"I wouldnt ride a bike because only lesbians do"

is this a common thought within the female straight variety?

The only comment I have to make is that the average female doesn't have sex with other females anywhere near often enough, and anything that encourages such behaviour, like motorcycling, should be promoted relentlessly.

This assertion of fact means that both Mrs H and I are lesbians. So that's OK then. I had actually thought for a while that this may have been the case. Now my suspicions are confirmed.

Well look at the amount of them on here lol

I have found the only straight ones are those with bf's or ex bf's who have got them into it.

Or parents from a young age, apart from scooter riders the ones who generally start themselves i find are lesbians lol

It's nice.

Whats nicer is following nicksta hanging her ass off around taupo (not a lesbian)

Well, I don't really know what the answer could be here...I'm a Mum, but I'm also a biker, and was one before I had my son.

My sexuality is my own alone, but I can definitely say it had no impact whatsoever on my early desire to ride bikes.

However, as was said earlier, I was introduced to bikes from very young by my Dad.

Never heard of that one.... Sounds like the whole earing in the left/right ear thing (can't remember so i just got both done).

Although at first the thought of lesbian chicks is appealing, as a couple of my lesbian friends remind me, it means they have NO interest in guys.... So how much fun is that?

Exactly! I do wonder if this mentality has anything to do with cultural influences...my point: it has never ever crossed my mind that I'd be seen as gay because I ride a bike. Where I come from, heaps of women ride and I have never really come across it as a gay stigma.

I guess the fact that my mum also rode and still remained the very feminine petite redhead that she is all at the same time made me see this as a possibility.

You have hit it right on the head. New Zealanders are sexually insecure, particularly male New Zealanders, and they resort to casting slurs at homosexuals in much the same way as witch doctors cast spells at demons. One day we will grow up (he said, hopefully).

Growing up is often highly overrated...However, I do understand what you mean.

But I have a bit of a doubt that the slur casting is solely resting on the shoulders of the "insecure male ego"...

I know of a few Kiwi females having pure acid dripping out their lips at the mention of bikeriding females, especially when said Hussies were to attend bike rallies where the husbands would be spending the weekend.

So I guess some of them might find it a cunning way to keep their hubbies out any imaginary mischiefs they might be enclined to get into by advocating that all women who ride have got to be batting for the other team...Either that, or it is a way for them to have some sort of peace of mind in their own paranoid little bitchy world.

Got to agree here, too much assuming and bigottry goes on in this country. There was a time while I was doing my nursing training that many assumed that I was gay, just because I wanted to be a nurse. Kinda came to a head one day when another friend who was in my class, married and had 2 kids was asked to do a presentation to about 50 7th form high school lads. The first question was, are you guys gay or don't you worry that everyone thinks that your gay? My friend explained his family situation and then I followed it up with "well if I'm gay would soneone explain the pregnant wife at home then"??? Never was an issue after that and looking back on it, perhaps the ones doing the wondering was also wondering about themselves...

Obviously your work mate has an issue, perhaps she is a tad interested but wont admit it who knows.

I managed to read part way through and Scummy summed it up who cares about your sexuality etc..

Sometimes I forget how bias and bigoted we Kiwis as a generalisation are, personally one of my best mates years ago was a stark raving homosexual, we knew what our relationship was and noting stopped him being a top bloke (all be it in high heels, fark that was funny), through him I meet a few in that community and some of the lesbians were the funniest women I have ever known, trying to avoid stereo types etc, mind you this was the 80's and for males at least there were legality issues. Sorry got a train of thought going there.

To the op you cant win with some folks but there is a hell of a lot of us who don't give a toss just that you like bikes, pink, green or blue. I will talk to you and give anyone the respect they deserve until they prove they are unworthy, there are plenty of females here who are not gay but ride, point your silly bigoted workmate in that direction if she could handle being wrong and proved a silly twit.

I have some lesbian friends and they don't ride bikes.

I also know a MILF or two, and THEY don't ride bikes either!

If someone does think I'm a lesbian because I ride bikes, well, I don't really have a problem with that either.

My missus has never been called a lesbian to her face and she rides. When she was more serious about bikes most of our female biker friends were pretty hot. Maybe its just a modern thing. She thinks biking women have more important things to worry about than whether some random thinks they are gay.

According to her the 2 most annoying parts of her biking life were 1) when she got stopped in Oz pillioning a bloke and the cop thought she was a kid who was too young to be riding and 2) when we got pulled over on a group ride for lane splitting on a holiday weekend and the arrogant MOT guy asked who she was a pillion with? She went ballistic and had to be restrained from dragging him from his car despite the size mismatch. Got us off the ticket though.

Yet another pile of crap spouted by Mark. You obviously haven't met many female motorcyclists - or for that fact, females full stop - if that's your learned opinion. None of the above apply to me and I'm not a lesbian either.

I must confess I was wary of joining WIMA as I'd heard it was full of lesbians, but when I joined in 1998 I think there was only one that I knew of. That may well be different now, but back then there were heaps of boyfriends, husbands, brothers, friends, etc involved with the club and I really enjoyed it.

My brother is a tosser and he thinks like you - he told my mother he thought I was a lesbian because: I had short hair; I rode a motorcycle; I wore Doc Martens and I had tattoos. I was telling a mate in the pub and he slapped his forehead and said "My God, I have short hair, I ride a bike, I wear Doc Martens, I have tattoos - and on top of all that I love women. Hell, I've been a lesbian for years and never knew it!"

People of all shapes, sizes, sexual orientation and occupation ride bikes. They usually do it because they enjoy it. Saying all female motorcyclists are lesbians is like saying all guys called Mark are losers. Whoops, sorry, wrong comparison to use. :2thumbsup

We found WIMA to be pretty good and very supportive of female bikers. The only reason wifey is not still there is she has found another sport that takes most of her free time.

Someone's sexuality should be the last thing on your mind if out riding with them. Things like 'are they good/safe enough not to crash and take me out too' should be of more concern.

Mark was just commenting on what he's observed, and, for what it's worth, I have to agree with him, inasmuch as I don't know any heterosexual female motorcyclists who got onto two wheels of their own accord, as opposed to following in the footsteps of their family or partner.

I reckon gay/lesbian -- :whocares: there's a stigma about sexuality that always confused me.

If i am in a bar and a chick says hi to me, I don't expect there's anything sexual about it (well, not now that i am older hehe) people seem to think that gay people are a threat to them, how? I have a couple of gay mates (guys) and most of them you wouldn't even know.. and they are as uninterested in me as i am them, its the same deal with my female friends, these people are like brothers/sisters to me, the sexual issue just doesn't present itself...

Its almost that because someone is gay they are percieved to be over-sexed and a threat to straight people, or do people worry about their sexuality so much that they see a risk?

"I wouldnt ride a bike because only lesbians do"

is this a common thought within the female straight variety?

we all know MILFs ride (i wont give an example but you know who you are!) and me being obviously gay i dont quite think like the average straight girl:woohoo: so im a little behind the 8 ball on this one

so any ideas?

It wouldn't have made any difference, and when I told my husband what he'd posted his first comment was "well, he obviously doesn't know very many women then, does he?" He rarely visits KB so does not even know of Mark.

I just think it's ridiculous for him to imply that straight women get into motorcycling via a boyfriend and if you didn't, then you must be gay! Of all the women I know who are into bikes, the vast majority just had an interest and decided to follow it up and learn to ride. That they then found boyfriends who were into bikes followed on from that.

Even though my current male hairdresser is gay, the three previous male hairdressers were not - one even rode a motorcycle!

Most women also drive cars and yet you don't hear the same comments - "oh, her fella got her into driving" or "she must be a lesbian, she just decided to start driving one day".

Sorry, imdying, still definitely heterosexual despite all those pointers!

I agree with MaxB - I don't give a shit which side of the fence my fellow riders prefer, as long as they are safe riders and look out for their mates - and I'm pretty sure there isn't a rule that says gay people can't have non-gay mates and vice versa. As they say, it takes all sorts to make the world go round.

Christ, and I thought MARK could spout shit! My comment about not caring whether someone was gay or straight when out riding with them was in direct response to a post by MaxB who said the same. Who DOES define themselves by who they have sex with? I don't recall hearing gay people go on about who they have sex with, nor do they appear to be defined by their orientation.

Defining yourself by your motorcycle is a bit tossy though and I'm sorry that this is the one thing that says who you are.

Purports, that's a BIG word for a little boy to use! You could also use a lesson in comprehension. Homophobia means a hatred of or fear of homosexuals. Can't find anything in any of my posts that alludes to that. My annoyance was directed at people who thought ALL women who rode motorcycles were lesbians. I get just as annoyed by people who think ALL journalists write lies for tabloid papers. It's unfounded generalisations that irritate me.

I was once hit on by a guy I wasn't interested in who immediately thought I was gay because I didn't fancy him. Same thing as the motorcycling females must be lesbians line - I'm not worried about being thought of as gay, I'm pissed off that people lack the originality to think of any other reason for a person's behaviour.

I'd be more generally enthusiatic about the subject of women having sex with me, m'self. But whatever rocks y' boat. Are you equally generally enthusiastic about the subject of men having sex with each other? Equal opportunities and all that.

Interesting post that one... and it cuts to the nub of a frailty that surrounds sex and sexuality in New Zealand...

Excuse the dreadful pun - but here's a blow by blow from my view on it.

I'd be more generally enthusiatic about the subject of women having sex with me
Me too - I'm that way inclined personally

But whatever rocks y' boat
Agreed... people out there seem to have variations on my preferences sexually. Fair enough - I'm not wrong - and nor are they. It's entirely down to the individual(s) concerned

Are you equally generally enthusiastic about the subject of men having sex with each other? Equal opportunities and all that.
If you're asking am I interested in sex with other men - not personally. I've been hit on a couple of times in my travels and found it flattering, not threatening in the slightest, but simply not for me. I found there was nothing attractive or arousing about it personally

If you are asking if I am enthusiastic about men having sex with each other. Generally - yes. If it's something that that works for them (for all the reasons that good sex should - it's validating, fun, close, intimate, arousing etc)... then why the hell not? It's none of my business what others do in their personal lives... so who I am to tell them they're not allowed to?

Interesting, isn't it, how a lesbian can call heterosexual women 'yucky' and be sympathised with, but if a straight chick called dykes 'yucky' she'd get absolutely hammered.

:sherlock:

(Personally, I think fireball's full of shit anyway ;))

the only reason a man doesnt call dykes yucky is because of this weird useless fantasy that he has the power to turn a lesbian straight...... or have this awesome 3some with 2 lesbians
personally i dont know how anyone can think a 3some with 2 lesbians is possibly going to be great sex..... as lesbians dont do men, so you would miss out, not even get a show or if you did get into bed with them they are bisexual greedy little beasties!

and as for me being full of shit..... you are right i appreciate good looking women (wouldnt sleep with them) and i can appreciate a good looking man (even less likely to sleep with them)

but i like a good bit of pussy like the next man and the next and i love bikes just like all of you here

Is it entirely outside the realm of your conception to consider that a man may find the idea of women having sex with each other erotic in and of itself, without any particular desire to be personally involved?

The spectrum of human sexuality is very broad, and I'm afraid you've only been exposed to a small portion of it.

Okay, I've been reading this post with some interest, as you do.

I've got a couple of practical (and not so practical questions). Now, it seems to me the idea of lesbians is kind of interesting, and I get that there is a spectrum of sexuality from gay to straight, and from normal christian sex (meaning none) to full on kinky group sex with implements and rubber gloves (particularly if you're a cop in Vegas).

But, being practical - it strikes me that living with another lesbian must produce some interesting problems. Like, the double dose of PMS each month. I mean, if there is there is an alignment of timing, does that explain the murder rate between women? Also, who gets to harange whom about the toilet seat, the rubbish not being taken out, and worst of all, who gets the wet spot?

And what about shoes? How can people who share shoes remain friends?

Do lesbians occasionally get longings for traditional loving?, I mean there has to an element of biological programming hasn't there?

Do lesbians - and I'm being serious about this one - decide who gets to lead, and who gets to follow when they dance? Is it a coin toss thing? I have this mental picture of Joanne and Josephine arguing the toss on a strictly ballroom night.

Who gets control of the remote, and who gets to ride up front?

One last question - and this is kind of interesting and kind of rude to ask, and I am being serious - why do some lesbians dress like blokes, and blokes who can't dress at that, and before you get angry, it seems one of the benefits of being a gay man is that they learn to dress and groom really well, and for straights like me, being confused for dressing like a gay man is kind of a compliment (if you get what I mean). Surely one of the benefits for being lesbian is tapping into that same gift of dress sense and style?

Yes there are some lesbians that dress like blokes, but there are also loads of lesbians that don't. You probably only recognise the ones that do which makes you think all do but it's not the case. It's possible you might see poorly dressed straight women and assume they are lesbians as wall.

It raises and interesting question though - what is "style" exactly? It's a very different thing to "fashion". I personally don't care if someone else wants to wear a leather waistcoat and a feather earing, it's not my cup of tea but whatever. I used to wear skirts, high heeled boots, stockings and all that to work, I was sitting on the bus one day (freezing) when it stopped and two people got on, both obviously going to work in an office like me. A guy in a suit carrying a bag slung over his shoulder looking confident and comfortable, and a girl in a skirt and high heels, a tiny handbag with an impractically small strap, and another bag to actually carry stuff in. The bus drove on and the guy was fine. The girl on the other hand was stumbling around on her high heels, wrestling with her purse, trying to keep the hair out of her face, pulling her skirt down so it didn't ride up while she held onto the bar... you get the picture, she was clearly at a disadvantage. I was sitting there pondering why women's clothing had to be some damn impractical and uncomfortable, how unfair it was that to look good we have to wear this crap when it dawned on me - we do it to ourselves! Nobody forces us to wear this stuff, and is looking weak and incapeable of even standing up properly on a moving bus or breaking into a jog to cross the road actually attractive? And if so to whom? So I made a concious decision to no longer conform to what the majority of society considers to be "fasionable" and instead to wear what I think looks (and feels) good. That doesn't necessarily mean dressing like a man, just not dressing like a barbie doll.

We are supposed to share shoes??? wtf?

I found this really excellent!! great post love!

ok, usually my wardrobe consists of LOTS of pairs of jeans (when in casual i really wear nothing else unless its shorts of some kind... dont really wear skirts or dresses coz they're impractical!!) and lots of funky t-shirts and tank tops.

that's what i wear coz it's comfy and as far as i know, it always looks okay if its not too ratty. I wear big giant motorcycle jumpers or just a normal hoodie or even a nice coat when i'm cold. when i go out, i wear some nice jeans or pants maybe a dress or skirt if i feel like it and wide, short heeled shoes that still look rather nice with sparkly things on them or what not. then i see the other girls dressing in tops that fall down all the time, skirts that ride up all the time, stupid shoes etc etc and wonder, "what the hell are they doing to themselves!? they just look awkward!"

fashion is dumb, sometimes i like the things they have, most of the time i dont. to all the girls out there that do dress up for other people and not themselves... i think personally others like you more if you feel comfortable with yourself and what you're wearing!!

Whats the 3rd girl then?

Either I can't count or I can't type. It's up to you to decide.

Hmm... I think I must have edited the post half way through - my sister doesn't ride anymore because she is pregnant - so that messed up my count. And seeing as how I'm quite stupid I can't hold that many things in my head at one time... like counting to 3...
