I've had a couple of broken wrists. It sure took me a long time to recover from them. Seems to be one thing after another for Ben.

Kiwi News: Updates on Townley and Cooper

We've been hearing and reading rumors online about another Ben Townley injury, so we decided to go straight to the source and find out what's going on with the sidelined Honda Red Bull Racing factory rider who is set to join the AMA Motocross class when the 2008 AMA Toyota Motocross Championships start up in three weeks. BT101 has been working out down in Tallahassee, Florida, after being forced off the bike with an ankle injury that cost him the chance to wear #1 in the Lites East division of the 2008 Monster Energy AMA Supercross tour. Lately though he's been riding and rehabbing the ankle. When we called, Ben was actually with his trainer doing some altitude training. He admits that he dinged himself up a bit but nothing serious, just normal training issues. He is more than ready to get back to racing and is looking forward to Glen Helen (where he won his last MX race) and making his Honda debut. You can keep up with Ben and his training at www.bentownleymx.com. He also promises that he will be updating his BT blogs soon so you can follow his 2008 summer there.

As for the latest on fellow Kiwi Cody Cooper, last year's late-season surprise is also up to speed in getting ready for the whole series. Cody has been riding with Ben down in Tallahassee. "CBC 902" is also looking forward to the first national and finally getting back to racing, and he has some exciting news that will be announced shortly, so stay tuned.

Finally, Ben is going to start up his Racer X Illustrated column BT101 again in the next issue, so stay tuned!

Red Bull Honda's Ivan Tedesco has fully recovered from a serious hand injury and is 100% ready for the intense summer action. "I've been working hard and I feel like I am totally prepared for the nationals to begin," said Tedesco.

Red Bull Honda teammate Ben Townley is also slated to make his return at Glen Helen after wrist and ankle problems, giving the team a full squad of riders with Andrew Short and Davi Millsaps coming off a successful string of races to close out the supercross season.

would be mint having a ride there (not competing obviously but they're tracks look pretty mack!
If Bubba can stay injury free for the whole season it's his but that's quite a hard ask haha. By far my favourite rider (even when ricky was riding) just because he's a bloody nutcase. Always doing something that makes you go "Whoa holy shit did you see that" which is what he goes for anyway.

Be cool to see BT out there again. Does SKY TV get these events?

A Report Today:

Stewart was a full second faster than the next-quickest rider, Honda Red Bull’s Andrew Short. Stewart’s best time around the long and fast track was two minutes and 42.278 seconds. Short, who looked aggressive on his Honda, turned in a 2:43.294. Third fastest was Alessi with a 2:44.135, followed by Jeff Alessi, Tim Ferry, Steve Boniface, Cody Cooper, Byrne, Millsaps and Tedesco, who were all in the second session with slightly better (drier) track conditions.

Ben Townley was 31st quickest, but he’s not riding at 100 percent. Townley recently crashed while practicing at home and is riding with a sore shoulder and wrist.

Press release:

Townley endures painful Hangtown Motocross Classic.

Factory Red Bull Honda’s Ben Townley has experienced another setback in his 2008 AMA Motocross campaign. The 23-year-old New Zealander took a big tumble in one of the Saturday practice sessions at round two of the series near Sacramento, California.

Townley was diagnosed with a chipped right ankle bone but was cleared to ride two grueling 30 minute + 2 lap motos on Sunday after he put in a gutsy performance to qualify 12th.

Soaring temperatures and rough track conditions certainly put riders to the test as Moto 1 got underway with Townley grabbing a reasonable start and positioning himself in the top ten. ‘BT’ rode through the pain to claim 8th spot by the end of the moto.

A slightly better start in moto 2 saw the number 101 Red Bull Honda have to deal with a charging Tim Ferry and Mike Alessi in the opening stages. Townley slotted into his race rhythm, trying not to take any extra risks, as he chased fellow Honda team-mate Davi Millsaps and privateer Steve Boniface to the flag.

“This is not how I want to be racing but I have to deal with it and keep the ball rolling,” explained Townley. “The last few weeks have been really testing both physically and mentally but I’ve been able to overcome the setbacks and I’ll be looking forward to Texas and getting my body healed.”

Townley heads back to his home base in Tallahassee Florida to prepare for the 3rd round of the AMA Nationals at Freestone County Raceway in Wortham, Texas on the 7-8 June.
