Got one on the rear of the gixer, its great but looking for something a wee bit stickier on the front...I'm assuming its still the SC1 compound of the Pirelli Supercorsa that's still top dog?
Oh and its gotta be road legal too......

I run M3's on my gixer1000 during winter - sport tires are really great when its hot and dry. I've developed a fascination with Conti Attacks recently, they're stickier than the M3's, but only when they're hot (you can loose the heat at the speed limit on a long straight, on a cold day).
Diablos have a good rep too.
How hard do you ride?

How hard do you ride?
Too hard probably....have to remember I'm on the gixer and not the motard...hence why I need something sticky so it doesn't feel too vague when lean't over. I figured the M3 was probably the best bet but its been a while since I last looked at what was available so thought I'd check the vast knowledge base that is the KB forum...
And obviously provoke the comedy responses.....thanks Usarka

i also highsided due to having a SHIT tyre on... or perhaps it was the cold roads? or perhaps it was the shit rider...
go figure
and sticky tyres are useles if you dont get them warm,
just get a m3 front for winter.

Chrislost knows what he's talking about (you'd hope so given where he works).
M3s are the go for winter. Pilot Powers are your other option. They have a slightly higher absolute grip level, but I prefer the feel of the M3s.
You won't get anything that'll stick better without putting tyre warmers on it before you take it out. And it'd lose its heat 10 minutes into your ride anyway.
M3s and Pilot Powers are designed to heat up quickly and stick to cold wet surfaces as well as reasonably possible while still lasting a decent few thousand kilometres.
You won't find better winter tyres for the road.
Chuck the gooey race tyres of your choice back on for summer, of course. Conti Race Attacks, Pirelli Super Corsas, Michelin Pilot Races and Bridgestone BT002s are your options (make sure you get the 190/55 rear profile - it's scrumptious). All of them will end up sticking worse than M3s over winter, though.
I rode the R1 a few hundred km in the rain on Sunday on Super Corsas. They were horrid. Fishtailing on a steady throttle in a straight line for no particular reason really isn't much fun.

I highsided in the wet on M3s last winter... I'm pretty sure that was the shit rider.

You cant beat the M3s. Ive run pilots and would choose a m3 any day, not to mention i got way more kms out of the sportecs. Even now that ive toned down to the hornet once the pilots that came with them are done they will be replaced by the mighty Metzler

I can't get over how sticky the M3s are on my 600.
Even when new and straight off the rack they worked perfectly, and in the wet, no slippage or sliding, pure grip.

Thanks for all the info, I think I'll go with the M3 for the winter sounds like the best compromise....might try the conti's once the sun comes back...
