So here I was, getting home yesterday after the first day of really bad weather that I had to ride in since last winter, thinking about how much I hated my winter gloves, they aren't even waterproof and since they're so big and padded I have no feel whatsoever for the throttle and clutch etc! And I had an idea... Sorry if pic quality is bad, took them with my phone.
But pretty much, pic 1 + pic 2 = pic 3 = 100% Waterproof leather armoured gloves, with no reduction in "feel".

Great idea!...It will run sweet for short runs, but on longer ones, you'll find yourself with sweaty palms however.
and of course, don't let anyone see you put them on...they might think you want to give them an internal :eek5:

good idea, maybe you could go one step further and try plastic bags on your feet inside your boots, keeps your socks dry.

Great idea - but a summer weight glove will not cut it in the South Island over winter (expecting a 'high' of 10 in Christchurch today - yep TEN).
BUT add a set of heated grips + your idea and you'll be set.
Maaahahaha! That's quite funny-looking. But practical, very practical.
You'll be giggled at, but you will indeed have dry hands.

Yeah this is pretty much just for commuting the 40k to uni each way if it's raining, haven't tried yet but I'm thinking I'll prob be able to take the gloves off with the latex still on and then put them back on together too :)...
Also, you can just chuck a pair of latex gloves under your seat or in your pocket so that rain can never catch you out again in terms of getting wet gloves

Hairy arms.
but err no over all you get a fail as winter glover should cover the space between you jacket and where sports gloves dont cover.

Might get a little sweaty dude, and the surgy glove wont keep your hands warm as the sweat gets chilled and you get cold.
BUT WAIT !!!
for the last year Ive been working on a new Glove and it arrived this week
Full Leather outer, reinforced palms
TPU knuckle and finger armor
Full Thinsulate innner
Hipora waterproof system
so you can now buy a full leather armoured glove that is waterproof and warm !!!
I will post pics etc soon and announce these and other new products just in, but I need a new name for the gloves first (writers block)

Well my jacket reaches my wrist and my glove, since my hands are lower than my shoulders, the water will be running down my jacket and then down over my glove. :2thumbsup
Anyhow, I'm not trying this for a "winter" glove as such, just as a waterproof autumn/spring option if you get caught out in the rain or for that 20min commute.

tuck your glove cuff inside your jacket sleeve.
quasi... im looking forward to seeing those gloves. my current ones are all armoured, but long enough in the rain, and i cant feel much beyond my thumb, lol.
The best 100% waterproof material on the market is your skin :niceone:
It is very waterproof, but it kinda feels the cold I guess :D
condoms are ideal for this.
Especially if you wash the tadpoles out first. I'm too cheap to use new ones.

My million dollar idea was to get some dish washing gloves made in super super sizes. Non slip & cannot leak. Then someone else made them I bought some from a shop, but still a bit small for big gloves. Never seen any more.
Sorry Quasi, don't believe you. I've bought a few 'waterproof' gloves over the years & they never pan out, my last ones are Hipora & while it slows down water ingress they never last & don't cope with a real downpour, even so -the leather is still sodden so gets cold, makes them more than a drag to take off & put on again.
They do have their place though, behind some MX handguards are the best defence.
Be cautious of the bag or inner glove idea, the low friction surface makes it easy to slip off in an accident, the force is sometimes quite violent.

As I've said before - breadbags over the top of your gloves and a rubber-band around each cuff.:2thumbsup

Why'ncha run a naming competition for them, with a pair as a prize for the winning entry?

yeap in the end the cheapest, most practical idea, toss them in the rubbish when finished with, ya dont loose grip. Only one down side, the look! but if your dry , the looks dont matter.
Another idea for keeping warm on those cold days are wine cask bladders.
Filled with hot water, tucked inside your leather, warm as, empty when cold, of toss out at the end of the ride. Up side /down side?? you have to drink a cask of wine to get them! But dont ride for 24hrs!
I got a set of moshin gloves off tardme from a guy out east.
Ive never got wet hands once... Had these for about 4-5months now and not a problem at all. there mint. there not even winter gloves. not the best of armour an my hands get cold but they dont't get wet.

lol, but your in Auckland mate, come down here and ride in the real bad weather...see if your gloves last then, Im sure that a few of us southern riders could guide you across the snow filled passes during the winter.
Following a snow plough is not nice over the lewis pass or arthers.
But hey if it works for you in Auckland, good one!

Fair enough, sometimes we can make comments assuming things about the person we comment on, lol.
But if those glove can last waioru weather then they must be good.
might tootle off to the army surplus store and see what they have in stock.

or riding from Invergiggle to Gore in a bloody snow storm, following a telecom 4WD because no WAY was I getting trapped there a second longer.
I thought I would die, but it was worth it to escape the place.

johnsons baby powder on your hands before putting the rubber gloves on, then more on the rubber gloves before you put the leather gloves on.... works a treat.

Haha please let me no if you do find some.
There a normal woolen glove, and you get some thick cow hide leather over gloves.
May try and see if one of my mates can score me some. there a tad chunky but they do the job.
Ive never seen issue ones at a surplace store.

I would be very uncomfortable with such an air/water tight glove: However I think that the idea is a good one and with the right materials, it could be a winner.

My cheap KBC winter gloves I bought from Haldanes on special seem to be holding up pretty well after a year and one bin. They have padded leather and 3M thinsulate. Will see how they hold up this winter.

I've tried a few options including the bulky waterproof gloves (Dry Rider) which just feel too bulky and although I regularly coat my leathers, including my gloves with Bees Wax, I find that the thin latex gloves over my leather gloves work well and don't take any space up under the seat.

But how much will it cost...I want a pair haha. Question...will oyur leather winter gloves come with the drying time of cordura?? Or can I chuck them next to the hot water cylinder without messing them up? If so I am keen to try some on when they get released.

The only true option is waterproof overmitts.
Don't piss about with anything else. I have tried these out (in lots of rain) and they really work well.

Well I guess it comes down to your style of riding. If you are a tourer then wet, cold hands are an issue.
If you fizz around the Coro then it don't really matter eh.
Come and do a GC in October... lets see who the wimp is then :msn-wink:
