though the damned rain today piddled on my parade and didn't allow me to go for a ride after work...
ah well, i should have time during the week to ride _b
Here's to a new chapter in my life! :Punk:
Good stuff!!!! Wahoo.. another biker is born..:rolleyes:Who cares what anyone else thinks..it's about you and your steed and the adventures ahead:banana:Well done for getting out in the crap weather..no stopping ya now:devil2:
Congratulations. And a very sensible choice of a bike to learn on. (and commute on, a n often overlooked factor).
Now your jouney begins. In 50 years time you'll still be learning. I think you will do well.

Always knew she would. Some folk are like unto the mills of God - they grind slow, but most exceeding fine.

Pics or it didn't happen.
Did you ride to work today?
Curious_AJ
5th May 2008, 19:50
bike was blocked by dad's car and dad shouted at me something about "bloody fucking bike... mumble mumble" and wouldnt move the car.. so no work riding today... but i have three days in which to do it soooo i'm gunna take any opporunity to learn.
as for the pictures.. my camera fails at working... so until someone brings me one that DOES work.. there won't be any pics! lol. besides you all know what a GN125 looks like i'm sure...
but I love you all and look forward to riding with at least some of you !
Hm. I shall arrange a learner / 125cc friendly ride the next fine weekend. No excuses will be accepted.

Woohoo AJ!
Welcome to the big world of bike ownership and ridership. Enjoy yourself and ride safe out there.
cheers! i had a bit of a ride today, was nice... but then i stalled and couldn't get the bike to start again. LOL i'm a n00b... but then again, i tried to start it, and the revs only got up to 1000 no matter what i did! and then after a little while it wouldn't even start! so i pusjed it all the way home (luckily i was really close) and went "HELP!" to magua.. he's coming to have a look later.
now, this bike likes full choke and no throttle to start according to the previous owner. even though i did all of those, it didn't wanna know my troubles... so AJ is wondering, does anyone know what to do???
heyjoe
6th May 2008, 22:17
hey there AJ,
Sorry to hear of your stalling incident today. You are fortunate you can push your bike home. A lot of bikes have their little 'idiosyncrasies' as you said the previous owner informed you of your new baby's special preferences for starting. I know some of my bikes had their funny idiosyncrasies around starting up so you are not alone. I'm no mechanic so will side-step giving advice on what the problem is but your friend or someone else on kb is sure to be able to offer their opinions/advice.
With some more time to get acquainted, you and the GN will get to know each other well! Have fun.

Some bikes can be particularly idiosynchratic when starting cold. My Zeal, for example, hated to be started with any choke whatsoever but, as soon as the engine fired, needed choke added at that point. Mrs H's Bandit sulks if it doesn't fire first time when cold. I am sure that your GN will have its own "ritual" that you will need to follow at starting time. Once learned, this will become instinctive.

Yes indeed. Nothing like starting a warm four stroke single. At least you don't have to kick start the beast.

tThanks guys. Yeah i'm sure Betty and I will be just fine in no time. Just going to get something to put her gas in in a few moments so that I can check whether it's got water in it. If so, then I'm going to do the whole meths thing and try again. After attempting to put Betty back together of course... well, some of her back together anyway...
yeah, the thing you guys never thought would happen, happened!

Cool, two threads now and still no photos?

Great to hear you got yourself a bike, and a sensible learner bike to boot. If the engine was warm when you stalled it, try to start it without choke first. Most engines - cars, bikes , lawn mowers - need no choke for a warm start.

nah it had been sitting for a few days. and i now think it wasnt me who stalled it.. i found that it just died as soon as i slowed a certain amount... :s
there's a thread about it in general maintainance ... (i'd link it but I'm lazy... search for "okay, GN is not starting... WHY?!" )

Have you got the bike sorted yet?
And how's the riding going?
I have friend down here with a 250, she's a bit nervous too, can't even get her bike out the garage herself - but she'll get there.
Thought if you were brave enough to head down Hamilton way in a few weeks (when my bikes back on the road) we could organise a confidence-building ride for you guys (guyesses)
I’m in Auckland a few days a week for work, so if you haven’t got your bike sorted soon, I could probably pop around after work and have a look, give you some advice.
