Nolan N102

Been looking for a decent flip front and the one at the top of the list at present is the Nolan N102.
Fit's my bonce good - unlike some.
Done a few searchs here and apart from one or two experiencing a plastic cover falling off there doesn't seem to be any real negative crtisism.
Those who own one - what's the wind noise like? Does the outer tinted sun visor cause any wind noise in any of the positions at all? Can you remove this item if you desire? Any fogging issues? I have mixed thoughts about the strap fastening mechansim but i'd probably get used to it.

I love my nolan .. no noise issues for me .. you can remove sun visor without a problem they provide the clasps to put on instead ... no fof problems with the pinlock anti fog thing. All round a really good helmet.

I love mine. It is a noisy helmet in my opinion, but I wear molded ear plugs anyway, plus if I listen to music with my 'in ear' style buds, it isn't a problem either. Sun visor comes off easily. The anti fog works brilliantly. Being a flip up, it is easy to do up the chin strap.

they're a little on the heavy side but it never bugged me (just get used to it)
anti-fog system in them is magnificent, almost impossible to create condensation
i just binned in mine and it stood up very well, it took a fair wallop and has grazes across the head and face (so its going in the trash) but amazingly, everything still works perfectly
just out iof interest, are you planning on buying locally or off ebay? you can bring them in for about $350 kiwi which is a lot better than $599 here!

Nope, not on mine and I use it at half-mast mostly which is great. You can pull it down to stop just above the eyes. In that position it blocks the sun but your vision is using the clear underneath.


Can you remove this item if you desire?
Yes but I've never needed or wanted to.


Any fogging issues?
The helmet comes standard with a pin-lock anti fog innner visor. It works better than anything else I have ever tried.


I have mixed thoughts about the strap fastening mechansim but i'd probably get used to it.
It's the best I've ever used. The strap and D-ring system always comes loose. Loose helmets are dangerous. The Nolan strap adjusts to the level of firmness that you need at any time. Sometimes you have no scarf or balaclava - and the helmet is still tight. Put on a thick winter neck-warmer and a scarf - you don't need to adjust anything, just clip it on. Brilliant AND safe is my summary.

Of course with teh N102 you can also add the basic comms package which gives you mic and headphones built into the helmet. Into that using the multi-media cord, CB radio and radar detector

but being technology geeks we have the full bluetooth set up ... can use our phones when on the road with voice activated dialling etc etc .. and just keep each other awake on long rides!

I find mine noisey but think that that may be in part due to bike fairing shape and rider size etc. do love my lid tho, specially the flip part of it. i do use the sun visor part often.

its a really good helmet.

Not the quietest helemt in the world, but you get that with flip face.

I really like mine. I think i'd only get another one when getting a new helemet, although ive seen a helmet that has a suglass onthe inside, that looks cool :)

I have had mine for almost a year now. Very happy with it and would recommend to anyone else. Less than half NZ price from eBay.com.

One comment: If you want to use the comms, it cost a lot to add it later and you would be far better off buying the helmet complete with the BlueTooth stuff already installed.

I was concidering a purchase from the good ol US via ebay but I'm a little worried about warantee /after sales service if anything goes wrong with it.

yeah fair call, but when you can just about buy 2 ex-USA for the price you pay for 1 here.....i've had good experiences buying overseas but im sure there are a few out there who've been bitten

i bought my wife and I helmets off ebay (after a fair bit of research) and ended up paying about $580 for what you'd pay $1000 for here

my new helmet (arriving soon) cost me $335, here; $650-$670

if the discrepancies weren't quite so obscene i probably would buy local but the markup is pretty extreme IMO, and the range is far superior as well

I just purchased a N102 with blue tooth and Basic kit... total price was under $700 including shipping and GST.

I bought this gear from Motorcycles International. you can order from them Via E-Bay or direct from there website.

Everything turned up exactly as described, took 10 days but NZ customs had it for three of those days.

I find the helmet is much quieter than my FFM full face.

I pair my phone to my Zumo 550 and then pair the zumo with the helmet to enable hands free calling both incomming and out going, Audio instructions from the GPS and Music from the Zumo's built in MP3 player.

With the volume on about 1/3 I cannot hear any hemet noise
I was surprised at how little volume is required at open road speeds

I VPS visor does not seem to create any noticable noise wether up or down, however the main visor does create a bit more noise when cracked open on the first notch, but not enough to annoy me or anyone on the other end of the phone.

The quality is good and I like it very much.

One thing to remember is that technology doesn't stand still and Nolan have just started to produce the next generation helmet called the N103-N-com.

I found this out after I purchased otherwise I may have waited.

Also the bluetooth music is mono not stereo. but the next generation of A2DP Blue tooth protocals is Stereo.

My advice is to check this out before you purchase a N102.

If like me you cant wait then I'm sure you wont be dissapointed with a N102

My last N102 cost $341 (incl shipping) and took 5 days from USA. My latest N102 arrived today and cost $250. Well I paid $250 and the insurance company paid $349. :innocent:

Now all I need is a cheap place for the bluetooth kit.

I have a small mobile phone BlueTooth device that works fairly well however is not very comfortable.

well I took the chance and ordered one from imotorcycle.com and am pleased with the result.
Good communication with them and it took about 8 days to get to me from the US. Best part is I saved myself about $250 over buying it local. I am all for supporting the local guy whenever I can but they must have a rediculous markup on them. can't afford to ignore these prices.
Helmet is good - not sure about the sun visor yet though - give it a while.
