I have seen in a couple of magazines, as well as a post on kb from Hunter Motorcycles AU, advertisements about the 250cc full size Spyder Chopper that has been designed by 'Johnny Pag' in the states and manufactured in China.
They have a number of different 'brand' names given to them eg the Hunter Spyder 250 Chopper in Oz and here in NZ are distributed by 250choppers in Tauranga.
I recently got to see one up close and heard that once started she had a rather nice growl to her... I was however unable to take her for a ride.
Has anyone had any experience with these machines?
Even with them being manufactured in China are they any good?
Any help would be much appreciated...... :2thumbsup

Hey dirtysxymny, good to see people in NZ have noticed the Hunter.
The Hunter (in Australia) in conjunction with JR Pag in Riverside Ca., has been ADR'd to DOTARS regs under lisence.
Changes made to the USA Spyder, to gain Australian Design Rules(#38993) Re: - Steering head Rake, overall length(31mm less), ground clearance(12mm xtra), noise, fuel delivery & air filteration(conforms to EEC & TUV), etc..
The Australian Hunter Spyder is a entirely different Liquid cooled engine as opposed to the discontinued aircooled engine imported to NZ.
The USA & European models are now the NEW Liquid Cooled engines as of late 2007.
In USA its the same engine but 300cc, due to Australian Learner Laws in most states, we ADR'd the 250cc capacity to satisfy the majority of states tht have the 250cc learner rules.
The NEW LC engine runs a 360 degree crank & forged pistons, its delivers more lower end torque, extra HP & quiter performance, a wider 9" rear fender, an adjustable axle + auto-chain adjuster & Analogue speedo.
Any further questions Re; NZ dealer interest : -

Funny, people said that about hysoungs when they were priced at 7,495 and new 250 vtr's are 7,995. They may be different but hey, if it tickles your fancy and if the build quality and parts are available why not. Only time will tell how the service goes, but who knows in a few years they might be doing well.
