Some of the biggest names in guitar playing will be descending on New Plymouth for New Zealand's first international guitar festival G-TARanaki from 14-19 July 2008.
Guitar hero Joe Satriani will head an all-star lineup in the six-day celebration of all genres of guitar playing that will include workshops, forums, concerts, and jam sessions that everyday New Zealanders can take part in.
The event will also showcase other legendary axemen including Glenn Hughes, former frontman of Black Sabbath and Deep Purple, Uli Jon Roth, Guns and Roses' Gilby Clarke, Tim Donahue, and the Alex Skolnick Trio.
Aimed at providing a learning experience like no other, G-TARanaki will move beyond concert venues and out into local schools for Sky Academy workshops in Opunake, Inglewood, and Waitara.
"G-TARanaki will be unlike any concert or series of concerts ever seen in New Zealand. This will not be a case of the artists coming in, playing a concert, and leaving again."
Tickets available from Ticketek now.

Who listens to nerds posting from Russel Crowe movies?
Sounds like a cool thing. Satriani would be worth the ride down.

Yeah he would be worth the price of admission alone let alone the rest of them. Ive seen Living Colour live at the Town Hall in Aucka loffa many moons ago, Vernon Reid is a fricken amazing guitarist. The best ive seen live was easily Eddie Van Halen at the North Shore events centre (back in bout 95 I think), the actual concert was pretty average (the venue & crowd a bit crap). The opening act were some very early 20's something rock band, very good guitarist's, fully showing off as much "spunk" as possible, very talented blah blah blah. Then Eddie steps up to the plate, the difference 30 years of experience was astonishing to witness, simply out of this world

I asked Erik Buell who was the coolest he's jammed with.
'Satriani was pretty cool.'

Allow Mr Namedrop to explain: There is a photo of me on the wall at the factory, I wrote a few pages and have half a dozen pics in the official '25 years of Buell' book.
(I went to the 1125r launch last month.)

I loved Living Color till I saw them live at Brixton Academy. Whoever was doing the mixing knew nothing about it and it was one of the crappest concerts I've been to. Van halen was awesome as was Steve Vai[Too loud! Powerstation] Santana was cool too. Would love to see Satch on stage tho!

You need a sedative. Besides, capitalism is the opposite of hippyism Mr Basher.
You need to define your stance.
Motorcycles and guitars go together naturally.
I'm glad I heard about it.

Cheers for the support guys, I am regular reader of these forums, especially after the Motorhead gig. It's not like I am posting in the forums to do with biking, I have posted in the forum for all things non-biking related, so I don't see the problem

Just a polite note..
Under the new spam laws you cannot email people unless they have actively submitted their own details. Emailing Adding them to a mailing list having gleaned their details from a mate who entered them is not allowed - regardless of having the unsubscribe feature.
I'm not trying to cause problems or be a smart ass - but being a NZ based event; emailing NZ based people you really run the risk of someone complaining - and it would be terrible to see a new (and exciting) event like this fall foul of legislation and you guys coping a fine.
I wish you all the best for your event - I'm sure it will be a great one.

Just realised that the date for this event is the 15-19th of July - not the 25-26th of May as I somehow had gotten into my head...
Anyone contemplating going there?
