BMW F800ST or F650GS Dakar

I have an F800ST. It's very cool, and I love riding it.

Sadly, I spend too much time reading about how cool it is to go off road. I rode an F650 Dakar before I bought the 800, but went for the road bike anyway.

Now I don't know what to do, as there is a really nice wee Dakar calling me from the local dealer. It's a year older than my 800, but it could do a lot more stuff.

I also just finished watching Charley and Ewan ride through Africa, and that didn't help !!

Any of your thoughts are welcome. :confused::confused::confused:

Define "off road". You may find that this is very important as to how much you'll enjoy a dakar.

have you considered keeping your BMW800 and buying a relatively cheaper dual purpose machine - Suzuki or Yamaha say - I've had a Dakar and found it heavy for serious off road stuff. cheers Aslan

I robbed a bank to buy the F800. Our own personal bank, of course. What it means is that bank manager (and wife, same person) will choke at me having two bikes.

Also, the F800GS is likely to be too pricey for me. Buying 2 new BMWs in close proximity is just too much to think about.

So, it's the F650 available locally, with my F800 as a swap/trade, or nothing.:crybaby:

Yeah, that's me !!

I'll be at work on the F800 for the next few days, if you are okay maybe an overnight swap might exorcise an issue or two for me. I promise to be very, very careful. I ride my F800 like a nana !!

Keep the 800 and buy a DR650 or KLR650. 9k compared to 17k. From what I have seen the Dakar will require an aftermarket rear shock and a rebuild of the front end to make it a safe and reliable semi off road bike. They are also too big and heavy to do any serius off roading.
