Called into the Junior MX champs for an hour yesterday at Otorohanga, on the way home from climbing Mt Pureora (Too knackered to go riding today, but definitely recommend it for a good workout....)
Have to say that watching NZ's best young riders was quite an eye opener, the three races we stayed for were a wonderful spectacle, very fast, close racing and on a track that had had a huge amount of preparation put into it, rates as one of the best I've ever seen, hope todays rain doesn't stuff it up for them.....
Didn't see any pushy parents either (and I was looking....)
Great atmosphere, well done guys and gals......

Oh, and $10 a car load for spectators, coupled with signs on the gates with the admission prices listed is what stopped us driving past.

Can someone explain why there's a Honda only race? Sponsorship deal or something?

150cc Four-stroke class, Honda is the only one to produce a 150cc at the moment.

Come home early, got a severe fever :(

Wow wee, lots of upsets after this event. Wonder if the rain played part on the second and third day (was meant to pour down, and the clay surface).

Henry Madams, 2nd to Ethan Martens (wow) in the 250f class, though credit to Ethan, he was looking really good on the Friday.

Tom Managh 3rd in 12-14yr 125cc class, he wasn't looking good at all on Friday so I'm not surprised there. He seems to have pulled out of the 250f class too.

Keiran Leigh 2nd in the 15-16yr 125cc class, he was having rotten luck from the first race, falling on the whoops and letting 2nd get through just before the checkered flag!

Surprise of the weekend, Haki Waller 2nd in the 85cc 11-12yr class. He's a great rider, just not consistant enough, until now! Now if I can stop hating him for biffing huge dirt lumps down the hill and them smacking me hard in the back of the thigh.

i think you are being a bit unfair on Ethan, i would have picked him for the 125's over Kerian, although i only found out today he had cahnged to KTM's, you tend to like the guys you see race most often tho,

as for the Haki, i new Brandon would be fast, sounds like a good weekend there,

I do have my favorites, and I was commenting what I saw briefly from the first thing that came off the top of my head, which is generally about the people I know :)

P.S. I'm still quite new to the MX industry, so I am still trying to pick up on all the riders who are contenders. I am just working of what I've seen for the last couple of years at the events I've attended

I wondered what happened to you Drew??

I take my hat off to Ethan, he works for us in our workshop and I can tell you it was his decision to move so close to the Nats, both bikes were stock, just after market exhausts. He put himself under some real pressure as his old man did not want him to change so close as he had a package to do it on Yamaha. He pulled it off tho!!

Full credit to Kieran - He told me his head was in Aussie - its a shame that news about his ride there was given so close, it did distract him.

Time for changes in the Junior nats now, way to many riders (which is good) you should have to qualify from now on and the clubs need to expect the worse conditions possible, and get rid off the F@#KEN peg draws!

Hey Drew thats a mint shot of Henry Madams. I agree with Ricey think it needs to be maybe a month earlier for weather reasons. Mind you it did find the champion as it had all conditions. And thanks Scotty Brandons so stocked about the title after the flat tyre last year. Hey Ricey does less entries mean less people which means less atmosphere?

I agree with you Troy in regards to the atmosphere - we need the numbers - a month earlier could do the trick however as you say, the conditions brought through the true champions.

Yeh, I was gutted too.

My head wasn't clear on Friday, I forgot to say I have the same remote trigger for my flash now so we could of had some fun with two remote flashes (extra omph)
