I stumbled across this '92 NSR250SE on Trademe.
The seller is looking for $7000ono. :eek5:
Is there something about this model of bike that makes it special (other then being a quick 2-smoke)?
Being heavily modded with no apparent Wof or Reg doesn't seem to support the price tag...
Lots of spares I guess...

Only worth as much as some sucker will pay.

I guess the personalised plate adds a bit, others will know if its good value but to me its a race bike from the photos, good luck to the seller but who knows someone may have offered that already.

No harm in them asking that for it I suppose, but highly doubt it will sell. 7k buys a lot of bike these days, no matter how many spares etc its still a 16 year old 250.

That was my inital reaction... But I'm no expert on unique 2-strokes (or any other genre of bike for that matter!).
Allegedly importers will flick you them for 8K...
I get pissed off when I see wildly overpriced bikes. Which I should probably get used to.

They used to have a saying about the US servicemen stationed here in NZ during dub dub duece, "over paid, over sexed & over hear".
That bike is, "overpriced, over the hill & orible"

16 year old 250.
Key phrase...
I guess if the sellers handing out a bunch of reciepts with it...
Engine rebuild, I've heard that one before.

Not too bad. Extra set of Tyga bodywork, extra tank, spare wheels, spare barrels and pistons, spare ignition system, spare carbon fender, spare front n rear suspension... essentially a spare rolling chassis. If I were looking for an NSR (and God willing one day I will be), I'd be looking closely at it. Sure, it's the same money as a piece of shite Hyosung or one of those hideous, slow, ghey arse new Ninja 250s, but it'll so badly beat those into the ground, it's almost insulting to mention them in the same sentence.

Yep. I agree. I dont think that price is unreasonable (of course i'd haggle) considering the spares with it.

Oh definitely, it's only a starting price  Buy it, paint the spares in Rothmans, cane crap out of it, job done :)

I've never understood the attraction to ex-race bikes.
Motors which have been flogged, cracks and repairs on the frames, dodgy gear ratios ...

Whoever posted price question in Kiwibiker must be asking for a No, because I am quite amazed on how much KB members always want everything for peanuts. The moment you post here "is it worth...", you already have your answer.
Hell, give them free stuff and they'd even pick and choose which ones they want and often say things about those they deemed as 'not even worthy of taking for free'.
The rule of sales and purchases are simple. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Just because there's no defamation rules on the internet doesn't mean you can start dissing out insulting remarks to sellers.
Wtf is with remarks such as "that's overpriced! but I don't know much about 2-strokes". Wise....real wise......Pricks

Well I've owned some fast 2-strokes in my time and as they're getting rarer and rarer now with not being built anymore, I think it's not a bad deal.
The Tyga kit is worth a fortune on it's own and the NSR is well set up.
Like Imdying said, if was in the market for an NSR I also would look seriously at it.
But also as Marmoot said, there are some half-wit responses here.....

for an nsr with that much work on it and that many spare parts that is a good deal. when looking at prices you cant look at a "16 year old 250", you have to look at the bike its self. what about 30grand for a 30+ year old ducati? I'm not comparing the 2 but I'm just making a point, to an enthusiast of a particular bike the price that seems over the top to someone else is a bargen to them.

a proper race bike will have been looked after very well. sure its been thrashed, but try find a bike that hasnt.

You can have a boring POS 08 Ninja 250, which you'll want to flog off as soon as you can legally get something larger, or something that you'll actually want to keep (or regret selling years later!). You pays your money, you makes your choice... (although said POS 08 Ninja 250 will probably keep running (albeit slowly) on a more consistent basis )

It'll get whipped by an R1 or even R6, but does that make it any less desirable,....err me thinks not !!

I've gone off the idea of getting another RZ500, there's the odd RGV500 replica built and sold on eBay if you're patient... rebuilt and tuned up motor, fat chassis, good suspension, trick parts galore, and for not much less than a 1098... no competition there IMHO

More tongue in cheek. I guess when you've been around bikes for quite a while you get a feel for what's good value and whats not.
I know (as my old man (RIP) had 2 SXZ's) what sort of money they would go for....ie 1098 or MV money, but you are NOT GOING TO SELL IT, are you Katman !!

Its my bike, still for sale, and yes i kind of had a big head when i first out it up for sale. now going for 5500K, only reasonis the amount of money spent on it, as the engine is pretty much new, only the engine casing, loom and frame. is what remains from the prevoius bike. all the internals suspention bodywork, wheels, everything else has been replaced.
