Right, currently running a set of Pilot Powers - great tyres but alas my commuting had ruined them. Now coming up to winter I doubt I'll be doing anything but (communting) so I need a nice hard set of tyres that will last.

I travel 130-140kms a day (Gore - Invercargill and back) and got ~6000km out of the PP rear, but really want something that'll get 15000 or more. Don't give 2 fucks about how well they handle as there is only 6 corners (give or take).

Anyway rang a few bike shops down here and this is the list they've come up with.

Pirelli - Diablo Strada
Michelin - Pilot Road2
Metzeler - MEZ4
Metzeler - Roadtec Z6
Dunlop - Roadsmart

Any thoughts on which will get the most mileage?

Cheers.

BTW fucking cold down here....:cold:

You forgot the Avon Storms, which I would recommend. I have a Storm on the rear that's done 10,000+ and is showing hardly any wear.

The plus side is, they have amazing wet and icy weather grip. Arguably better than any other tyre you list there. I have fantastic grip on the same roads that this time of year last year I was getting rear wheelspin on with the Z6.

I will ring around and see if anyone down here stocks/sells them....

The jury's out at the moment with regards to whether Avon Storms are better, worse or about the same as Michelin Pilot Road 2s. All agree, however, that those two tyres are head and shoulders above all other 'sport touring' brands.

I have PR2s on my GSX1400 at the moment, and they're just swell.

Once the front's worn out, I shall put a set of Storms on and give them a good old nana-ing in my usual inimitable style.

I shall then post The Definitive KB PR2/Storm Comparison Thread, after which everybody shall be forced to abide by my opinion or be subjected to showers of monkey poo.

Storms FTW.

Ah, but you haven't tried PR2s and Storms back to back on the same bike, have you?

Yeah it's getting a tad chilli down here atm, yesterday was a -3deg frost and foggy, by the time I left Gore my visor had frozen up and I was having trouble wiping it with my gloves! By the time I got to work I had ice all over the top half of my jacket and on my boots.... burrr.
Heated hand-grips coming next week...

Sigh. You told me that a while ago, didn't you?

I stand corrected; my sentience wanes as my senescence waxes.

Hmmm, Motosouth down here have a deal on at the moment through VoucherMate (http://www.vouchermate.co.nz/public/?ss=motosouth) which is buy the rear get the front 1/2 price, but only on a set of Pirelli's.
Is it worth me getting this deal (saving of $121) or would it still be better to get one of the above 2???

For me, saving $120 wouldn't be worth having to ride 10,000km on something other than the tyres I wanted.

YMMV, etc.

Yeah, heated grips FTW. :2thumbsup
I used mine this morning (yeah - I know: bloody wimp, pussy, etc.)
But it was 10 degrees out, and my first ride in a few weeks.
It was most enjoyable, despite worrying about my expired WOF.
