Motorcycling......why the buzz, why the thrill?
Is it worth upping the stakes as measured against
driving in a cage?

Only those who ride will know and only those who
ride will understand.

The sun warming you through your leathers, the cool
breeze wafting around your neck and through the vents
in your helmet. The smell of the countryside and the
feeling of liberty and freedom.

The intoxication as a simple twist of your right hand
brings the horizon towards you at a quicker rate than
before. The culmination of decades of engineering giving
you the control of power unimaginable fifty years ago.

Speed that was once unattainable when humans roamed the
earth on horseback are now reached as the clutch finally
grips in first gear and we have another five to go.
The sheer power that matches the largest herd of horses
that exists on the plains of America.

The euphoria as one corner is taken after another
that would have the tyres screaming in a car. The instant
throttle response when that "little extra" is required
to pass that line of cars. Looking at the world at different
angles and seeing the scenery flash by and being fully
aware of your environment.

You know to well the dangers that exist and yet every minute
on your bike is worth the chance that maybe you will never
ride again. But did the jousters of old think that when they
faced their adversaries with horse, lance and shield many
eons ago?

I think not. The modern day knight, sits astride his mount
with their helmet and leathers as their armour and the
potency of their machine as the lance and never think that
maybe this will be their last joust. We ride because the thrill
brings us back for more. The sense of freedom and release from
the negatives of life as we concentrate on every movement, spurs
us on in the never ending quest to ride in the zone.

Aren't you pleased that you discovered the joy of living
more in five minutes than most people live in a lifetime?

Very nice, for me anyway nothing and i really do mean nothing makes me feel what i feel when the night before a weekend/week away on the bike i go through the motions,i pack my stuff in a certain order, attach bags filled with said stuff in a certain way then for the billionth time toss and turn all night with expectation,in the morning go through the same old rituals ive done a millon times and off i go,within a few kms a smile i can feel to my ears comes across my face and i am reminded that this is where i belong.Am not a religious bloke but will admit to on the odd occasion thanking god for making me a motorcyclist.

I am very greatful to have been blessed with a mind, body and soul capable recognising such intangible feelings. The waning sunset on the horizon or the cool sea breeze skimming your face puts me in a tranquil heavenly abode. A place where I believe the soul resides. I can for those few minutes leave all my worldly acquisitions behind and bask in the toatality of peacefulness. That is also why I meditate.

I've never been able to put my finger on what keeps me on a bike.

It's strange knowing in the back of your mind that this corner could send you sliding on your ass.

Ive often asked myself why do i push it why do i endanger myself to find the limits of my fears and the limits of my machine, just to know how much grip those dunlops under me have, how fdar can i push this thing.

I also love having the control.

But i don't know i used to grin from ear to ear while riding.

I now only get that when riding in the company of friends for a touring cruise.

The full on blat in the countryside is fun, but there is alot of fear and concentration in that helmet, but its also a sense of achievement, full cranked over winding up the whangamata road around the 55's knee on the ground peg down fairing pressing the inside of my leg doing 150kph , soaking in the scenary the road condition loving the day, i know it could all go tragically wrong in a second, but once i'm free and knee down.

Nothing else matters, i am cut loose i am free.

It's another reason why taupo race track is so liberating for me.

I remeber standing on the pit wall at my first trackday, looking out over the track before hitting the track again ( i think i had already done one session...

I look at that track, and just know it is pure freedom, the stress of the pits etc is gone... i can just crack it open, give it all me and my machine have got, no police, no dodgy barriers. just me and speed just going as hard as i can.

That is heaven to me.

But yet.

I still cannot explain why before that helmet goes on, why do i want to go for a ride, is it this freedom thats calling me? i do not know. i think it is a question perhaps best left unanswered....

Me at the trackday looking out onto the track, you can see i have a look of freedom in my eyes. with a touch of desire...

It's actually nice to see that you appear to be in touch with some aspects of yourself.. now pull your fly up and focus on some less spiritual aspects of your life... get yourself a job so you can earn your keep.. try a customer service roll where you can meet and study people.. see what you admire about others and what they do.. as time goes by, and you see more of the opportunities available you can target a more meaningful and satisfying role/career... Seriously... you will be much happier with your life when you take some responsibility for it

In the meantime you can make me a crocodile sandwich....
and make it snappy:lol:

Nah, I'm concentrating too much to think up paragraphs when riding :)
I don't actually drink much at all but in the weekend like to chill out a little on a Saturday night or Friday night on a long weekend. A few glasses of red goes down very well and it's good for you.

Just love these three day wekends :)
