View Full Version : BIKER GEAR vs STORAGE

Hello, I have a question for every biker.
When you go to your school/work/going somewhere else Where do you
put your helmet, jacket, pants and all the rest of the gear?!
I find it hard to think of a place where most people would put their clothing
and other gears.
I do understand some people have lockers otherwise have like a box on
their motorbike to store somethings in there but what about when you
go to a mall or to the movies?! Would you go there while wearing your
gear?! I guess it will be ok if it is short period of time (under 30min)
but if it will be longer...what do you?!
For those reasons question which sparked up my mind was "Do all bikers also have cars too?"
so depending on the occasion you take different transportation?!
Another question is when it's raining (pouring down) do you still ride your bike?

Welcome to the joys and mysterys of motorcycling. I have panniers, some just a top box. Some do have a car(and bike).
I know many (ok, a few) who DON'T have a car. They make do. SO CAN YOU !!!
As for riding in the rain...if you have to, you will. The degree of urgency is up to YOU.

At work - I put all my gear where everyone can see it, and it gets in as many peoples way as possible.
Shops - wear it, grrr 'well ard' biker coming through!
parents/friends etc - dining room table usually does the trick :devil2:
Movies? i'll use up to two seats next to me to store it all :devil2:
I do not have another form of transport - bike is it. Even grocery shopping, I'll walk around in full bike gear, helmet in the trolley!
Why would ANYONE want to have another form of transport? *mind boggles* I have to drive the work cars at least once a shift, and it's actually frustrating driving a cage.. I hate it... put your foot down... *nothing* ...10 mins... *oaahp, next gear* etc etc

At work I have a coat rack by my desk for jacket and pants and the rest just goes on the desk (boots under).
As for shopping, I do most of it on the bike (only take the car for things too big for the bike. I take all my gear with me. Nothing like walking through a crowd in full m/cycle gear.
As I've said above we use the car for the sea kayaks (which includes some weekends away) but that's about it.

Would cramp your style a bit in the twisties. It is food for thought though. Maybe when I get something big enough I'll revisit the idea.

At work I just dump all my gear in the store room, easy as.
At the movies you just put it on the seat next to you.
Round the shopping centres, as others. Just wear it, makes you look 'ard. Everyone gets out of your way.
When I went to school it was a proper bitch cause we didn't have lockers so I used to just lock my helmet to the bike and carry my leather jacket round with me. Got some funny looks but i wasn't really all that bothered. Chicks used to dig it :pinch:
And I just got home from the pouring rain.. had a great time going through ALL the REALLY deep puddles :D I'm absolutely soaked but I was gonna get wet one way or another so I decided to have some fun with it, till the exhaust flooded and the engine died and I spent 10 minutes or so trying to burn off the water..

buy draggin jeans. Then you just gotta wear a jacket (buy a nice one then its stylie too). So you just lug your lid around. which is fine.

I was told that I couldn't take my helmet into the movies. I stared the guy down and walked off and returned with it in my bag and got in. Anyone else get that?

that'd make me find the guy in charge and get a little vocal.. why they hell cant you take your lid inside?
some people..
I put my helmet bag in my pocket. When I get off I put the helmet in, shove the gloves inside my helmet and sling the lot over my shoulder. Jacket? Leave it on.

Thank you all for the replies, I have had good advices and somewhere in the middle nearly went off topic...lol but funny comments!!!
I guess there is a way around it, either taking it with you or finding a place to put it with a little bit of a risk. But where there is a will they is a way~ rite?!

Yeah I have seen ppl do that, but guess u use like a bike lock to lock it to the bike?! Maybe something stronger?! Are u worried tat ur visor maybe crack or inside of the helmet being dirty?! (dust,wind,rain...etc)
There are idiots at uni who do abuse others property...
so far i havent encountered any but... i've seem some crazy things

Sometimes I carry my gear with me and sometimes I use the helmet hooks under the seat to secure the helmet and then leave the gloves under the seat as well.
If I am going to the shopping centre or going to somewhere that I'll need to walk a bit then I don't wear full leathers and instead go the draggin jeans or normal jeans and leather jacket which I don't mind wearing everywhere or just carry it under my arm.
Some of my mates take a bike chain or security cord and put that through the jacket arms and lock that through the bike. Have even been known to thread a few jackets and helmets with the same cord to one bike.

Also, you'd need to add a couple of meters for our boats. Probably end up too far forward of the front axle to be legal.

Na I lock it to my helmet lock under my pillion seat. I park in the underground staff carpark so nothing at all will get touched by the weather or other people :).

Yip I rode home in the pissing rain tonight. My Ixion rain coveralls worked great, pity my Dririder(should be wetrider) boots however filled up.:pinch:Will need to use the plastic bag trick on feet until I can afford some better boots.
As for where to put my gear I'm lucky enough to have a locker.
I was told that I couldn't take my helmet into the movies. I stared the guy down and walked off and returned with it in my bag and got in. Anyone else get that?
That would be a case of "Where are the rules that prohibit this and IF your organisation has this rule, where is your SECURE cloakroom for these sorts of items?"
If not, ignore the prick.
