Anyone else riding down to Wanganui on boxing day?

Thinking of staying a night or two and returning via Taupo as races there too on the 28th.

if my bike is back together I'm planning on leaving hamilton 6 or 7ish sunday morning, not too sure about the return trip yet.

still not sure if i'm leaving form N/P or here in tauranga......
what root would you be going?

FzerozeroT
20th December 2004, 22:24
OK, lets solidify this a bit, racing starts at 11? so should be there by 10? 360km + 3 fuel stops (sorry guys) should mean 3.5 - 4hrs riding so I'm aiming for 5:30 out of bed and leaving h-town about 6 - 6:30.

sounds like a few from NP could cut across to meet up in Turangi or thereabouts, along with the peeps from this thread http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=7202&page=1&pp=15 could make for a good (semi quick 110-130) ride. faster riders could leave 7-7:30

I have beds for 2 and floor space for probably 4 if bikers from further north want to crash here on sat. any chance of somewhere to crash in Wanganui?

Seriously?
On Christmas day?
Are presents provided?

Well if your sure, this would be good, as the alternative is an incredibly early start for me.

Right! After discussion with the wife, here's what I can offer:

If one or two would like to travel to New Plymouth on Christmas afternoon they could stay at my place, which it's only 2 hours ride to Wanganui.

On Boxing Day if some would like to stop in New Plymouth for the night, they could also stay here. I have a few spare beds, spare camping matresses, and if I ask nicely I may be able to get a caravan.
Don't expect to find any Christmas left overs, and things are a bit tight sorry, so it'll either be toast in the morning or buy your own.
We need to know before Christmas day if you want to stay here.
Though this sounds a little rigid, I do have to work in with other family members.

I will also be going to the races (with my truck sadly), so if anyone needs help or a place to store their gear for the day (ie: helmets, jackets), give me a call on 025 66 959 00, as long as you can leave me with your cell phone number, as I don't want to be stuck at the end of the day waiting for people to come and pick up their helmets before I can leave.

All KB'ers Welcome.
I'm also organising all the rain to be gone by Boxing day.
Let's have a good one! :niceone:

I'm sorry to have to point this out, Ching, but via Turangi for the Hamilton, Auckland or Bay of Plenty peeps is actually the long way round.

For the Auckland and Hamilton peeps, the quickest route is via Otorohanga, Te Kuiti, then 8-mile Junction to Tauramanui & south on SH4 National Park road, Raetahi, the Paraparas :2thumbsup and Wanganui.

For the Bay of Plenty peeps, the quickest route is over the Kaimais, head for Putaruru, down SH1 to Tokoroa, SH32 to Mangakino (or via Rotorua, then SH32 to Mangakino), then down the Western Access (still SH32) around Lake Taupo, then SH41 to just south of Tauramanui & on SH4 thru the Paraparas to Wanganui.

A detour via Tokaanu to Turangi, then via SH47 back to SH4 at National Park is not too big though. ;)

Actually, it'd be quicker for you to go through SH47 & meet them at National Park.

I'm gonna stick with my plan for leaving time as I don't want to be in too much of a hurry, so hopefully the quicker riders will catch me in Taumarunui, should we make that a meeting point? time?

:gob: what an awesome day, from the ride down (started with a harley+CBR1000+SP3 ) then a cruise with ching, then got into the zone and had a blast on the final section of twisties.

Great races and good to see Jared Love win a race

Great ride home and got to see some wheelies (at last).

Best things of all NO RAIN! (none that mattered anyway) and only the good police were out :Police:
