This thread is for the big kids only. I don't do chick flick reviews or go to a movie to get depressed.

I took the Kids today to see Iron-man. To be entertained.:jerry:
I left with a new found respect for Robert Downey jnr. Before seeing this I couldn't name jack shit that he's appeared in, and only had a vague ideal that he even existed as an Actor. I did know that he was a drunk and druggie once - something that adds credibility to his on screen character I reckon, as he swills ice in his booze eyeing up a tasty hostess. You will get a laugh out of what he has fitted under the floor of his private jet for those party girl moments.

Downey's delivery of his witty one-liners was an unexpected hightlight of the movie. I doubt they meant to make it as a comedy, but he had me in stitches.

Downey has taken what would have been just another 'made to the same old super hero formula' flick with a clever suit and CGI effects, into something much more enjoyable.
Sure the plots nothing surprising and we all expect special effects to amaze us these days - and they do a fine job in Iron man. You want heavy serious stories - go read a Womans Weekly or Motor cycle mechanics for beginners.

Yes, it does takes a while for the Suit to make an appearance. But I liked how we see it develop from the urgent hack job, which still provides some spectacular action scenes, through its' gestation as a prototype, to the refined stunner every boy will want for Christmas.

We have seen plenty of super hero movies coming out over the past few years with Spidey rating high amongst them. Personally I find the runt playing Spidey belittles the comic character. The latest Batman guy is the best so far. Dare Devil was a favourite comic of mine as a Kid, but Ben Affleck ruined it for me. Shame because that was a comic I really wanted to see made into a movie..along with Iron man.

So it was a buzz to walk out of the theatre today smiling and pleased that this time, they did the character justice.

Possibly another case of all the Dad's enjoying the movie more than the Kids.

I thought about taking my kids. But at 4 and 6 might be too young? Would it be a bit scary for them?

Nah - took my daughter (28) and grandson (2) as my son-in-law is away with the army. He enjoyed it and was excited when we got home and he saw the ads on TV about the movie.

CGI was really quite impressive - alot more was CGI than just the suits and you'd not notice it unless you're looking for it (and even then alot is just an assumption)

do agree with the propaganda in films recently; same for RAMBO4 with it's stereotyping the latest enemy of the US. it kinda cheapens it for my and annoys me at the same time.

very entertaining movie

Great acting from RDJ. The CG was sick. Didn't like the ending.

Very entertaining.

Anyone else seem to always sit in front of the cunt that can't keep his feet off your seat?

Downey's delivery of his witty one-liners was an unexpected hightlight of the movie. I doubt they meant to make it as a comedy, but he had me in stitches.

Downey has taken what would have been just another 'made to the same old super hero formula' flick with a clever suit and CGI effects, into something much more enjoyable.
That was the intention of the producer - he wanted to make sure that Downey's character wasn't too 'comic book'ish, and so Downey had quite a bit of input into the movie and his character, and a lot of bits were improvised, rather than sticking strictly to the script. This was to make the character more human and believable, and hopefully make the audience be able to identify with him.

I found the fact that Downy was ostracised by the movie and TV industry because they felt that his drug use and convictions would adversely affect their reputation to be very hypocritical. How does this affect his acting abilities? Don't actors portray all sorts of unsavoury characters? :spudwhat:
Hadn't he paid for his crimes, so why punish him by denying him a career?
