well my Viffer is givving me a bit of trouble.
The fuel tap is a turn knob kind mounted in the fairing.
from the knob run 2 cables back to the tank where the real fuel tap is.
2 questions.
1) mine seems to be stuck-it dont turn--is this common and where is it usuall stuck.
2) which tap position is on -off and reserve--the previous owner had the bike painted and no tap positions are noted

Remember having that problem with my old 1990 VFR750 as well. Did ask a honda shop and they did tell me. Oh and you can end-up with the cables on back to front as well. I have a printed copy of the manual for in as well as one on a PDF file (I could burn that to a CD-RW and post it to you). Free to you frosty, if you want them.

It would be cool if it was the same bike as I had just service the White Power rear shock 10,000Km's before droping it of the ute:argh: Plate was 65UST and the VIN/Chassis no. was 7A88G011102000562. I was the first NZ owner for it.

Fuel Tap, I think I can remember it had to point forward for on and backward for res (but the best bet is to carry a jerry can and run it until she cuts out).

By the time they got to my model they dropped the tap off the side and it runs an electric fuel pump like a car. Only tap is a simple on-off job attached to the tank, which you can't see normally, so you can turn the fuel off if you want to remove the tank.

Hope you get yours sorted.

Dropped in @ Frosty's the way back from MR's ride Sun. Noticed the VFR in the shed. First give away was the Honda Red Riders Club sticker on the mud guard (just where & how I had put it). Next was the anti-rub sticker in the tank and tail (for where my bags went). Finally, the White Power rear shock was a dead give away.
Bugger me, it's "Veronnica", my old 1990 VFR750:banana:
Well I hope you get her up and running again. Must give you her service history (still have the receipts). Also have her old side fairings. If you are lucky, I'm drop them off this Fri on the way to or back from the Drag Wars.

No, I don't now about any other spill she's had, but the the drop from the ute was my own fault. She treated me alrigth when I rode her. Don't blame the bike, blame the rider.

More than you could amagine, Gav. That was one dodgy deal. Had a long chat with Tony (Frosty) last night about my old VFR. You see that guy is trying to past off a home repair bike as a newly imorted used bike (major differience). Also it appears that the speed may have been rewound. It goes a little like this:

16/01/2004
I was loading my VFR on my flatdeck ute to take to Cyclespot for them to service the bike with 70000Km showing on the speedo (I get a shop to do very 10000Kms and I do the 5000Km myself). Because I had not sercured the ramp properly and because I rode it up, the ramp give way. This caused the bike to slide down the back end of the ute and land on it's back wheel (with me still on top with the bike still in gear and the motor running). It was so close to tipping over on top of me, but ended up falling onto it's left hand side. This smash the upper fairring (and the light housing), left side fairring, left mirror, and clutch handle. The insurance decided to right the bike off as they had valued the damage at $4000/4500 and the bike at $4500 pre accident (FMI claim no.7217444).
4/02/2004
I got a call of my insurance saying that the bike had gone at auction for $1450.
Now somewhere between then and Tony buy it, it has appeared to have lost a few Km's.
I'll let Tony take the story from hear, but the morals for this story are:

Don't trust anyone when you are buying a bike. Do a check on it (this is a good site http://www.motorweb.co.nz/public/, $25 and only takes seconds).
If you are selling a bike and being dodgy, be warned. Bikers talk to each other and old owners can reconise they bikes fairly easily (special if there is something different with the mechanical side). There are some pretty dangerous bikers out there that would not be shy of giving you a good smacking over if they fould that you had ripped them off. So in short didn't do it, beside the life of the next rider may depend on knowing what has happen to that bike in the past.
