My vfr750 stopped viffing --in fact it stopped doin much at all
after going through it it turned out to be the fuel pump had died.
For the record-1990 VFR750 fuel pumps are made of unobtaineum
The good news is it seems that a mitzi fuel pump of that era is almost universal. Its the outlet pipe size thats different.
I swapped the ends of the pumps over from my spare zxr pumo and bingo the viffer is viffing again.
Lesson here -sometimes being a bodger mechanic is worth while

This is what happens when you put bloody stupid things like fuel pumps on bikes.... They will be putting radiators on the damn things next..
Personally, the less shit there is, the less there is to go wrong...

Still not sure about overhead valves...

Fuel pump? fuel pump? - Crickey, it's well on its way to being a 'half car' as per my post on the thread "What Brand(s) do you ride??'

Fuel pump? fuel pump? - Crickey, it's well on its way to being a 'half car' as per my post on the thread "What Brand(s) do you ride??' :whistle:True enough, but shouldn't bikes benefit from the same improvements in technology as cars? :spudwhat:
I decided a few years ago that "simpler was better", and maybe I'll buy another simple bike. But there are some advantages to complexity and a 'proliferation of techno-doodads'. F'rinstance - the VifFerraRi makes about the same power as the FahrtSturm did, albeit arranged somewhat differently. However, the FahrtSturm was lucky if it achieved 30 mpg, whereas the VifFerraRi can easily manage over 47 mpg, courtesty of an intelligent EFI system that reverts to a 'closed-loop' cycle that runs ultra-lean when on a constant throttle. The FahrtSturm had to make do with ultra-thirsty 48mm carbs which did a brilliant job, but had some 'moments' where they just couldn't cut it, like blipping the throttle would sometimes cause it to backfire and (before I adjusted it out) stall at intersections.
Like many riders, fuel efficiency isn't really a big deal to me, but it's nice to know that if/when emissions testing is introduced here in the future, my bike will pass. :yeah:
Another indirect plus - the VifFerraRi is too complex to fiddle with most things, much to the vifferbabe's relief, but also doesn't need much fiddling. When the standard airfilter is dirty, and I switch to a Uni or BMC, to retune the bike for the improved breathing all I need to do is disconnect the battery briefly, and the EFI will reset itself, and adjust for the leaner mixture. :niceone:

Fuel pumps and gauges on bikes? Duh! I'm happy to not have a fuel pump anymore - on the XLV750 the pump would cut out when battery voltage got low, then you're stuffed, you can't even bump start the bike, cause it's not going to go without a fuel pump.
