I am a mature rider and enjoy riding the back roads of Otago i.e. Skippers,Nevis,Dunstan, Macetown. I have got over the need to do the extreme stuff and nowdays enjoy the gentler routes. I usually ride on my own but would enjoy riding with other like minded enthusiasts. If anyone is interested in forming a small casual group for this type of adventure riding please contact me.

Give Oldrider (John) a pm,great bloke and the amount of time he spends riding both on and off the beaten track defies his screen name,lives just up the road a bit from you.He recently sold a Transalp and rides a Trumpy Tiger.Also Jantars another bloke to get in touch with.

Hi Craig - last time I met you you were putting your plastic rubbish bag on to keep dry - didn't quite match the $23K bike you were riding:shutup: (I was on the Transalp - now on a Tiger)
Probably time I joined the club as well - seem to have enough things I belong to already though!!
Hi Old Grant - I like to do some of these trips as well. I had hoped to do a traverse of the Dunstan and Nevis one weekend this summer but it didn't come together. Keep in touch when you fancy a ride though - sometimes it suits me better through the week rather than at weekends so if that works for you send me a message.

Yeah you'll be pleased to know I've splashed out on a rain suit now! That was a last minute thing, but it obviously tickled your fancy! Anyway I'm in the packaging game so I guess it was appropriate!

Borrowing this one :) Anyone going from Dunedin to Brass Monkey via gravel roads? Just moved in the Dunedin (and NZ) and my landlord is recommending BM as a nice easy starter. He says beer is not going to be warm there...

Just have few issues to sort out first, my bike is in service (under warranty, clutch slips), have only 10 litre tank, dont have camping gear, can’t really drive etc…:blink: And yes, I haven’t ask permission from my wife (major issue ;))

I’m also interested on rides here in Dunedin, is there any www-site for Otago Motorcycle Club? How you guys arrange rides?

And one more question, the tank, I am going to get bigger one, any thoughts how big should I get (http://www.justgastanks.com)? What sort of distances are you guys doing when “adventure riding” (between fuel stations)? 10 litres takes me at least 150 kilometres…i think... I want to keep tank as small as possible.

Ps. if anyone has motard wheels for XR650 I’m very interested on buying one set!

justgastanks are really good to deal with. There are a couple of us here in Chch who got IMS tanks for DR650's and from ordering to delivery has taken no more than 8 days!

Around the north of the south island you can manage with 200km and carry a couple of extra litres when necessary but 300 km is a much more comfortable figure if you ever ride outside petrol station opening hours.

The OMCC has a club meeting tonight at 3 Clark St at ummm 7.30 i think.
The Brass monkey will be on the agenda. If you intend to get into motorcycling here its a great club to join. If you can't come to the meeting get a Membership form from any local bike shop. There will be plenty of people going to the BM from Dunedin. If you want to make youself a popular club member straight away you could maybe volunteer your time for an hour or so as helper there! Talk to Kevin the Pres.

I'd vote for a 300km range minimum. It just takes so much of the 'how far is it' fussing away.
