... we have always looked forward to it (and previously the Remarkables rally) for several years now.
Actually... thinking about the site of the old Remarkables rally... isn't that normally available for camping.. does someone down that way want to check it out perhaps?

It's the 12 Mile Delta site.
It's a DOC-run site with dunnies only.
You just roll up and stay as I understand it.
I'd like to help organise it as I'm just down the road but I'll be in sunny Nelson until the next weekend.
Unless you want to leave it for a couple of weeks - maybe combine it with the Vincent County...?

Cool - how about some organising then - I'll check out with DOC tomorrow what the deal is and Scumdog can get to work confiscating piss from the boy racers in Balclutha & Gore for the bar.
I might see if I can find a better site but I reckon we should set a date anyway and work out the details later.
Me, any weekend after 16 January.
For reference the Vincent is on 4 & 5 Feb.

Suggestion , There is a backpackers Lodge at Milford Sound full of hot babes every night. Organise a date , and we will ride into Milford on a Sat Afternoon, stay night , there is a bar there, or scummy could bring along the hot rod full of Goreons piss . My suggestion is Easter. Chch guys can ride to Queeenstown Friday, Meet at my place Sat ( half way between Mossburn and Te Anau ) Overnight Milford ,Sunday ride to south Coast , Invervegas and up to Papatowai, Stay night, then onto Scummys for more donated drinks and home. Best rides in country. Cheers Toddy PS Read in the paper a few weeks back that constable taylor had an admirer wanting to play with S.D.'s crown jewels. Not good aye.

Pubs are good too - but sitting around a fire on the side of the lake singing Kumbaya might be nice.
OK, here's a solid proposal - Saturday 22 January 2005. Twelve Mile Delta. Meet at Famous Kelly's at Frankton at 2pm, ride to Glenorchy for a beer, back to the Delta.
I'll arrange a hammer for the tent pegs, a barbecque and if DoC will let us, a couple of braziers.
Bring yer own bbq food, tent, piss and bullshit - easy!
Sorry Manuboy but I'm not here for the weekend before, I've got no problem if you can get something together instead though.
HondaV2 - a Milford trip sounds good.

IDB's proposal but on the original weekend for all those who had planned ahead.
Meet Famous Kelly's Frankton Village diagonally opposite the BP, 2PM Sat 8th Jan.
On to GY, back to 12 Mile camp with coldies from GY Pub. BYO tent, BBQ supplies. ( toilets only at the 12 Mile )
Somebody local will volunteer a BBQ, (probably a fire ban on at the 12mile if summer kicks in) It can go on the back with me.
I'll post a new thread for folks to RSVP, "Replacement Glenorchy Rally"

I'm on a 10 acre block just out of Alexandra. The grass is a bit long, but anyone wants to camp that weekend its fine by me. There is a closed fire season, so that means no campfires. Almost anything else is fine.

This is probably a silly question... but does anyone know why the organisers of the GY rally have not considered using the 12mile site for the rally... is it perhaps not available or possibly just not available to a large organised rally (maybe DOC not happy with several hundred bikes on their land)
But anyway, if there is something planned at this site (or for that matter, anywhere else in the vicinity) then there's at least two of us here who you can count in.

ahhh... the politically correct brigade strikes again... ruin all our fun they do, next they'll be trying to stop the wet-t competitions (like they have a chance of ever doing that LOL)
I can't remember any of the 'public' being there when the rally was on... several thousand bikers always seemed to scare them off so not sure what the problem was with there being strippers there.

REMARKABLES RALLY was not canned because of strippers at 12 mile delta in a public place.
Rally was canned at 12 mile delta because, our lease with DOC has runned out and they wanted $5.00 per head per day for site and we could not stop the public from coming onto the site.
The club spend $35000.00 on this site (it was only a 4 wheel drive track), had a bank account with $$$$$ in it for DOC to put on fresh running water from the lake above 12 mile and flashable toilets.
