Yes as it says I did,:crybaby: my beloved VFR 800 1999 in very sexy red is now at some rubbish dump or some aution room waiting to be pulled apart for parts.
I could blame all kind of things like the lose grave, or the dark visior in late afternoon light etc. Really those plus many more did not help, but when I think along and hard about it, and I have over the past four weeks, it came down to riders poor judgement, target fixing and bad choice of using the wrong brake.:spanking: I have learnt so much about what not to do and how/what I should have done, I feel a better rider for it. It just sucks to loss such a awesome bike to learn this. So in memory of my beloved bike I will buy another one and use what my VFR teached me to good use. So to all the good people who know my bike and were it normally sits( In front of my cafe COLUMBUS COFFEE RICCARTON) you now know why it has not been there and why I have not been posting much.
Now onto what next you might ask, well I have beening looking at a SV 1000 or VTR 1000, does any one have any ideas which is better??
Anyway hope to see you all out on the roads again very soon.
Supersoinc.
PS To the two riders who went past the red VFR and rider (just getting up) on the old sumit road on the sunny sunday the 6 th March. Thanks so BLOODY MUCH FOR STOPPING NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:gob: Your time will come. Bad vibes coming your way :spanking::Pokey:
PSS Not a mark in me at all due to going 15k ish when I was high sided off into the ditch (soft landing thanks VFR looking after me to the very end:cool:)
First photos taken 200 metres from the crash site on the same day too. The after shots a few days later.

Hard luck dude. Hope the new bikes stays shiny! I personally would consider the SV1000 as I feel it is a better bike. Never ridden either, so it really is an uneducated comment!!

Well I guess been there done that maybe, also the way the insurance pay out you cannot really buy the same type of bike as most VFRs are currently going for over 8k close to 9k for what I had and I can not afford that at the mo.

Eeek, not a happy tale! Was wondering though whether you might branch into the funeral business, what with way you opened this thread
Good to hear you've come out of the experience ok yourself (even acknowledging your bikes "looking after you to the very end" aaahhhhhh.
Just goes to remind us all not to take for granted any road we ride, even frequently travelled ones. Hope your heart heals as quickly as your spirit!

You evil VFR wrecker you! :spanking:
Seriously - sorry to hear about your "off". :crybaby:
It looks fixable, but then again, the retail price for new replacement parts will be astronomical.
Replacement bike? Well, I went from the VFR750 to a VTR1000 to a VFR800 (2001), and the VFR is a much better bike than the VTR. Don't get me wrong - I loved my VTR, but the VFR is a better quality product in terms of refinement etc. The VTR produces roughly the same power (but more torque, and at lower revs), and is slightly lighter, slightly quicker in turns, but is less comfortable (especially two-up), has a slightly rougher gearbox, less weather protection, and a shorter range for touring.
I can't comment on an SV1000, as I've only ridden the older (carbed) SV650, which I didn't like. But, from what I know about Suzukis, I'd imagine it's a better bike than the VTR, and not as ugly.
I know photos do not always tell the full story, but they don't look too bad. However, if insurance is replacing - go for it.
I have a question tho....
What are you doing on a largish and powerfulish (and pretty) bike if you don't know what to do when presented with gravel? Don't get me wrong - I'm not dissing you, and it's good to see that you take ultimate responsibility - but have you never had that situation before? The dumb things that most of us do, largely happen on the smaller bikes as we climb through the licence stages and gain experience.
As for the 2 who sailed on past...shame on them!!

Well, about the tinted visor in low-light conditions - that's poor planning right there.
The Summit Road is dodgy during winter, there will be lots of grit around so do take care up there.
Main thing is that you are ok and that the insurance plays ball!
Glad to hear you're OK, but I can't believe anyone would just bypass a crash!:Oi:

You can not expect other bikers to stop. Yes, we all hope they will - but don't expect it, you're just going to be disappointed.
I'd like to think I would stop myself - but honestly I would most likely just slow down and unless the person in question signaled for me to stop I don't think I'd stop.
Of course if some unlucky fella is pushing his bike along or crawling out of a ditch it's an entirely different story...
I spent about 15 minutes fiddling around with my bike on the side of a North Island road this sunday. I had one of the fairing panels off and was mucking around. A whole lot of cars and one bike zoomed past in that time - not one even slowed down. It didn't make me angry or disappointed though - if I had needed help I would have flagged someone down... Not a whole lot they could have done anyway. Karma and all that - no reason to waste your energy on these questions.

I would have just fixed it, it's only a fairing a hadlebar/ top triple clamp, and a footpeg.
Not worth claiming on.
Hey SS, glad you are ok, thats number one. Shame about the bike. Gimme a call, and I will tell what little I know about SV 1000s. I think that would be a good choice, but quite a different beast to the VFR.:doctor:

Total cost for just the fairing alone is 6k plus the other bits grand total of 10k?? astronomical you bet. Someone is making a killing some were??????:nono:
I would love to get another VFR but money will stop that I feel. But thanks for coments on the bikes.

Yep thanks for that, but like I said I could have blamed the gravel and a LOT of other things for that day, but really it was my head that caused the crash not really the gravel. I only gave the very short story, so take out of it what ya like.:done:

thanks Cruza, I am conservative rider I think that was part of my down fall in this case. Na no frame damage. Did think long and hard about fixing it myself but when I saw the list and the price of some of the main parts over 8k I gave in to the insurance company. Oh well did look at a bandit 1200 too down south. Not sure.
Yeah, I dont think Mstrs comments are that relevant here-you are a good rider, and you acknowledge what went wrong. Thinking about new bikes, perhaps the bandit may be a more 'similar' choice to what you are used to. The SV would certainly be a new direction, but hey that might be what you want. Cruza loves his Bandit and can make it boogie when the mood takes him......

Well, I imagine that you could find the fairing panels a fair bit cheaper through wreckers and such - but that is not what your insurance is for I agree.
Just to give an example - I smashed a fairing panel on my 750... New panel from the factory: $867 - a panel that had been repaired and only needs painting: $300...

If you can live with it riding a crashed bike, but I reckon your bike is quite an easy fix.
My bike did a massive highside but I guess I was lucky as it was purely cosmetic damage and still managed to it fix it up to a sparkling brand new.
That's after 3 months of grazing around and $700 bucks later.
Buggar about your bike:shit: But glad that you're ok.
Maybe it's time for you to go naked:innocent:
....I mean in bikes that is
We'll have to pop in & see you for coffee soon- you boy's can swap crash stories
