View Full Version : Police to pull over...

...drivers behaving well this summer holiday. Read in the newspaper (so it must be true) the other day about how police intend to pull over drivers who display acts of courtesy and good road behaviour. They said if its impossible to pull over the driver they will just send a letter. WTF?? You've just spent the last hour behind 3 cars with caravans, waiting for the safest chance to overtake, pull past them all and then get pulled over for it. Ok, maybe that scenario is at the extreme, but I would find that annoying to say the least.

A cynical friend said it is just giving the police more power to pull over people, I think he's a little paranoid, but who knows.

How would you react to being pulled over, red and blues flashing, to be complimented on your driving?

Probably be shitting myself for the best part of it, they always out to get me!

Courtesy pull over turns into warrant/wof check and whatever they might be able to ping you for.

They might want to employ more staff for the *555 so they can get through the inevitable complaints.

Police don't need a reason to pull some one over, as such, the LTA 1998, Section 114 says they can pull anyone driving a vehicle on a road for the purpose of checking licence and vehicle details. So this isn't a new power or anything like that. Hopefully good drivers will get a reward of somekind like a lollypop or a get out of jail free card.

What?

Gaurantee they will get some ear bashing if they pull me over to tell me what a good boy I am.

If they pull me over for good driving can I get some points taken off my license please?
Maybe I could get him/her to testify about my marvellous driving habits in court in January..

Yeah Right

Its comms center for you mate !

I got pulled years ago while riding my CB200,Cop smiled and said "That`s the best bit of machine control I`ve seen for years",a bit bemused I said "Thanks",then the punchline,"Unfortunately you twat this is a public road not a racetrack and if you carry on riding like that I`ll have your licence". :eek5:

Umm....Yea, I'd like that please.
A free '10k over' speeding voucher for every 3 courtesy driving that I do?
:sunny:
I'd really really like that......

That really ticks me off.

Yes, I understand the whole random licence check thing, had that happen a couple of times on the bike (never in the car - I probably look too likely to be law-abiding when I'm tootling around in a Camry with toddlers a-screamin' away in the back seat). And that's fine. Gotta be done.

But I'd be absolutely SPITTING if a cop pulled me over, just to tell me I did something right. The utter condescending cheek of it! And if he *then* used the opportunity to check out my licence while I waited, fuming, for him to finish faffing around on the radio, well, I'd go all Lou G and start vomiting letters to all and sundry, I think. Why the FECK should the best drivers be the ones most likely to get inconvenienced by roadside checks?

I think its kinda cool that they will do this to compliment you and would be ok if, like spudchucka kind of illuded to, they gave you somehting, maybe a fuel voucher or something I don't know really.

Does seem like a waste of time given the fact there are still plenty of people breaking the law out there, would be different if there was no crime to fight and they did this. Although this could be a good thing for KBers, maybe they can get away with breaking the law more often because the cops won't be on the look out for crazy drivers/riders, just the good ones :D

OK. I would refrain from complaining if they gave me a $70 voucher to fill the Camry up with.

Otherwise, they can shove their commendation up their fuzzy behinds.

I agree with you guys, It's only fair that we should be rewarded for driving well. Maybe get some de-merit point credits on our licences in order for us to safely speed at a later date. Or maybe give me back the $$$'s spent on speeding tickets during the last twelve months. No seriously - otherwise I will continue to speed and frighten old ladies - honest - just ask my mum - I'm nuts I am.

I reckon there should be a green strobe light (or a signal that is different) that should be turned on for you if you are driving well. That is, if it is their wish to acknowledge good driving/riding. Rather than trying to scare people by turning on the good ol blue and red lights.

I know a few people who'd chop down a few gears and gun it instantly if they see the disco lights being turned on for em.

I appreciate the intent, but if they pull you over isn't that just one less vehicle that could be pulled over for doing something wrong.

Now if they had honeys in bikini's............ :msn-wink: would I mind, probably not :bleh:

I just had to reply to this one...

Haven't the cops got better things to do than pull people over for good driving?

Grrrrrr.

Hang on...it's time for a little face ..........

Happy for them to send me a letter telling me what a wonderful driver/rider I am but dambed if I'm gonna stand on the side of the road looking like a crim to all the passing traffic!

Like they're gonna stop me anyway though...I need to put this into context. Haven't been pulled over for bad riding for ages so the chances I'll get pulled over for good riding are slim to none.

Shit...Just jinxed myself...expect a post about being pulled over.:wait:

I do not have the time when travelling on the road for some police officer to delay me in 'my life' so that he can give himself some warm fuzzys at my expense. What many police offircers do not realise is that they are our servants and not the other way around. This is either PR bull shit or a random stopping policy and the police not having the balls to say this.

I have two questions;
Are only the gold standard cops qualified to judge driving behaviour.
And, if you're stopped for being a good boy/girl, will you be immune from tickets for expired WOF's, rego' etc?

I'd be more interested if it counted towards their quota. Isn't it an hourly one? I could deal with it if it meant less tickets were being handed out.

FYI - the (nonexistent  ) quota states that 50% of speeding tickets must be for minimal exceedence of the 109km tolerance. Ergo your chances are halved of being pinched for maximal exceedence of same. Just call me Professor of Logic :killingme
