View Full Version : Hard decisions -- and bloody hard decisions.

I last week had to make one of the danged hardest decisions in my life.
In my mind I was going to take a year off from racing then start back into trackdays. The plan was to get in and do the 08/09 season.
A big reality check hit me when I tweaked my back last week. Just a minor sprain mind you.
The reality of just how much is riding on me being in one piece and functioning at 100% came to me with a bang.
So no track days or racing for me for at least 18 months dag namb it.
Sometimes being responsible really sucks

But being able to ride for the rest of your life and not giving yourself huge amounts of pain is pretty damn good though!!

It's a pity you couldn't come down, Tony. I had an absolute ball (and put in some reasonable times too!)

I hope it really is a minor sprain. I injured my back a few years ago and was told by the doc that it was a "minor sprain". I had physio but it never really fixed up properly, but I ignored it - "I'm fine", you know the drill.

About a year on I slipped a disc and completely stuffed up my plans for a bit (not plans to race, though :) ). I don't want to be melodramatic, but take it from me, when it comes to your back, don't accept second best. Keep pushing and pushing to get an MRI (if ACC is involved) - if you're independently wealthy just shell out the money and go have one done - Xrays don't show the problem and GPs often guess. Take it really easy for a bit, do the physio or whatever, but don't stop fixing it until it's 100% again. Don't accept "good enough".

Best of luck.

Sucks Frosty, must have been all that heavy lifting during the move.

Agree with this above, make noises about getting physio.

Get it sorted, I am going though physio for mine currently and it looks like due to the fact it was never fixed properly when younger I will always have a small shift, giving more probability of it slipping out later in life again, and dammed if I want that so it will be off to the gym for me and some serious working on it.

The responsibility may seem like it sucks mate, but the good stuff that comes with it more than makes up for it.

Apparently the best cure for a mildly tweaked back is to get some decent exercise while at the same time making sure your weight is off your feet, if you know what I mean.

You take it easy though old man... plenty more seasons ahead of you yet.

Sorry guys the backs right as rain now. But it really bought it home to me loud n clear that for the next year untill this business doesn't need me I can't afford to risk myself on a track. Me out of order means the business is down the gurgler
