I was just pondering last night in an awesome state of drunkenness, that the club definitely needs more girls! There has to be a fair few that ride those scooter-thingys that overcrowd uni. What I reckon is an e-mail sent out to all chicks in the club to turn up to a ladies fix it night where they can get greasy and fix bikes and stuff, with guys there to help them tinker and fix their scooters and bikes and stuff.

Stephen can crack out his pink polo with his popped collar :tugger::lol:, andrew can discuss how he keeps his hair so straight and shiny haha and i'll just lurk in the corner with my heavy metal, and of course give the ladies a hand and generally just add running commentary to the evening, ross can wow them with his intellect and ehab can wow them with his inability to spell. Hanne can be the friendly female mechanic, just don't work on any exhaust systems. Dave can woo them with his story of danger and adventure, of his scars from riding. Isaac can tell them of his misadventure too..as I heard it he was riding along when all of a sudden there was a baby in the middle of the road...he did what he needed to save the poor child but alas crashed in the process. Ewen can show of his spandex pants and Timati can show of his crashed bike *five hundred, thats my final offer! :Pokey:*. Chris can sit in the corner doing burnouts, and ej can well break down on the way there. Pocketcracker, well he'll probably end up going home with one of them within the first five minutes putting us all to shame and raj can show of his R6 *I want it*.

All in all a good night to be had, with brews, and boobs and bikes and bloody good heavy metal! Sooooo, who's keen?

Am sure Dushy can impress them with him lugging his hammer/spanner around and hoodie...Not. Don't think Pantera would go down too well:Pokey:. Am so going to bring better music next time and no it's not French rap.

Did you just say metal isn't music........i'll let you apologise to me in person next time i meet you banzai.......metal isn't music pfft, i appreciate all kinds of music and you as a music student should know that music has many forms and just because it is not the same as your classical/jazz etc does not mean it doesn't require skill to perform and passion to appreciate. I just happen to like metal the most.

as i have been infracted for speaking my mind on a PUBLIC forum i shall re-quote......

if you would like to socialise with persons of the female persuasion then it is my belief that locations such as float and lounge house many that are.......friendly......although all are welcome to the chiller i believe it should remain a kick back session for true bikers, with gender identity not being an issue.....it would suck to have the chiller turn into a date-maker night....

girls are always nice to have around but a time and place for everything.....

and metal is still an abomination but iron maiden rocks!!! 4 LEAD GUITARISTS SOLOING IN AMAZING SYNCHRONISATION :drool::drool::drool:

I do have to say Ross's sounds pumping out of his car was pretty sweet.

As for girls, we all know motorcycles has always connected better with the guys.

What we need do to is a bit of hype marketing and advertising. First, we gotta get my sexy bike and set it up to a new sign up stand outside the uni gym advertising 'girls needed for motorcycle promo'.

Then get them to try on some hot pants and bikini bras and sit them on my bike. If they look good then can proceed to the next part of the process. Just talk some bullshit about getting free rides on the back of the bike and getting popular...

Think you're onto something here fullas...

If I were a modern woman, I'd probably be a little uneasy around such a 'boys' night' atmosphere. If we really want to be more inclusive (ie more 'girls'), we'd better act in a more inclusive way.

(Thankfully, there's little chance of mistaking me for a modern woman - perhaps a cave-woman if the night was dark enough?)

A free scooter/bike safety check might go down well if advertised to the whole club? The woeful state of some of the 50cc scooters I see parked at Law School makes me cringe.

Hanne and Sophie have reasons other than bikes for being there - additionally, someone's gotta keep an eye on us and make sure nothing degenerates to 'Jackass' level!

As for the sounds - hopefully a one-off: I prefer the sweet booming of Mr Honda and Mr Yoshimura in duet  to the booming of Mr Infinity Kappa.

(If I must be stuck in the family wagon, I prefer Mr Infinity's booming to gridlock insanity - not generally Pantera, but was OK for a change. If I had to pick guitar driven sounds, it'd be the genius of Tool. On 9 days out of 10, give me the oonsting of DnB or breakbeats - yay for George and Up FM)

My lady would fit into the category of which you speak - she got that way after many years fighting and drinking with the Judo lads in the UK and loves to shock people by contrasting her sweet appearance with disturbing stories and anecdotes. (The AUSMC haven't seen much of this yet...)

Not all women are this way I realise - I didn't mean to imply that modern women are somehow delicate violets - but probably the majority of women would not feel comfortable with a 'boys' night' atmosphere. If we're genuinely looking to attrach more female participation, we may need to address that.

That all said - a boys' night is fine by me. I tend to moderate my behaviour around people that are unknown quantities.

The thread whilst posted in a piss takey way was indeed serious as to including more females in the clubs fix it night activities. I'm sick of girls being thought of as delicate, fuck it, send the e-mail out to the whole club, but it would be nice to see some more feminine participation in the club haha. Don't say there are no girls, I see heaps of girls on scooters at uni, here's hoping they are in the club. Fix it night will still be bike orientated but it's also a great chance to catch up and kick tires! An activity where the club can actually act like a club and have social interaction instead of wanky bitch slap threads on the net.

Club rides are great but half of motorcycling is the people you ride with and the atmosphere/camaraderie gained and I personally find actually talking and getting to know you tools in the club, having a beer and generally having a chill whilst still working on bikes is nice. Instead of a "I'll show up just to get my bike fixed" atmosphere.

As for metal music, it's a taste, like how some people like oysters, to me it tastes like boogers and looks like boogers. You don't like it, thats fine your opinion, just don't bag on people who do. Haha was just taking the piss with that comment timati :Pokey:, yeah that was an big penis I drew on your car. I'm sensible and all but I'm still young, and like being a tool sometimes.

Surely Stephen must have a number of girls actually in the club...? The club emails go out to EVERYONE's emails in the club, obviously they just aren't keen at all. I dunno whether ANY girls on scoots would join, why would they lol all they need is the throttle and brake and no gear and they're sweet! They're not exactly into "scootering", it's just a way of commuting.

I know there are at least a few girls who are members of the club and do ride motorbikes to uni, dunno why they don't come along?

Hell there must be more than the 20 or so of us usuals who are at fix-ups, rides, and chillers anyway, both girls and guys! If we can somehow make people feel more comfortable and welcome to come along it would be great yeah, then Stephen can have 20 bikes in his garage for slumber parties! Maybe another BBQ at Mission Bay or something? Sent out in the club email as a chance for all new members to come grab a banger and a bottle.

As for metal music... Would you like those oysters shoved in your face and be forced to eat them? I'm fine with a bit of metal, but not necessarily having it blasted down my ears when I'm just chilling out and (trying) to chat to people. :buggerd:

Personally I like mix cds with a bit for everyone :wari:

She is very... Independent at times. Kind of like a bossy 3 year old.
No, she should be patched up tomorrow though. Getting dust seals and fork seals from Red Baron in the afternoon.

Still thinking about the 'how to get ladies' part. Maybe a social bbq would be good. Think there are a lot of female scooter riders, we don't really cater for scooters atm, if we have an event like that they could feel part of things more. (Most of our fix-it nights etc. are very bike orientated. Because we all have bikes. Hell, I don't know what scooter riders like to do in their spare time!)

Oh yeah, Stephen said beofre how lots of people just use thme to commute, which is true. How many car drivers on here belong to a car club? or want to belong to a car club? That is probably part of it too, it is a get-there thing, not a 'hey, let's be friends!' thing.

I did actually wanted to join the "car club" but what they had in Auckland Uni was "pimp my ride" club. Not like pulling Corolla's 4A-FE apart and tune-up to see how far it can get close to 4A-GE spec, convert FX-GT to a Midship-Rearwheel drive etc...

first of all, if you wan't girls they aren't going to come for a fix it night

second, heavy metal appeals to some, but as awesome as it is it sounds like noise to the majority of people, so playing something a bit softer would be a wise move. just chuck some foo fighters on or something, and not so loud that it interferes with conversation. the likes of concorde dawn would go down well as it's a fair bit more socially acceptable than stuff like marylin manson and/or 50 cent.
heck make it kiwi music and throw on some shihad:punk:. play hip hop and i down tools 'till it's turned off:humpf:

I was just pondering last night in an awesome state of drunkenness, that the club definitely needs more girls! There has to be a fair few that ride those scooter-thingys that overcrowd uni. What I reckon is an e-mail sent out to all chicks in the club to turn up to a ladies fix it night where they can get greasy and fix bikes and stuff, with guys there to help them tinker and fix their scooters and bikes and stuff.

Can i just watch, and can they wear bikinis, and we need a paddling pool full of oil.

And lesbians, lots of lesbians.

Uuuummm, last time I checked lesbians are just like straight people, the only like the same sex as them... It doesn't mean that the like to get it on in front of guys... Just thought I'd let you know, you seem a bit confused  :bleh: hehe

Now, as for girls... Look I'm really sorry Dushy, but from the looks and sounds of that girl (presumably your ex gf) you were with the other week at shadows, the type of girl you want is probably not going to be the type that is into bikes. I know I'm stereotyping here, but to an extent I think lots of stereotypes are true....

And as for the music issue, Rob good idea for a mix CD. And as for metal being music... hm... I have to admit that most metal musicians are pretty damned talented, however, I think that majority of people find it very difficult to actually listen to and appreciate because of the way these talented musicians put their talents together. :calm:

Haha just saying it was pretty loud for the environment! Whatever music is good for me but not always keen for it to be pumping... We're chilling out, not clubbing!

When was metal made for clubbing? Haha

Since you're a women can you conjure up some ideas? Maybe like a 'bake a cake' get together or something?

But seriously do some fluff talk with your g/f and spread some words across Uni, something like talking about the virtues of having 2 wheels opposed to 4.

YAY!!! :woohoo: Howbout Bossa? Stan Getz?

Since you're a violin virtuoso Yugi, next time we have one of these get togethers, bring your violin and a few muso friends and whip out a rhapsody and woo those sexy things.

first of all, if you wan't girls they aren't going to come for a fix it night

finally, why not just have another beach bbq get-together at okahu or mission bay? that last one was a very well orgaised and fun event that would probably attract more girls than a shed night

Thing is, we want tight hot intelligent women with a bit class, none of those metal loving black hair dying/eye lining from out west. Perhaps we should start dressing up like Issac?

A thing like Okahu bay could definitely work, maybe even in the Auckland Domain or Conrnwall Park (One Tree Hill).

Like most things in life you gotta work for it, so if you want hot women, you gotta work it.

Believe it or not I don't plan on picking any girls up at a fix it night, It could be just me but I acutually enjoy interacting with the opposite sex, and people can't just say "oh girls don't like bikes". Maybe extending the welcome to a UNI SMC organised fix it day for all female and male bikers who need work done on their bike, where all can lend a hand. Participation shall be by registration so we know who is coming and an invite can then be sent out, this prevents gatecrashers and dicks who think they can just turn up and demand work done. It's an occasion of mutual help and just a good time to chill out and catch up with friends. I dunno maybe i'm just wierd with the whole wanting to know how the opposite sex feels about biking and making some female bikers friends on top of the good female/male ones I have already made *hanne, no working on exhausts for you! hehe i'll never let you live that one down*. God you would think talking to girls is a crime the way that you guys put it and that motorcyclists who ride for pleasure and because they love motorcycles within the uni area that don't have a penis is just an urban myth, a thing that doesn't happen. Oh and girls who like metal don't necessarily need to be westie stereotypes! Judging people by stero types is what causes a fuck load of problems nowadays. Next time I turn up to a chiller in my hoodie and beanie you guys better watch out, cos i just might mug you cos as we all now brown people with that sort of clothing usually are bad people :Pokey:.

Just an open chilled out environment where people can meet, and the majority of talk will be on bikes anyway. People may discuss problems with their bikes and this could lead onto a fix-it day the next week or so where those people will turn up and help will be at hand.

Laingholm fishing club FTW! Fire up some of those beasts in Stevo's garage and hoon about on the Manukau mud flats with the donut-making 1970's Westie falcons!

To be fair - the car with sounds was there for everyone - Dushy only made use what was there. I'll happily listen to Pantera for a while, as I'll listen to anything (except for the worst excesses of commercial radio) There was plenty of other discs in the wagon. Next time (should I have the misfortune of being cage-bound) will be using line-in with the powerbook and inviting MP3 cds or flash drives.

I could always borrow a Volvo with a Panama hat on the parcel shelf and crank the RNZ Concert while we indulge in Dushy's suggestion of cups of tea and bowls (bet some of the old boys in rest homes have great bike stories from back-in-the-day)

...On second thoughts, the cost to motorcyclists in fear and maiming of using such a vehicle would be unacceptable. Fear the hat-driver!

Biking takes all sorts - look at KB as a whole. We do need to engage our brains if we want to be more attractive to a cross-section of the university scooterists and motorcyclists. I'll turn up to anything that centres on two wheels personally - Ponsonby, Drury, anywhere!

Last I checked it'd be a dozen big-bots in the swappa crate. Crates might be handy for fork oil changes.

I'm old, and I've done my quota of crate days (daze?) at the Gardies in Dunedin.

A couple of quarts is all good, but I'd rather neck a few boutique-brewed masterpieces and wank on about how it was "in my day..." (:tugger: I know...) and mock you all from a safe corner as carnage unfolds.

What does this have to do with cunning plans to attract more members of the female persuasion? :Offtopic:

Surely a "Vodka Cruiser box-day" would go down better?:devil2:

Well, that's sorta borderline lukewarm hot.

Hot as in having a hot face and a tight body.

But definitely having a sweet attitude and a affectionate nature comes first.

I don't mind having one at my place. Have a reasonably sized front & back yard. Could start off with poker & BBQ style gathering. Good music.

If we decide to hold a rave, there had better not be any damage to the place ... or ... else I'll have to bring out the shotgun and go all trigger happy haha.

OMG PARTY AT TIMATI'S HOUSE

You're SOOOOO jealous bro :devil2: as well as having a reason to slate all medders as dorks...

Have you spent any time at law school lately? It's mooting time, so plenty of baby lawyers are dressed in their formal finest - very corporate, very niiiiiiiice.... That goes for any ladies wanting to spot some male talent in suits too. No good when one's trying to do opinions though :crybaby:

Yeah mate its sweet but that dork thing is all lies! Most my class are always partying hard!

Based on the medders I knew at Otago, that'd be an accurate assessment - they sure knew how to party hard as well as geek hard (Though that's mainly in Healthsci 1)

Err.. well look at the front wheel. See that cable hanging freely and not connected to anything? That's not meant to be not connected to anything.. as most cables need to be connected to something in order to do what thye're meant to do (get the theme?)

There should be a port for it *somewhere* around the middle of the wheel somewhere. Can't be more precise then that without actually looking at it.. it should be quite obvious. All you have to do is screw it back in..

The screws probably vibrated out so you'll need to replace that. Drop me or pretty much anyone if you get lost and they'll sort it out easy as.

There are two chicks that attend the friday night chilla and such club events, but they are both taken.

Now i'd say something witty here but i ain't a very good comedian, so i'll leave it up to one of the residents funny guys.

All i'll say is that if you do come to one of the club functions, the last thing any of the guys will want is to scare you away. They may look like this  for a while as they dont get to close to females that often, but if you start talking about bikes they will be back in their element again and normal converstaion will resume.

yes we do, but only see two of them on a regular basis though.... then there's a few extra girlfriends who we see from time to time (including mine, macstar's and phurrball's)

considering we've only really got about 20 active members, and you'll be lucky to see more than 10 of them at the chiller, 20% girls isn't too bad... it's about that in every other bar in auckland on a friday night anyway!

basically just watch out for dushi... he's recently broken up with his gf and is on the prowl after 2 years of monogamy (thus this thread was spawned)

the more the merrier.. i'm sure if we get enough girls we'll hit some critical mass whereby girls start coming without having being dragged their by the boyfriends

just make sure she doesn't talk about landrovers... or any 4wd for that matter - every time i hear a 4wd getting talked about it's after someone either had a near miss or nasty accident<_<

Anyways I think us women....well ok I speak for myself
are here.....we lurk. When we need help we ask, as I have myself asked some very awesome KBERS with help on pannier racks and self servicing (get ya mind out the gutter) We have many very strong women representing on the site and tend to find our own circles cause as women in a mostly mans world thats how we flow. I think a chicks "night" fix er uperer woulda attract a some what different type. Trust me we are here watching listening and contributing in our own way........ima play the devils advocate here too and start some shit............ Is a female scooter rider the same a s a motorbike rider? While there will be some comparisons.......there are scooter rider s who LOVE riding, as i myself started at 15 but some do it to get to uni cheap......*I do not like to be called out in the same category unless scooter girl can come with the passion. Its like me asking a scooter boy and a buel rider their opinions on the ride around coroloop............anyways good thought, nice idea but youll find most motorbike women find their own help and fixerupper cause of who we are. If we need we seek cause to get to motorbike statusn wasnt easy and we HAD to ask, it didnt come easy,,,,,,which is why we ride. sooo ahhhhh PS anyone got cheap triumph sprint backtires?

why specifically a *female* scooter rider?

my neighbour (Santa Claus lookalike) owns the biggest, gruntiest scooter i have ever seen. he duckwalks it every weekend down the driveway to take it for a spin. it's the most glorified scooter: definitely over 150cc. however would not describe it as a motorcycle by any means. who cares, as long it gives you a thrill.

She'll also know you by the fact that you're the only club member without a working motorcycle.

lol, bit rich considering at the time of posting, you yourself was without bike and had been for 5 weeks:bleh:

(jeez dushi learn to make a proper comeback!)

why specifically a *female* scooter rider?

my neighbour (Santa Claus lookalike) owns the biggest, gruntiest scooter i have ever seen. he duckwalks it every weekend down the driveway to take it for a spin. it's the most glorified scooter: definitely over 150cc. however would not describe it as a motorcycle by any means. who cares, as long it gives you a thrill.

Was searching forums about GN250 and find your post and her post (actually this is the thread you have started http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=60438)

Do what I did -

Give up on women completely.

The only way is to let love find you - worked for me. Shortly after this decision, a hot blondie walked into the café where I was waiting to give my flattie a lift home.

She looked at me, I looked at her - the rest is history.

Why don't we do Free BBQ at Quad or in front of Kate Edgar with 5-10 SMC bikes parked up nicely polished and sign-up stand, so that people do get attention?(I know someone have suggested earlier)

Maybe we will get bunch more of guys but we could get some attention from girls if we:

Park 2 or 3 Vespa and cute looking bike/scooter -Cub, Monkey, Street magic etc (preferbly in Pink, Red, Green, Sky Blue or something COLOUFUL)

Also 250cc big scooter (alternative to "MT" bikes, I assume most girls prefer AUTO)

*Hanne must be at the sign-up stand during the event. If we can convince Rie also that would be great as well (because it might be more approachiable when there is one or two girl who rides a bike) :p

Does anyone's girl-friend rides sccoter to uni(who have good knowledge of Scooter and riding experience -probly none, yea I'm just taking my chance)? Ask her to stay at the stand as well for Scooter related questions(we may need more than box of chocolate for her for reward...)

Have you guys seen a free mag in uni called "SCOOT and commute"? that mag is trying to convince girls to scoot so if we can do something with them it might be a good idea.

I think the first intention of this thread was to get more Girls member so that people can socialise with more variety of people and not to make match making club for single guys who own a motorbike :p

Then someone would probly say "but motorbiking used to be men's hobby, hard for girls to get into blah blah" and then we go back to the beggining of this thread for never ending discussion....

Gee that took me while to type... I so have no life!!!

Umm...... Can anyone teach me English, what's "second" mean??? I know about First, Second, Third... but it's got different meaning right?

Yep - Formal meeting protocol/rules: To 'second' is a formal way of saying you support a 'motion' (an idea) in a meeting.

The 'motion' is 'moved' by the person that came up with the idea, a 'seconder' supports it, and it is voted on by everyone at the meeting, and if there is enough support, it is 'carried' - so the group agree to carry out the motion/idea.

It's weird eh?

For example - Committee on the colour of the environment:

Person A: "I move that the sky is green!" (Mover of motion)

Chair of meeting: "Who will second that motion?"

Person B: "I second that the sky is green!" (Seconder of motion = supporter of person A's idea)

Chair: "All in favour please say 'aye'."

Lots of people all at the same time: "Aye, aye, aYe"

Chair: "All opposed?"

People: (just a few in this example - but could be many) "Nae!"

Chair: "Any abstentions?" (People who choose not to agree or disagree abstain)

Chair: "Motion carried, the sky is now green!"

If the 'Ayes' and the 'naes' sound the same, a count may be taken, some motions may be voted on in a secret ballot (pieces of paper put in a box)

There are more strange words to do with meetings too. All to do with making sure ideas have the necessary support of enough people.

It's all part of the alien language of administration and government.

I hope that makes sense??:second:
