Lets you check out k's, make & model etc. Can purchase the 'full report' with security interests (money owing?) and details of current owner for $10. Very reasonable.

Can find out about the Odometer etc for free - the best bit. I immediately ran all our vehicles through it, and saw mum's car has been wound back

Cool site, interesting, my old NC30 apparently had half its mileage wound off the odometer back in 98. I never even suspected! Goes to show you should really check out any vehicle you buy properly.

Good thing my current bike checks out ok, mind you I did have a check done when I bought it.

My latest (NZ new) vehicle shows 148,000km on it's first WoF check, then a 129,000km drop in kms on the next check.I'm taking that as an incorrect first entry,as it had dealer servicing for over 200,000kms.

Cheers for the link not bad, and yay my mileage checks out.

According to the stats ive done an average of 16kms/day - pretty sad really. I must get out for more rides.

VERY useful site.

Checked up all my old bikes, all still on the road even my written off GN250. I pity the sucker who ended up with that!

Any idea how you get odo readings corrected in the database? My cage dropped 70km's between sitting its wof and passing its wof a week or so later. .. obviously a typo.

Thank you Joliet, There are a lot of cases like yours (Recorded Milage jumping up 200,000km+ in the space of 6 months). At the moment carfax cannot change the values -- as we simply sources it from the government databases where information had been put by authorized people. Those authorised people do make mistakes. What may come live at our website is user generated content where users will be able to comment on certain aspects of the vehicles :)

In other words, sorry -- we cannot do anything at the moment. Maybe you need to call LTSA up?

Kind Regards, Anton

Because the government use lab chimps doing the data entry I wouldn't trust it's accuracy 100%.

I would say, just use it as a guide.

It's info that's already out there and prettily easily available (we use MotoChek at work), but the bonus here it's free and the mileage info is easy to see at a glance.

Many thanks for the link! My old CX500 looks to have been wound back 97000kms.... It sorta makes sense given what I had to work on it - although the change of ownership papers didn't reflect the indiscrepancy.

Yeah it would be an awesome site if it didn't say my odometer jumped up 200,000km in a year!

Reading - Date - Source or reason - Average usage, /day
248,003 - 2003, January 21st - WOF inspection - 610.35
23,393 - 2002, January 18th - WOF inspection - 4.24

Someone please explain to me how someone could input that into a computer without thinking something was wrong with the reading :spanking:

(For the record, it's currently sitting at about 27,654)

As Romeo quoted earlier though, they can't do diddly squat about it. :weep:

When it says "Imported Built-Up" it does not mean it was imported damaged, it means it was imported already build up with with k's on it. Basically anything not NZ new...

My bike which is a Japanese import says Imported Built-Up, but i really dont know if it was damaged or not, im guessing it wasnt. My mates bike says Imported Built-Up as well and that was imported and defently not damaged. My old BMW was NZ new and it doesn't say anything under "Assembly Type."

No, it'll be like that NZ new or not. If you're selling a Honda brand-new, it's not produced here, is it -- it's made in Japan (well at least my one was), so it'll be listed as `Imported Built-Up'.

My BMW was built in Germany and sold here NZ new, but it doesnt say Imported Built Up. Then again, one of my parents cars is the same but it does say imported built up. i dont think its that accurate...

Imported built up just means it was assembled overseas and was imported into NZ as a finish product (which is in most cases be it NEW or USED). My 1997 Honda Civic says it was assembled in NZ which is right. The rest were imported built up

Only way to tell if it is a used import is the part that says if it was registered overseas and caused of registration part if it says USED means it was an used import of it says NEW then it was imported NZ New.

Gosh my Honda Accord in the miscellaneous information part has a note saying "unreliable odometer". Been driving that car for 6 years and it has been the most reliable car I had. Gosh I love Honda's...they last forever :devil2:

It's not that carfax site wot is giving you inaccurate odo details -- it's the dicky WoF testers who don't punch the details into the computer correctly. Fer'instance, here's my bike -- notice the most recent number, 68,052kms. I'd put a new speedo on a month or two before, which was brand new and zeroed out. At the time of the WoF check it showed 8,052kms. The WoF tester said `oh, that's a new speedo -- that'll show up on the WoF check and it'll look like you've clocked it past 100,000kms, people won't want to buy it'. I told him I couldn't really give a shit, I won't be selling it if I can help it, but... well the numbers he typed in are not what was on the speedo.

Perhaps he thought he was doing me a favour? Local garage.

Mine shows the R80G/S appears to have gone round the clock twice, which is once more than expected and not a concern as it runs like a swiss watch and should be good for double whats it's done so far at least. The 3rd decrease is due to the odo being replaced as the glass was smashed.

It gets more confusing as the new odo is in miles, but the original readings I don't know about. I think they are km's as it was imported privately from Germany.

I suspect some of the other bikes reported on here as wound back in fact also went round the clock. As most bike odo's are only 5 digits that wouldn't show and would appear at face value as if they had been wound back.

this carfax site is shit, it shows my bike has had a mystery WOF 8 days after it already got one, and in that time it had travelled 86546km. they have a "is this info correct" contact thing, so i emailed them and told them, but all they say is that sombody has entered the data wrong and they cant change it, so whats the fuckin point of giving people the option to report incorrect information?

i would hate to pay for the reports only to find they are full of bullshit as well!!!

One one hand they ask the rhetorical question - is the odometer reliable? and a few lines into the odo readings they proceed to answer it - seemingly in the negative...!

Mind you - April till October '07 I WAS a bit of a legend on the RF clocking up 4,285 KMs/day...! That's 178.5kph on average foer the whole 6 month period!

Anyone got questions about the RF's reliability now??? huh? HUH???

LOL!

This has been up on KB twice now.

The dodgy figures in the report aren't from Carfax -- they come directly from the main LTSA/LTNZ/LTWTF database. So when you go from 70,000kms to 770,000kms then back to 80,000kms, this is a result of your WoF tester (or whoever typed it into the computer) misreading your speedo and adding an extra zero on the end.

That's also the reason why Carfax can't change the data; it's not their database to modify.

It's only beta right now; I think it future versions they plan to have a local correction matrix -- so when you tell them this information is incorrect, they'll show the original (official!) LTSA data (showing 770,000kms), but then right next to it they'll show `this figure has been marked as incorrect by one of our users, and should instead be 77,000kms'.
